SAG -Chapter 174 The Third Child of the Huo Family

Starting as a Grandfather6 min read174 of 196

After arriving at the hospital and finding the correct ward, Zhao Jingyu discovered that everyone from the Huo family had come—except for the third child, who was overseas, and Huo Jiaxiong, who was still at the company.

The sight left her stunned.

Since when had the Huo family cared so much about Huo Zhiyuan?

Ignoring them, Zhao Jingyu went straight to Huo Zhiyuan’s private physician.

“Doctor Ma, what happened to President Huo?”

Doctor Ma looked slightly uncomfortable upon seeing her, though he quickly composed himself.

“I’m not entirely sure myself,” he said. “This morning, I came as usual to conduct her regular checkup. She mentioned feeling dizzy, and then suddenly lost consciousness during the examination. My preliminary guess is that long-term malnutrition is to blame.”

He paused before adding,

“By the way, Aunt Wang should know more about her daily condition. She’s responsible for President Huo’s meals and daily care.”

Aunt Wang was Huo Zhiyuan’s housekeeper. She had accompanied Huo Zhiyuan in the ambulance and remained at the hospital because the doctors needed information about her routine.

“Aunt Wang, please tell me what happened,” Zhao Jingyu asked, suppressing the anxiety in her heart.

The older woman looked completely at a loss.

“Assistant Zhao, I really don’t know. When she got up this morning, President Huo said she felt a little dizzy. Then, during Doctor Ma’s examination, she suddenly fainted.”

Seeing her bewildered state, Zhao Jingyu knew there was no point in pressing further.

At that moment, Huo Li approached.

“Ahem, Assistant Zhao, how are things at the company? Has Fang Hua signed the contract yet?”

Zhao Jingyu frowned.

At a time like this, he was still worried about company business?

“I’m sorry. Since President Huo wasn’t present, the signing ceremony has been postponed,” she replied, forcing herself to remain calm.

Huo Li immediately objected.

“How can that be? This is a brand-new project that my second sister worked so hard to build. Assistant Zhao, you should return and finish the signing. We, her family, are here looking after her. I’m sure she’ll recover soon.”

Zhao Jingyu merely looked at him in silence.

She neither responded nor left.

Huo Li’s expression darkened at being so thoroughly ignored.

Just then, a doctor emerged from the ward.

Zhao Jingyu hurried over.

“Doctor, how is she? What exactly happened to President Huo?”

The doctor removed his gloves as he spoke.

“The patient has fallen into a coma. We still haven’t determined the exact cause, but it doesn’t look like she’ll regain consciousness anytime soon. We’ll need to continue observing her condition.”

Zhao Jingyu immediately panicked.

“How could she be in a coma? She was perfectly fine before! Are you sure your examination was thorough?”

“Please calm down, miss. Although the patient is unconscious, based on current observations, her life is not in danger.”

Hearing that there was no immediate threat to Huo Zhiyuan’s life, Zhao Jingyu finally relaxed a little.

What she failed to notice, however, was the unmistakable delight in the eyes of Sun Guilan and the others standing behind her.

Had she seen it, she would have immediately suspected that the Huo family had something to do with all this.

Huo Li, meanwhile, struggled to suppress his overwhelming joy.

His objective had been achieved.

A coma was not death.

Even brain death was not fully recognized as legal death under current Chinese law.

As long as Huo Zhiyuan did not truly die, her will would never take effect.

“Family members, please come with me,” the doctor said. “I need to understand the patient’s detailed medical history.”

“I’m her mother,” Sun Guilan hurriedly stepped forward. “You can speak with me.”

The doctor led her toward his office.

When Zhao Jingyu attempted to follow, he stopped her.

“Those who are not immediate family members, please wait outside. The patient’s specific condition can only be discussed with relatives.”

Left alone in the corridor, Zhao Jingyu tried peering through the small window of the hospital room.

But she could see nothing.

Although she still had no idea what exactly had happened, the unease in her heart only grew stronger.

In the end, Zhao Jingyu did not remain at the hospital.

There was nothing she could do there.

She wasn’t family.

She didn’t even have the right to see Huo Zhiyuan.

Before she left, Huo Li stopped her.

“Assistant Zhao, I hope you’ll keep my second sister’s condition confidential. If news of her coma gets out, the impact on the company will be enormous. Besides, I’m sure she’ll wake up soon.”

Zhao Jingyu said nothing.

Yet she had to admit that he was right.

The news absolutely could not spread.

Otherwise, chaos would erupt within the company, not to mention the outside world.

Returning to Kangshilan, Zhao Jingyu thought carefully before calling Zhang Siyan and Meng Zixuan to her office.

At this point, they were the only people she felt she could trust.

Zhang Siyan had been personally chosen by Huo Zhiyuan as the future successor.

Meng Zixuan, meanwhile, could be trusted because of the Meng family’s standing.

“Assistant Zhao, what did you need us for?” Zhang Siyan asked.

The moment they entered and saw Zhao Jingyu’s grave expression, both women became confused.

Taking a deep breath, Zhao Jingyu spoke.

“President Huo has fallen into a coma. She’s currently in the hospital.”

“What?!”

Meng Zixuan cried out in shock.

“How could Aunt Huo be in a coma? She was perfectly fine yesterday!”

Zhang Siyan also found it impossible to believe.

“It’s true,” Zhao Jingyu said quietly.

“I just came back from the hospital. I called you here because, within this company, the people President Huo trusted most were the two of you.”

That statement only confused Zhang Siyan further.

Trusted her the most?

She hadn’t even worked at the company for six months.

Yet, thinking back on everything Huo Zhiyuan had done for her, perhaps there really was no other explanation.

“What should we do now?” Meng Zixuan asked anxiously.

“For the moment, keep this strictly confidential. We’ll wait until President Huo wakes up.”

She turned to Zhang Siyan.

“And one more thing. Please speak with Mr. Fang and postpone the signing ceremony. Remember this clearly: as long as President Huo remains unconscious, you are not to sign that contract.”

Though she didn’t understand the reason, Zhang Siyan nodded obediently.

Under the circumstances, she was utterly at a loss and could only follow Zhao Jingyu’s arrangements.

The reason for Zhao Jingyu’s decision was simple:

The Fang Hua endorsement contract was Zhang Siyan’s greatest leverage.

As long as Fang Hua remained unsigned, and as long as the company still wanted him as its spokesperson, Zhang Siyan’s position would remain unshakable.

“Assistant Zhao, can we go visit President Huo?” Meng Zixuan asked.

Zhao Jingyu sighed.

“We can’t. Only family members are allowed to visit right now. Even if we go, we’ll only be waiting outside.”

“Family members…”

She suddenly froze.

“The third child of the Huo family?”

A thought abruptly flashed through her mind.
