“Goodbye, Dad.” The boy’s figure grew farther and farther away, finally disappearing completely into the darkness.

“No!” Ji Heguang’s eyes flew open, and he jolted upright from the bed.

“You scared me—what’s wrong? Did you have a nightmare?” Bai Wei sat up groggily, only to see her husband scramble out of bed and stumble toward the door.

“Hey! Where are you going?”

“I’m going to find Lele!”

“The child is asleep! What are you doing acting crazy?”

Ji Heguang didn’t listen. He went straight to his son’s bedroom, fumbled for the lamp at the bedside, and only when he saw his son lying quietly in bed, eyes closed in deep sleep, did he finally breathe a sigh of relief.

Wiping the cold sweat from his forehead, he silently mocked himself for treating a nightmare as reality.

From the doorway, Bai Wei peeked in and whispered reproachfully, “What’s gotten into you?”

Ji Heguang gave an embarrassed smile and whispered, “You go back to sleep. I’ll sleep with Lele tonight.”

Bai Wei rolled her eyes. “Don’t wake the child.”

The bedroom door closed without a sound— and at that very instant, a childish voice suddenly spoke:

“It’s so late, Dad. Are you looking for me?”

“Sorry, did I wake yo—” But when Ji Heguang met those gleaming golden eyes, the rest of his words lodged in his throat.

The two of them stared at each other in silence, the entire bedroom falling utterly quiet.

Finally, Ji Heguang broke the silence with a bitter laugh. “So it wasn’t a dream. Everything… was real.”

He sat beside the bed, gaze fixed on his son lying there, his eyes landing squarely on those golden pupils. “You… you’re going with them?”

Now he finally remembered clearly what had happened earlier that day.

Not long after that mysterious organization calling itself the SCP Foundation appeared, he suddenly fainted and had been unconscious until now.

Le Jing sat up, meeting his father’s eyes head-on, and asked seriously, “Dad, do you want me to stay home?”

“You’re my son.” Ji Heguang’s Adam’s apple bobbed. His voice was dry but firm. “No matter what… changes you go through, you’re still my son.”

The boy gave a small smile. The radiant golden glow in his eyes extinguished at once, returning to an ordinary black.

He said softly, “Dad, evil power is awakening, the end is coming, and this world is slowly becoming a breeding ground for an evil god.”

He reached out a warm, human hand and covered his father’s. “So three years ago, the SCP Foundation was created.”

Ji Heguang forced himself to remain calm. “What exactly is the SCP Foundation?”

Le Jing explained everything he knew.

The power of eldritch beings was awakening all over the world. Strange supernatural anomalies were appearing one after another, causing countless bloody incidents. Naturally, governments around the world noticed. They mobilized top scientists to analyze the cause and sent special forces to suppress these anomalous events.

“In Cthulhu mythos fanfiction, the SCP Foundation contains potentially threatening objects. To protect humanity, they fight unknown entities from the shadows.”

The boy paused, then solemnly recited: “We Secure. We Contain. We Protect. That is the Foundation’s creed. While containing anomalous objects, they also develop new technologies from them to strengthen human civilization.”

“The United Nations took inspiration from those stories and named the new organization for handling supernatural anomalies the SCP Foundation.”

Having seen a monster with his own eyes, Ji Heguang’s materialistic worldview had already crumbled, so he accepted his son’s explanation surprisingly well.

But something else now weighed on him: “Will they… experiment on you?”

His face went pale, lips trembling. “Will they kill you?”

“Don’t be afraid. Dad’s here, they won’t hurt you! I have money—we can run overseas—”

“Don’t worry. They won’t hurt me—in fact, they’ll protect me.” Le Jing gently patted his father’s cold hand.

“Because I was born with the power to suppress evil. During the circus incident, I was the one who subdued the monsters. The Foundation needs my power, and in return, they’ll meet all my conditions. So nothing in my life will change. I’ll just need to carry out missions occasionally.”

Ji Heguang’s expression softened slightly, though he remained worried and angry. “You’re still so young—what missions? It’s dangerous! This is child labor exploitation! Too much! Give me their director’s contact—I’m getting my lawyer!”

Le Jing couldn’t help laughing and crying at the same time. After a long struggle, he finally persuaded Ji Heguang to agree—he could occasionally go on missions, but only with a team of bodyguards.

North City Elementary School

A campus usually bustling with noise was now frozen in eerie silence.

It was as if someone had pressed the pause button.

