Xie Chenqing had just returned to the SCP Foundation when he was immediately summoned by the Chairman.
“Was this mission smooth?”
“Yes. That gentleman resolved the anomalous event very quickly.”
Inside the SCP Foundation, they always used “that gentleman” as the codename for the sealed being “Jing.”
The Chairman silently nodded, lowered his eyes, and pondered for more than ten seconds before letting out a bitter smile. “…I often feel as if everything happening now is just a nightmare.”
Xie Chenqing felt the same. Who didn’t? Who could have imagined that the world would suddenly undergo such drastic changes?
The eldritch gods described in works of fiction were real. Evil forces worldwide were reviving. The world was on the verge of becoming a slaughterhouse for eldritch gods.
The SCP Foundation—an absurd organization that only existed in novels—had somehow become a real, official institution on Earth.
Xie Chenqing was one of the first to join the Foundation. Over the past three years, he had traveled across the world, carrying out all kinds of dangerous missions, witnessing countless tragedies that could easily shatter a person’s sanity.
If not for the existence of SCP-5, which could dissolve negative emotions, he would have already gone mad.
“The nightmare will end,” Xie Chenqing said firmly. “Ending it in our generation is our duty.”
The Chairman nodded, the corners of his lips lifting. “With that gentleman here, there’s no problem. After all, he is…”
The last few words were so soft they almost dissolved into the air, yet Xie Chenqing knew exactly what the Chairman was referring to.
It went without saying.
Over the past few years, Earth had become a stage for horror and madness:
Jasmine flowers opened into blood-soaked jaws and became murderous killers. Pet hamsters swelled into gigantic meat-ball monstrosities and swallowed their owners. Dolls under beds suddenly let out eerie laughter. Wardrobes turned into prisons that sealed away all invading creatures…
Every day was filled with terror, blood, and insanity—an endless assault on human sanity.
Just as the United Nations government was overwhelmed by global anomalies, that gentleman suddenly appeared—and gave them hope of defeating the supernatural.
Although he had a humanoid form, he was not human. More precisely, he was a living manifestation of humanity’s collective consciousness, condensed from all positive emotions belonging to mankind. He was the natural nemesis of eldritch gods.
He also founded the SCP Foundation, teaching them how to use sealed containment objects, how to fight unimaginable monsters and anomalies, and how to research containment objects to develop black-tech.
Under his leadership, the world government had overcome the chaos of the early days and begun dealing with anomalous events in an orderly manner.
The Chairman coughed, dragging Xie Chenqing out of his thoughts.
“It’s about time we implement the God-Creation Plan.”
Xie Chenqing froze. Of course he knew what plan the Chairman referred to. In fact, the SCP Foundation existed specifically to carry out this plan.
To gather the power of the entire world, create a god, and use humanity’s own strength to resist eldritch gods. Such an arrogant, nearly absurd plan—yet it was the only way to save Earth, to save human civilization.
When that gentleman first proposed this plan, the leaders of all nations were struck speechless.
Some of them were devout believers, yet even they felt a trembling surge of emotion deep in their souls.
If their gods truly existed and learned of this plan, they would surely descend in fury and smite these audacious humans! Mere mortals daring to covet divine power—trying to step into the realm of gods—such blasphemy should be punished with annihilation!
But—
Humans were greedy, ambitious creatures who never knew when to stop.
And the instinct to survive was universal.
Can ants defy the heavens?
“Jing” said yes.
Thus began a plan so mad it had no precedent and would have no successor. Whether it succeeded or failed, it would leave an indelible mark in the history of human civilization.
This was the brightest brilliance born from a civilization pushed to the brink—humanity’s final spear thrown at the gods enthroned above.
Not even the gods could erase this radiance. They could not force humanity to kneel.
Across the vast heavens and earth were people unwilling to be slaves.
Xie Chenqing’s heart pounded violently. His chest swelled with heroic passion, his eyes suddenly burning with tears. He took a deep breath and laughed. “Excellent. I’ve been waiting impatiently.”
Will Jones had once gone missing for a period of time.
When he reappeared, he had lost all memories of the time he was gone.
Everyone who disappeared with him had also lost their memories.
