At lunchtime, Fang Yi joined them at the dining table.
Miaomiao, her chubby little hands holding the chopsticks, picked up her favorite eggs and put them in her bowl, happily calling out, “Mom, eat this!”
Fang Yi, left behind by Mother Lu, was in high spirits. She already knew that Miaomiao was the Lu family’s soft spot.
After all, she was the only younger generation in the family. The eldest sister-in-law had suffered a miscarriage last time, and whether she could have children in the future was still uncertain.
As for the little one in Gu Yihan’s womb, who knew what might happen before birth?
Fang Yi deliberately kissed her daughter on the cheek and casually praised, “Miaomiao is so good.”
The little girl felt so happy being praised that she enjoyed her meal even more.
Fang Yi glanced at Gu Yihan, who was quietly eating beside her, and couldn’t hide the smugness in her eyes.
Mother Lu looked at Fang Yi coldly. She was only allowed inside because of concern for the child; otherwise, she would never have let her in.
Gu Yihan and Lu Huailin exchanged a glance, both silently grateful that they would be taking the train home today.
In the bedroom, after packing his things, Lu Huailin lifted Gu Yihan and gently touched her belly. “I’m sorry, wife, for letting you suffer.”
Thinking of everything that had happened over the past few days, Gu Yihan sighed, “Luckily we live far away, or I think we’d be getting a divorce by now.”
Lu Huailin froze. He never expected his wife’s first thought to be divorce instead of resolving the problem.
He bit her neck lightly and growled fiercely, “Forget it. I’ll never divorce you in this lifetime.”
Gu Yihan pushed his head away, her gaze locking onto his. “You won’t divorce me, but do you really expect me to put up with your eldest sister-in-law for the rest of my life? And endure her bullying?”
Lu Huailin shot his wife a reproachful look. “What nonsense are you talking? How could I ever let you suffer?”
Then he thought about it: his older brother would never divorce Fang Yi, so they’d inevitably have to deal with her in the future.
He sighed helplessly. “Wife, if sister-in-law provokes you without reason, you don’t have to put up with her.”
Gu Yihan snorted coldly, turning her head away and ignoring him. She didn’t believe it—anyone would grow tired of prolonged family conflicts.
Seeing his wife ignoring him again, Lu Huailin lowered his head and kissed the top of her head, softly coaxing, “Don’t be upset, okay? I’ll go find Leng Xiao to take us to the train station. No need for older brother, right?”
Seeing her still didn’t respond, he had no choice but to go find Leng Xiao first.
After Lu Huailin left, Gu Yihan sat on the bed in a daze. Although it had only been a few days, she really wanted to return to Kun City.
“Creak.”
Hearing the bedroom door open, Gu Yihan raised her head in confusion and saw Fang Yi entering uninvited.
She frowned, her expression sour. “So rude—don’t you know how to knock?”
Fang Yi looked at Gu Yihan with a triumphant little smile. “See? As long as Miaomiao is here, I’ll always have a place in this family.”
Gu Yihan froze for a moment upon hearing this. Whether Fang Yi was in the house or not had nothing to do with her.
Then she realized—the woman was flaunting herself in front of her, trying to assert her importance in the Lu family.
Gu Yihan looked at her as if she were a fool and said sarcastically, “With that attitude of yours, who could possibly tolerate you? And you think you’ll always have a place? The New China is established. Although there’s no concept of divorcing a wife, the Civil Affairs Bureau still allows divorce.”
Fang Yi’s face immediately turned cold. Her gaze was sharp as she looked at Gu Yihan. “I really should let my blind little brother-in-law see how sharp-tongued you are.”
Gu Yihan lowered her eyes, pretending to fidget with her fingers, not even raising an eyelid. “What, are you only allowed to lie? And no one else can speak the truth?”
Fang Yi, infuriated by Gu Yihan’s attitude, realized that since she entered, Gu Yihan hadn’t once called her ‘eldest sister-in-law’ and had been dismissive.
“Why so quiet? Can’t even say ‘sister-in-law’?” Fang Yi asked in a sour tone.
Her hatred for Gu Yihan had reached its peak. If it weren’t for her, she wouldn’t have been looked down on by Mother Lu.
Gu Yihan looked up at Fang Yi and sneered. “Want me to call you sister-in-law? Then you have to act like one.”
She looked at her with growing contempt. “With the way you are, expecting me to call you sister-in-law? Don’t make me laugh.”
Fang Yi’s eyes landed on the luggage on the bed and the marks of two boxes.
A flash of jealousy crossed her eyes—Mother Lu must have given Gu Yihan an extra portion of savings. Already upset, she now heard her insulted.
Anger shot straight to her head.
“As eldest sister-in-law, if you have no upbringing, I’ll educate you in place of your parents!”
Fang Yi stepped forward aggressively, raising her arm to slap Gu Yihan.
Gu Yihan, reacting faster than thought, grabbed her arm mid-swing.
She countered, slapping Fang Yi across the face. Damn it—thinking she was a pushover!
In a fit of rage, Gu Yihan unleashed unprecedented strength, yanking Fang Yi’s hair.
She pinned her on the bed and, almost crazed, slapped her face repeatedly.
“You bitch, shrew, ah… venomous woman!”
Fang Yi dodged and kicked, trying to strike Gu Yihan’s belly.
Hearing the commotion upstairs, Lu Huailin was shocked. He ran with the speed he trained in during exercises.
As he stepped into the bedroom, he was startled by Fang Yi’s foot aiming at his wife’s belly. Cold sweat ran down his back.
With one swift step, he pulled Gu Yihan out of danger, then grabbed Fang Yi and dragged her off the bed, pushing her out the door.
Lu Huailin’s eyes were icy as he stared at Fang Yi. His voice was like ice: “Don’t be shameless. I’m not my older brother—I won’t consider Miaomiao’s feelings for someone like you.”
Fang Yi shot him a resentful glare, regretting not having harmed the baby in Gu Yihan’s womb.
She also had gotten slapped for nothing, touching her reddened cheek. “You two are ganging up on me.”
Gu Yihan had now calmed down. She stepped out of the bedroom and softly asked Lu Huailin, “Can we leave now?”
Lu Huailin held her hand, feeling how warm it was—probably from using too much strength.
“Alright. Let’s go now.”
He took her hand, returned to the bedroom, picked up their packed belongings, and went straight downstairs.
Not far from the house, they ran into Mother Lu, who was walking Miaomiao. She looked at her youngest son carrying luggage in surprise.
She glanced at her watch—it was only three o’clock—and asked puzzledly, “Why are you leaving so early? Isn’t your train at seven in the evening?”
Lu Huailin stopped and held his wife’s hand tightly. The thought of coming home late even for a moment and losing the baby was unbearable.
Unable to not vent his anger at his older brother, he said coldly to his mother, “Mom, from now on, wherever Fang Yi is, we won’t go.”
Hearing her youngest son’s resolute words, Mother Lu stiffened. She lowered her gaze at Miaomiao, wanting to avoid calling Fang Yi ‘sister-in-law’ in front of the child.
Seeing the disgust in her son’s eyes, she had no choice but to change the topic. “What happened?”
Lu Huailin looked at Miaomiao and said coldly, “That vicious woman wanted my son dead.”
Then he held Gu Yihan’s hand and headed straight to Leng Xiao’s house.
Mother Lu watched their determined backs, hating Fang Yi even more.
