Lu Family Compound
Gu Yihan had no idea about the dispute between Li Yajing and the Chang family over her job.
After dinner, she urged Haohua to hurry up, wash up, and go to bed.
When she returned to the bedroom, she lay flat on the bed in a starfish position.
Lu Huailin walked in with a smile and said cheerfully, “Wife, you’ve got a letter.”
Gu Yihan immediately sat up when she heard that. She glanced at the letter in his hand and reached out to take it.
As she opened it, she muttered softly, “Why would Hu Shan write to me?”
Lu Huailin raised an eyebrow. “That woman with something wrong in her head?”
Gu Yihan rolled her eyes at him and kept reading.
Seeing her expression darken, Lu Huailin leaned closer and whispered, “What did she write?”
“Read it yourself.”
She slapped the letter onto his chest. He instinctively held it.
After skimming it, he deliberately widened his eyes and said exaggeratedly, “Whoa, her parents had another son more than twenty years younger than her?”
“And she was so heartbroken she wanted to kill herself?”
Gu Yihan: “……”
Lu Huailin shook his head as he read. “Fake. If she really wanted to die, she wouldn’t be writing you. Good thing her parents had another kid. Otherwise, relying on her, they probably wouldn’t even know how they died.”
When he read that Hu Shan wanted Gu Yihan to help introduce her to a suitable soldier for a blind date, he froze.
Looking up at his listless wife, he laughed. “Wife, you absolutely cannot help with this.”
Gu Yihan shot him a look. “What? Do I have ‘Saintly Heart’ carved on my forehead?”
Lu Huailin smiled and pulled her into his arms.
“I’m just afraid you’ll be soft-hearted and agree without thinking.”
Gu Yihan sighed softly. “Hu Shan isn’t as bad as you think. She’s just been smooth sailing since childhood. She’s never faced setbacks, so she’s a bit childish.”
Lu Huailin’s mouth twitched.
Whether she was childish or not, he didn’t know.
In his opinion, that woman was mentally unstable.
No way could he let her harm the good soldiers in the army—even divorced ones.
Seeing Gu Yihan frowning in thought, he quickly changed the subject.
“By the way, wife, we’ve figured out Grandma’s situation.”
Hearing this, Gu Yihan immediately put Hu Shan aside.
She looked at him and asked softly, “Why did Grandma bring Gu Meng back?”
Lu Huailin kissed her cheek and said slowly, “She found out Qin Shou plans to marry a widow with a daughter. She was afraid that woman would kick her out after entering the family.”
Gu Yihan froze. “Just because of that?”
Lu Huailin nodded.
“I send her so much money every month. How stupid would that widow have to be to kick out such a rich old lady?”
“Wife, you can’t say that. Your grandma is also worried that Kang Long might be abused by a stepmother. She thinks no matter how good Qin Shou’s new wife is, she’s not as good as Gu Meng.”
Gu Yihan was speechless.
She really couldn’t understand her grandmother’s way of thinking.
Holding his soft, fragrant wife, Lu Huailin soon felt his body heat rise and his thoughts wander.
He lowered his head and whispered hoarsely by her ear, “Wife, don’t think about it anymore.”
Before she could respond, he kissed her.
The Next Morning, Gu Yihan groggily opened her eyes. When she saw the handsome face so close to her, she froze for a moment.
Lu Huailin kissed her cheek. “Good morning, wife.”
“Mm, good morning.”
She lazily stretched and slowly sat up with half-closed eyes.
Lu Huailin chuckled. While helping her dress like he was taking care of a child, he casually said something that shocked her.
“Wife, the service station’s daily necessities counter needs a sales clerk. I signed you up.”
Gu Yihan instantly woke up. She stared at him with wide black eyes.
Carefully, she asked, “Dear, does that mean… I have a job?”
Lu Huailin squatted down to put on her shoes. “Do you want to go?”
“Yes! Of course!”
“Then go. Report tomorrow. Salary is 35 yuan a month, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., weekends off.”
“Really?”
“Really. Would your man lie to you? The pay’s a bit low though. Don’t mind it.”
“I don’t mind, I don’t mind!”
She jumped onto him excitedly.
Wrapping her arms around his neck, she kissed his cheeks several times.
Lu Huailin held her firmly by the waist, afraid she’d fall.
“How did you know I wanted to work?” she asked.
Lu Huailin sighed as he carried her downstairs. “You’re my wife. How could I not know what you’re thinking?”
Her eyes welled up with tears. Touched, she kissed him again.
Haohua came back from the cafeteria with breakfast and saw his dad carrying his mom downstairs.
He asked curiously, “Dad, is Mom’s leg hurt?”
Gu Yihan hurriedly jumped down.
She walked over and patted his head. “Haohua, thank you for your hard work.”
Haohua rolled his eyes and went to the table, laying out the food.
“Mom, I’ve been buying breakfast for two months already.”
Gu Yihan awkwardly rubbed her nose. She’d been too excited.
She went to brush her teeth, wash her face, and apply cream in one smooth motion.
Even Lu Huailin, who was washing up, was stunned watching her.
She patted her fragrant cheeks and sat down to eat.
After taking a bite of a bun and a sip of soy milk, she sighed, “My son buys the best soy milk.”
Haohua pushed his cup toward her with a grin. “Mom, drink more. Have mine too.”
She chuckled and pushed it back.
Smiling fake-sweetly, she said, “Just because it’s good doesn’t mean I like it.”
That little rascal was trying to dump what he didn’t like on her—no way.