What had happened during that time? Where had they gone? Why had they lost their memories? For so many people to vanish and lose all recollection—was such a thing even possible with existing technology?
Jones had countless questions, but he was destined to never get answers.
Soon, he also had no time to ponder his missing memories.
While he had been gone, Earth had undergone earth-shattering changes—sometimes he even suspected he had traveled to a parallel world.
Though governments worked hard to conceal the changes, anyone with eyes could see something was wrong.
Over these years, Jones had escaped death multiple times, encountering various anomalies inexplicable by science—and gaining several strange items.
For example, a gun that had a 100% chance of hitting the human heart. That weapon had saved him many times.
As time passed and even ordinary civilians gradually accepted the altered world, one day all governments simultaneously held a press conference to explain what was happening on Earth.
“…After research, scientists have discovered that Cthulhu-type eldritch gods may truly exist as malevolent entities. The anomalies and horrific incidents of recent years are all influenced by their divine power…”
Jones had speculated about countless possibilities, but the truth was more terrifying than he imagined.
Cthulhu gods—unspeakable beings, unseeable deities, unimaginably powerful and nearly invincible. In fiction, humans who encountered them either died, went mad, or ended tragically.
And now such gods were awakening. Earth was approaching doomsday.
For such a ridiculous horror-movie plot to play out in real life—Jones almost wanted to laugh. Live long enough, and truly anything could happen.
“…But although the gods are powerful, they are not unbeatable. Human civilization has not reached its end—for the savior has been born…”
On the TV screen, a boy floated in the air, golden eyes blazing. His very image exuded overwhelming pressure, even through the broadcast.
Jones’ face remained expressionless, but his heart was in turmoil.
The boy’s name was Jing, born from humanity’s collective consciousness, mankind’s guide—appearing at the moment of crisis to reverse the tide and ensure civilization’s survival.
Jones finally couldn’t help it—he burst into laughter.
How similar this was to the nonsense plot of a third-rate novel.
What next? A war of the gods? It sounded like a child’s bedtime story.
As an information broker, Jones habitually viewed everything through the lens of conspiracy. He couldn’t help thinking—was this a story fabricated by the world government to calm the masses? A manufactured savior to give people hope and prevent society from collapsing.
He eyed the “Jing” on the screen with skepticism. The boy certainly possessed some special abilities, but whether he could truly be humanity’s savior…
Jones snorted and turned off the TV.
There had never been a real savior. Humans must save themselves.
“According to a spokesperson from Mr. Jing’s research division, breakthroughs have been made in studying the invisibility ability of SCP-472 Missing Clown. An invisibility potion may soon be developed…”
“The super-monster Titan Python, responsible for a hundred deaths, has been successfully contained by Mr. Jing. Researchers will now study its gene sequence to uncover the secret of its sudden gigantification…”
“Mr. Jing’s team has deciphered the genetic code of SCP-305 Nine-Tailed Gecko, uncovering the secret behind its incredible healing powers. Gene modification trials have entered clinical testing. If successful, humans may soon gain similar healing abilities…”
“Drawing inspiration from SCP-485 Slime, Mr. Jing has developed the first human-created anomalous organism—SCP-1001 Rot-Mud Monster. This creature possesses powerful softening and corrosive abilities capable of easily dissolving the armored scales of the SCP-802 Iron-Blooded Man-Eating Lion…”
Jones stared at the pile of intelligence reports on “Jing.” His mouth twitched. His heart crumbled little by little.
He was wrong. Completely wrong.
He had thought Jing was just a fraud created by the UN to fool the masses. But no—this kid was playing the role of a biotech black-technology scientist!
A decade ago, scientists predicted that the 21st century would belong to biology—that biologists would decode genetic mysteries and cure countless ailments for the good of humanity.
The dream was glorious, but reality was brutal.
Most biology graduates eventually moved to pharmaceutical companies to make a living. Gene decoding required enormous investment and might never yield results. People simply needed to survive.
But now, in this twisted world of madness, Jing and his team seemed ready to unleash a true biological revolution.
What would the future look like?
Universal evolution?
The thought alone made Jones tremble with anticipation.
He never imagined that at his age, he might still become a superhuman. Thinking this way, the future suddenly felt full of hope.
The eldritch gods were powerful—but not invincible.
