SFTD -Chapter 333 Missing Memories (Part 25)

Speaking for the Dead7 min read334 of 429

Wang Xuchao slowly closed his eyes, trying to relieve the dizziness and discomfort caused by the tremor in his vision. Thinking of Zhou Hai who had been running around for him these past days, and thinking of his family and children, Wang Xuchao bit down hard on the tip of his tongue.

The sharp pain made his whole body twitch. A strong metallic taste filled his mouth, and his mind seemed to clear up a little.

Wang Xuchao understood that Qin Tianhe wanted him dead. Wang Pei must have already been controlled or killed by him, and he himself was now the prime suspect. If he died, many clues would be cut off. So at this moment, the person with the least excuse to give up was himself.

He remembered Zhou Hai once saying that no matter how strong a psychoactive drug was, as long as your willpower was strong enough, it could not control you. Wang Xuchao bit his tongue again with force, and the clarity intensified even more.

He reached into his pants pocket and rummaged around. He was currently suspended from duty, so he had no firearm on him and nothing that could be used as a weapon. He slowly opened his eyes a little—Qin Tianhe was still not back in the room.

Trembling, Wang Xuchao reached out and grabbed the metal spoon in the coffee cup, clenching it tightly in his palm. The action made his dizziness worse, but he forced himself to endure it. With his other hand, he picked up the coffee cup and poured its contents into Qin Tianhe’s cup.

It seemed Qin Tianhe heard the sound—or perhaps he had just finished his call—and slowly walked back.

Without the baseball cap and sunglasses, Qin Tianhe’s cold smile and murderous gaze were clearly visible. He dragged a large black bag over and placed it beside the sofa, then unzipped it.

A human face appeared.

The person’s mouth was sealed with tape, and her hands and feet were tightly bound. She stared in panic at Qin Tianhe, then at Wang Xuchao, who was slumped motionless on the sofa, making muffled “wu wu” sounds through the tape.

Qin Tianhe gently stroked her hair, a tender smile on his face. He pointed at Wang Xuchao on the sofa and said:

“I invited your classmate over. Since he’s here, I won’t bother with a video call anymore. Otherwise, I even wanted Yu Xiuli to see your final moments.”

“If she found out that her best classmate and closest friend was actually her love rival—and even willingly climbed into her bed—what do you think she would do?”

“I think she’d want to kill you even more than I do. And this classmate of yours, Wang Xuchao—he’s extremely loyal to Yu Xiuhong. You know that better than anyone. Since you like that man so much, go and accompany him properly!”

With that, he tore off the tape from Wang Pei’s mouth. The force of it ripped strands of her hair out.

Qin Tianhe stood up, walked to the window, and fully opened the outward-swinging window.

He held the strip of tape with strands of hair stuck to it and let go. It fluttered downward, twisting in the air due to its adhesive side, swaying left and right as it fell.

Qin Tianhe turned back with a smile. Wang Pei was already in tears.

She struggled, but her entire body was bound like a zongzi. She tried to call for help, but on the 27th floor, only the three of them were present.

Across from her sat Wang Xuchao, clearly already drugged unconscious. Wang Pei’s heart was filled with regret—she truly should not have helped Qin Tianhe or acted as his alibi witness.

“Qin Tianhe, please let me go!”

“What happened between Wang Shouxin and me… it was just an accident…”

Qin Tianhe made a “shh” gesture with his finger, then walked over and pushed the trolley under the bag, positioning Wang Pei under the window. A trace of excitement appeared on his face.

“First enjoy the view. I’ll bring Wang Xuchao over to keep you company. This time, I plan to throw both of you out of here. Pretty good plan, right?”

“No chance of reversal at all. Bang—you’ll smash into pulp. I imagine your bodies will turn into minced flesh. All traces and evidence will be impossible to find. Hahaha!”

“I’m truly a genius, aren’t I?”

He took out a box from beside the bag and placed it on the floor. Inside were two syringes filled with liquid.

He pulled one out, grabbed Wang Pei’s hand, and twisted it forcefully. Wang Pei’s body tilted to one side as he lifted her clothes and stabbed the needle into the gap at her waist.

She struggled continuously, but her body was completely bound like a zongzi—she could only endure it helplessly.

“Ah—!”

With a scream, the liquid rapidly entered her body. Qin Tianhe looked into her eyes and slowly shook his head, the smile at the corners of his eyes deepening.

“Don’t worry, Xiaopei. It’s not poison—just a super-strong anesthetic. I love you so much, how could I let you suffer? I’m giving you a lumbar block so that when you fall, your posture will be more graceful.”

Wang Pei trembled, shaking her head, and screamed hoarsely:

“You’re insane!”

“Just because of those old events, you’re going to kill Wang Shouxin and Yu Xiuhong—and now even me and Wang Xuchao!”

Qin Tianhe’s eyes widened as he grabbed her collar, his face twisting violently.

“Old events?”

“On Christmas of 2013, you said you were working overtime on a case. But I followed you and found you never went to your office—you went to Apartment 88.”

“When you were throwing yourself at Wang Shouxin, I was sitting in Spring Bud Building’s café across from Apartment 88.”

“No binoculars were needed. The lights at night were like a live broadcast.”

“I never imagined the woman I loved would be so cheap—kneeling in front of Wang Shouxin, seducing him, and then being pinned on the table like a dog and violated by him. You looked like you were enjoying it very much!”

Wang Pei stared at him.

“So this is why you killed Wang Shouxin?”

“No. And there was also the real estate case. The deposit had already been transferred to me, but he came to my door saying he wanted to take over.”

“He even said he’d compensate me with another case. Ridiculous. I need his mercy?”

“What I want, I take myself. Killing him brought the real estate case back to me. And I still won. That’s my ability!”

Wang Pei looked at the increasingly insane Qin Tianhe and tried to reason with him.

“Tianhe… if you couldn’t accept me, you could have just told me. We could have broken up. Why go this far?”

Qin Tianhe tilted his head, staring at her in disbelief.

“Why would I give you up?”

“You are mine—life or death!”

“Wang Shouxin too. If I want something, I take it. I don’t need anyone’s charity.”

He pulled out a blade and slashed it across Wang Pei’s bindings. The tape snapped, and her hands and feet were freed—but the anesthetic had already taken effect, and she collapsed limply to the floor under the window.

Qin Tianhe walked over to Wang Xuchao. Wang Pei kept shouting:

“Wang Xuchao, wake up!”

“Wake up!”

But Wang Xuchao showed no reaction, as Qin Tianhe dragged him by the legs.

Qin Tianhe looked very satisfied and glanced at Wang Pei with a mocking expression.

“Shout louder!”

“So this guy is really like a stubborn donkey. Even after the cigarette I laced with drugs last time, he still didn’t go down completely.”

“That day, just after I killed Yu Xiuhong, he woke up and staggered after me. I panicked and pushed him down before escaping over the wall—and even got cut.”

“Seeing how carefully you all examined the perimeter scene, I figured you’d soon find my blood.”

“So I had to confuse the investigation. Killing both of you would divert attention and give me a chance to escape. Tonight I’ll be flying to Italy. Don’t worry, I’ll remember you.”

As he spoke, Qin Tianhe dragged Wang Xuchao to the window. Wang Pei and Wang Xuchao lay side by side on the floor.

He kicked away the syringe box and opened his arms toward Wang Pei with a grin.

“Alright, my dear, it’s time to fly!”

“Don’t worry, you won’t be alone. Soon I’ll send Wang Xuchao to keep you company.”

“Close your eyes and enjoy it!”
