RMM – Chapter 41 False Accusations

Su Ruo didn’t comment when she heard his words, nor did she get angry. Instead, she smiled lightly and said, “You flatter me. May I ask who you are?”

The man who had just been smiling froze at her question. Hearing Lu Yue’s unrestrained laughter behind Su Ruo, his face twitched several times before he replied, “My surname is Liu. I’m the chief of this station.”

His tone could barely conceal his arrogance.

Su Ruo and the others struggled to suppress their laughter. Even though they didn’t laugh out loud, it was hard to keep straight faces. Just a lowly station chief, yet so brazen and shameless, abusing his power so blatantly.

“Well then, Chief Liu, please explain why you took away one of my people,” Su Ruo went straight to the point, unwilling to waste time.

“Why? Didn’t you figure it out before coming here? Mu You is suspected of drug trafficking and harming innocent civilians. That is an unforgivable crime. Of course we are enforcing the law impartially,” Chief Liu replied righteously.

“Then may I ask, since Mu You isn’t within your jurisdiction, how did you end up enforcing the law somewhere else?”

Su Ruo smiled faintly as she asked.

“As police officers, it’s our duty to protect the people. If there’s crime, we are duty-bound to respond. What’s the point of talking about jurisdiction? Turning a blind eye to wrongdoing is something we despise,” a young officer behind Chief Liu interjected, while Liu nodded solemnly, as if what he said made complete sense.

“We don’t care about how much your station loves to be righteous heroes. But the moment something happened at Mu You, your officers immediately came knocking, arresting people without investigating the facts. Isn’t that suspicious? And arbitrarily labeling innocent people as suspects—since when is that part of a police officer’s job?” Su Ruo remained unfazed, her voice sharp and firm.

Chief Liu’s face darkened immediately, clearly displeased. “We have our reasons for our actions. We were responding to a report when we went to Mu You. What’s more, we caught them red-handed! Many customers are our witnesses. After inspection, several individuals tested positive for drugs—some were even in life-threatening condition! The evidence is irrefutable, so don’t waste time quibbling!”

“Evidence? You’re saying a few people’s statements are enough to close a case? Has this been thoroughly investigated?” He Wen stepped forward, challenging him sharply.

Seeing their aggressive stance and confident demeanor, Chief Liu began to feel a little uneasy. Though he was sure they couldn’t turn things around, guilt still gnawed at him—after all, they had framed someone.

“Enough! What kind of behavior is this—causing a disturbance in a police station?” Chief Liu scolded with a frown.

“Please calm down, Chief Liu. We came here today precisely because of this matter. After all, we are involved in the case, and we have the right to know the facts. Wouldn’t that help clarify the truth? Surely you wouldn’t object to something that benefits the investigation?” Su Ruo tugged at He Wen, who was about to argue again, and silently gestured to Lu Yue to stay quiet as well. After all, aside from family, who else had ever dared yell at them like this?

“What else is there to investigate? Isn’t the truth already clear? Caught red-handed—Mu You still wants to deny it?” Chief Liu sneered, clearly unrepentant. He had intended to use this opportunity to crush Mu You’s arrogance and ideally ruin it completely—only then would Young Master Shi be satisfied.

Who knew what Mu You had done to offend Young Master Shi for him to go to such lengths?

“If Chief Liu insists on handling the case this way, then we don’t mind filing a lawsuit to protect our rights through legal means,” Su Ruo said with a faint, mocking smile. So they really wanted to go head-to-head with her?

At that, Chief Liu and the others completely changed their expressions. They hadn’t expected this young woman to be so hard to deal with.

“Heh, youngsters are always rash and don’t stop until they hit a wall. Fine then, no harm in letting you see the evidence. Come on,” Chief Liu said with a fake smile.

Meanwhile, Su Heng was in class when his phone suddenly rang. It was from a friend he barely knew—someone he only had lukewarm relations with—so he was surprised to see the call.

He glanced at the professor on the podium, who was talking over the noisy classroom. No one would notice if he took the call.

“Hello? What’s up? I’m in class.”

“You’re still in class? Something happened to Mu You. The police already took people away.”

Su Heng frowned, not quite grasping what the caller meant.

“Today’s not April Fool’s Day. What nonsense are you talking about?”

“I knew you wouldn’t believe me. If my friend hadn’t seen it firsthand, I wouldn’t either. Anyway, just call your sister and ask.”

“Alright, I’ll check. Bye.” Su Heng sounded tense and hung up before the caller could respond.

“Hello? Sis, where are you?”

“Oh, nowhere special. Aren’t you in class?” Su Ruo frowned slightly and gave a silent gesture to those around her not to speak. There was no way to hide this from Su Heng forever, but there was no need for him to worry just yet.

“Don’t lie to me, sis. Something happened to Mu You, didn’t it?”

“Yes, but it’s not serious. Don’t worry. Go back to class,” Su Ruo replied casually, though she was a bit surprised at how fast the news had spread.

“Stop lying. Tell me where you are right now.”

But the next second, Su Heng couldn’t stay calm anymore. He didn’t care that he was still in class—he shouted, “The police station? What are you doing at the police station?”

“I’m coming over now. Wait for me.” He didn’t even bother notifying the professor. Grabbing his car keys, he slipped out through the back door.

By the time Su Heng reached the station, Su Ruo and the others had just come out, with Yang Yu and his group following behind.

“Sis, what happened? What’s going on?” Su Heng rushed up the moment he got out of the car.

“It’s fine. We were framed. Someone spiked the drinks at Mu You with drugs,” Su Ruo replied calmly. With only a few witness statements, there was no way to convict Mu You. After some negotiations, they managed to bail Yang Yu and the others out, at least to keep them from being targeted any further. Now, the priority was to find proof of Mu You’s innocence. Otherwise, judging by Chief Liu’s arrogant attitude, he might show up again tomorrow to arrest more people.

“What?! Who did this?” Su Heng’s voice rose sharply.

“Who knows. Whoever it was, they’re vile. Come on, let’s go back to Mu You.”

With a cold snort, Su Ruo turned and headed toward the car.

Back at Mu You, the customers had already been dismissed. No one was in the mood to hang around under such circumstances. The second-floor bar had been cleared out as well. If not for the oppressive silence, you’d hardly believe something had just happened.

“Boss,” Zhang Ye stepped forward and greeted He Wen, Lu Yue, and Su Heng one by one.

“Mm. Where’s the surveillance footage from the second floor? Take us there.” Su Ruo nodded.

With a grim expression, Su Heng followed Su Ruo to the fourth-floor surveillance room, clenching his fists silently. They really had guts—daring to stir trouble on Su family turf. They’d better pray he didn’t catch them.