A badminton shuttlecock lay at someone’s feet, but the student holding the racket could not move a single millimeter.

A duty student stood frozen with a trash bin.

A teacher’s pen halted halfway through grading.

A student greeting a friend had their hand suspended in midair…

“Their minds should still be conscious,” a childish voice suddenly said. “Turning into this all of a sudden must’ve scared them terribly.”

Then a calm male voice followed: “If not for your help, we would’ve been frozen too. This containment object is extremely dangerous—the Foundation will give you our full support.”

The speaker was a young, delicate-faced boy, still a little baby-fat, extraordinarily cute— as long as one ignored his eyes.

His golden pupils flowed like liquid gold, swirling with steaming, ferocious mist—proof of his inhuman nature.

The boy walked at the front. Behind him followed two neat rows of adults in black uniforms, each carrying a black case, moving with the disciplined gait of trained soldiers.

The person who spoke earlier was the team leader, walking respectfully beside the boy, his sharp gaze scanning every corner.

His name was Xie Chenqing, commander of the Mobile Task Force of the SCP Foundation’s Huaguo branch. His team handled the most dangerous anomalous containment missions.

“Don’t worry,” the boy said lightly. “I can feel it—the anomaly this time is Euclid-class. Troublesome, but containable.”

He tilted his head slightly toward a dense bush and smiled faintly. The golden mist in his eyes churned, radiating an intimidating aura. “You’ve been peeking for quite a while. Aren’t you going to say hello?”

Xie Chenqing held his breath and followed the boy’s gaze.

After a few long seconds, the bushes rustled. A broken Barbie doll dragged itself out.

One arm missing, tattered but still trying to act elegant, the doll lifted its skirt hem with one hand and curtsied politely. In a sweet young girl’s voice, it asked:

“Nice to meet you. I’m Meimei. Can you all see me?”

“Of course we can. Nice to meet you—I’m Jing.” Jing’s eyes flickered, and he placed a hand over his heart in a formal bow.

“Meimei is so pretty. Will you play with me?”

The doll’s frozen grin widened grotesquely. “Of course! As long as you keep looking at Meimei, Meimei can play with you forever!”

She emitted a high-pitched giggle and spun like a ballerina. “Am I pretty?”

“Of course. Meimei is the prettiest girl I’ve ever seen.”

Suddenly, the doll’s expression twisted into a monstrous grimace. “But THEY called me ugly! They hit me! They pushed me into the river! I screamed ‘Help me!’ for so long—but no one saw Meimei! Meimei soaked alone in the cold dark water for so long… No one came! They’re so bad—so bad!”

The information hidden in these words was enormous.

Xie Chenqing’s face tightened, and he let out a subtle sigh.

He had encountered many anomalies like Meimei— fused with an inanimate object, creating something alive. Based on what she had shown, her ability seemed to immobilize humans—and given she was a doll, she likely could transform people into puppets.

“They’re too mean. Meimei doesn’t want to play with them anymore. Will you play with me instead?” Jing extended his hand, voice carrying a strange persuasive warmth.

“At our place, lots of people will play with Meimei. You’ll have endless beautiful dresses. Everyone will love Meimei. Everyone will watch Meimei.”

The word “watch” appeared again and again.

Xie Chenqing’s heart stirred.

Could it be that only beings able to see Meimei avoid being turned into puppets? Since the students couldn’t see her, they turned into frozen dolls.

The doll stared into those blazing golden eyes for a long moment— then moved.

She hopped lightly into the boy’s palm, smiling a twisted, crazed smile.

“If you can’t keep your promise… you’ll have to stay a puppet with Meimei forever!”

“Of course. We promise.”

Jing turned and handed the doll to Xie Chenqing.

“Containment of SCP-801 — Doll ‘Meimei’ — successful. Special containment requirements: beautiful dresses… and human attention.”

Xie Chenqing accepted the doll, staring at it unblinkingly, not daring to meet the boy’s golden gaze.

“Thank you for your hard work, sir.”

“Cleanup is yours.”

The boy turned and walked slowly toward the school gate. Outside, a long Lincoln limousine was already waiting.

Xie Chenqing bowed slightly, watching the boy leave with utmost respect.

That boy was the SCP Foundation’s greatest anomaly. His identity, appearance, and abilities were classified at the highest level.

As commander of a Mobile Task Force, Xie Chenqing had near-top-level clearance. He knew many top-secret documents—

including the true identity of the Foundation’s greatest anomaly, Jing:

Founder of the SCP Foundation.
