SFTD -Chapter 332 Missing Memory (Part 24)

Speaking for the Dead6 min read333 of 429

“Hello, Haizi, what’s wrong?”

Zhou Hai snapped back to his senses and quickly ran out of the villa, saying as he moved:

“Wang Pei just sent Wang Xuchao a WeChat message. She said there were some details she forgot to mention and wanted him to come over to talk. More than ten minutes ago, Wang Xuchao already went to Wang Pei’s law firm. Take people over there and check it out. I’m heading there too—I have a bad feeling about this!”

Huang Zhongsheng’s expression tightened. “Don’t worry, I’ll take people there right now. I know the address.”

After hanging up, Zhou Hai immediately tried calling Wang Xuchao again, but there was still no answer. His anxiety deepened, and he called Xiao Hu again.

“Check Wang Xuchao’s phone location now. I want the exact position. Send real-time tracking to both me and Huang Zhongsheng.”

With that, he had already reached the car. He yanked the steering wheel hard and sped off, leaving the forensic team behind in a stunned silence.

The car raced forward. Zhou Hai’s phone rang again—this time it was Xu Biao.

He answered on speaker immediately. Xu Biao’s voice was urgent:

“Haizi, the lab results are out. We’ve identified the blood on the nail. The owner is Qin Tianhe—Wang Pei’s fiancé!”

Five minutes earlier

Wang Xuchao drove into the underground parking lot of Ginza Tower. It was very close to the Golden Coast, but this was the financial district, and the above-ground parking lot was full, so he had no choice but to go down to Level B1.

After finally finding a parking space, he parked the car and headed toward the elevator at Passage C. Just as he was about to wait, he suddenly heard a sound behind him.

He turned around and saw a figure wearing a baseball cap and sunglasses that looked vaguely familiar.

The man was pulling a flat trolley carrying a long, heavy black bag.

When the man looked up, Wang Xuchao immediately recognized him and greeted him:

“Oh? Lawyer Qin, what are you doing here?”

The man seemed a little surprised. He pushed up his glasses, smiled politely, and nodded. He raised a hand as if to shake hands, but then noticed the gloves on his hands and shrugged instead.

“Wearing gloves makes it inconvenient to shake hands. I’m delivering some things for Xiaopei. What about you?”

Wang Xuchao nodded and pressed the elevator button. The indicator light flickered weakly; he pressed it harder until it finally lit up. After a moment, the display changed as the elevator descended to B1.

The doors opened. Wang Xuchao held them for him, noticing the large bag looked heavy, and helped pull it slightly.

They entered together. Since both were heading to see Wang Pei, Wang Xuchao directly pressed the 27th floor.

Smiling, he said, “I almost didn’t recognize you in the dim light, Lawyer Qin. When are you two getting married?”

Qin Tianhe paused slightly, then smiled.

“Soon. Her office just moved here, things were rushed, nothing is fully set up yet. Let’s wait two more months. We’re tentatively planning for October 1st.”

Wang Xuchao nodded. “Wang Pei is probably the most ‘late marriage and late childbirth’ among our classmates. You’re not young anymore—time to settle down. Work shouldn’t always come first.”

Qin Tianhe smiled but said nothing, because the elevator had already reached the 27th floor.

With a ding, the doors opened. Wang Xuchao helped pull the bag out and looked around, slightly disoriented—he always felt a bit lost in circular buildings.

Qin Tianhe pointed to a row of glass rooms on the left.

“That way. C Zone, 27th floor—that’s Xiaopei’s law firm. The rest is still under design. Come on, this way.”

Wang Xuchao walked ahead, dragging the bag while Qin Tianhe followed behind.

After turning the corner, the law firm finally came into view. The corridor lighting was dim—understandable, since the building was not fully completed and the surveillance and lighting systems were likely not fully installed.

Qin Tianhe loosened his grip on the bag. If Wang Xuchao had turned back at that moment, he would have noticed the black leather bag twitch slightly.

Qin Tianhe took out a set of keys, then called out to Wang Xuchao again:

“Team Wang, I can’t let go of it—it might fall and break. Could you help open the door? Xiaopei went to court with her assistant, and no one else has moved in yet.”

Wang Xuchao took the keys without hesitation.

“No problem, I’ll help you.”

He walked to the glass doors, unlocked the cross lock, and pushed the double doors open. He then turned back to help Qin Tianhe carry the bag inside.

The law firm was already fully renovated, though empty and lacking any sense of life.

They placed the bag against the reception counter. Qin Tianhe took off his hat and gestured for Wang Xuchao to follow him into the lounge area. He turned on the air conditioner, and cool air filled the room, easing their fatigue.

“Team Wang, have a seat. This case will be over soon. I’ll get you some coffee.”

Wang Xuchao smiled and sat down, looking around. He had been here before—the previous office was cramped and old, but this one was a clear upgrade.

Soon, Qin Tianhe returned with coffee. A rich aroma filled the air.

“Smells pretty good,” Wang Xuchao said.

Qin Tianhe personally added milk to his cup.

“This coffee was given to me by a real estate tycoon. Try it—no worse than kopi luwak.”

Wang Xuchao stirred it and took a sip after Qin Tianhe also drank his own. The rich aroma spread instantly through his mouth.

At that moment, Qin Tianhe’s lips curved into a faint, almost imperceptible smile.

Wang Xuchao noticed it and felt a strange sense of familiarity.

Qin Tianhe removed his hat and sunglasses and said:

“I heard you’ve been listed as a suspect in the Yu Xiuhong case. How’s the investigation going?”

Wang Xuchao smiled awkwardly. “I’m currently suspended pending investigation, so I can’t discuss the case. Sorry.”

“It’s fine, just casual talk.”

Qin Tianhe shrugged.

“I heard from Xiaopei that Yu Xiuli is getting married tomorrow. Kind of ironic. They’ll probably come back after the wedding.”

At that moment, Qin Tianhe’s phone rang. He gestured apologetically and walked out.

Wang Xuchao nodded and set down his cup. As Qin Tianhe turned away, his figure suddenly overlapped with someone in Wang Xuchao’s memory. He tried to call out, but his vision blurred.

His sight doubled. A buzzing sound filled his ears.

He immediately thought of the same symptoms from the night of the 22nd at the Old Soldier KTV.

He quickly took out his phone, shaking his head hard. After several attempts, he finally unlocked it with his fingerprint.

Though his vision was blurry, he understood instantly—

He had been drugged again.

And it was the same substance as last time.

But this time, the effect was far stronger.

His heart sank completely.

It seemed… there was no escaping today’s fate.
