The next morning, Gu Yihan opened her eyes and stared at the unfamiliar bedroom, momentarily stunned.

After a while, she realized where she was—it was in Jing City.

She raised her hand to rub her eyes, sat up, and looked around the room. Seeing no sign of Lu Huailin, she threw off the covers and got up.

On her way downstairs, she hadn’t even reached the living room when she heard Mother Lu’s hearty laughter.

“Grandma, Miao Miao is telling the truth. You can’t laugh at me!”

The little girl’s high-pitched, childlike voice reached Gu Yihan’s ears.

Mother Lu’s gentle voice responded, “My granddaughter is amazing.”

“She inherited the Lu family genes—so young, yet she could take down that chubby Fang Jiye.”

Mother Lu laughed until tears nearly came. She couldn’t believe that her six-year-old granddaughter could defeat ten-year-old Fang Jiye.

Miao Miao, the little girl, pouted and turned away from her grandmother, just in time to see Gu Yihan coming down the stairs.

Lu Huailin also looked at his little niece, his eyes full of amusement.

Following her gaze, he looked up and saw his wife standing at the stairwell.

He quickly stepped forward, gently taking Gu Yihan’s hand, smiling as he asked, “Wife, are you hungry?”

Gu Yihan’s gaze fell on the little girl nestled in Mother Lu’s arms. She wore a pink cotton jacket—a color that was clearly a bestseller from Friendship Store, not cheap at all.

The little girl had a plump, round face and big curious eyes staring at her.

Mother Lu was amused by her granddaughter’s expression, gently patting her head. “Miao Miao, quickly call Second Auntie.”

The little girl’s round eyes widened as she covered her small mouth with both hands. “Second Auntie, you’re so pretty! Even prettier than Mom.”

Gu Yihan’s heart softened at the little girl’s adorable demeanor.

She walked over to Miao Miao, bent down, and gently brushed her little nose, smiling: “Miao Miao is really cute too.”

Miao Miao casually reached out and touched Gu Yihan’s belly, blinking and saying in a childlike voice, “I know you belong to Second Auntie.”

Lu Huailin deliberately moved closer to his wife, smiling in a playful way.

Then, addressing his little niece, he said, “Miao Miao is really something. She even knew about Auntie in advance, without meeting her.”

Sensing Lu Huailin’s disbelief, Miao Miao withdrew her small hand from Gu Yihan’s belly.

She turned and hugged Mother Lu’s neck, speaking in a muffled voice, “Mom said the little brother in your belly will take my things.”

Upon hearing this, Gu Yihan immediately wiped the smile off her face. She no longer felt like teasing Miao Miao.

She walked straight to the sofa across the room and sat down, her gaze coldly fixed on the little girl sitting in Mother Lu’s arms, and fell silent.

Gu Yihan was well aware that she was venting her frustration, but there was no way around it—no one was more important than the child in her belly.

A child is the only treasure in the world that shares your own bloodline.

Lu Huailin’s expression darkened, his eyes full of coldness as he strode over to sit beside his wife.

Mother Lu, holding Miao Miao, was momentarily stunned after hearing her granddaughter’s words; her smiling face immediately turned cold.

She set the little granddaughter down on the sofa, letting her sit on her own.

Standing up, she shouted toward the study upstairs, “Lu Huaixu!”

Upstairs, in the study.

Father Lu and eldest son were discussing something when they heard the shout from Mother Lu.

They exchanged a glance and came out of the study one after the other.

Lu Huaixu hurried downstairs, puzzled. “Mom, what’s wrong?”

Mother Lu, clutching her chest in anger, shouted, “Look at what your wife’s family has taught Miao Miao!”

The little girl was terrified by her grandmother’s sudden outburst; she didn’t understand why Granny was angry, but she could keenly feel that she was no longer liked.

“Wah… Dad, Granny doesn’t like me…”

Miao Miao teared up and looked at Lu Huaixu, opening her little hands, wanting a hug.

Seeing his daughter scared to tears, Lu Huaixu quickly stepped forward and picked her up.

He scolded, “Mom, was it really necessary to lose your temper in front of the child? Didn’t you see Miao Miao got scared?”

While speaking, he gently soothed his crying daughter. “Don’t cry, Miao Miao. It’s all Dad’s fault.”

Miao Miao sobbed, “Waa… I want Mommy, I don’t like Granny anymore.”

Listening to Lu Huaixu’s reproachful tone, Mother Lu’s chest heaved with anger.

Father Lu walked over and patted her back, his face cold. “What’s going on exactly?”

Lu Huailin watched the family drama with cold eyes, carefully holding his wife’s hand.

He looked at Elder Brother Lu and sneered, “Big brother, why don’t you just ask Miao Miao yourself?”

Lu Huaixu, holding his daughter, walked back and forth in the living room, heart aching as he comforted her.

Hearing Lu Huailin’s sarcastic tone, he couldn’t help but get angry. “What? Miao Miao isn’t even six yet. Did she offend you?”

A trace of ridicule flashed in Lu Huailin’s half-lidded eyes. “Miao Miao is small… are all of your in-laws small-minded too?”

Seeing the tension between his two sons about to boil over, Father Lu frowned and shouted, “Everyone shut up!”

Mother Lu, heartbroken, grabbed Father Lu’s arm and quietly wept. “What did I do to deserve this, giving birth to two who never make life easy? Finally, the family is reunited, and we wanted to have a good New Year, yet it turned into this.”

Her eyes were full of disappointment as she looked at Lu Huaixu. “Your wife’s family, spreading nonsense in front of Miao Miao. They said that the child in Xiaohan’s belly would take her things. Who could even say such things?”

Lu Huaixu tightened his hold on Miao Miao’s hand. “This has nothing to do with her. She’s just a child; how would she know? If the child had any bad intentions, would she even learn it from you?”

After saying this, Lu Huaixu fell silent. Only Miao Miao’s quiet sobs filled the living room.

She cried herself to sleep, and Lu Huaixu carried her upstairs.

Before leaving, he cast a cold glance at Lu Huailin and his wife, leaving a final word: “I’ll come down later to deal with this.”

Seeing his eldest brother’s look, Lu Huailin clenched his wife’s hand and snorted coldly.

Mother Lu, pointing at Elder Brother Lu’s retreating back, began to cry again.

Turning to Father Lu, she said, “Look at him! What kind of attitude is that?”

Father Lu, seeing her cry again, tried to soothe her. “Why are you crying? Why meddle in the children’s matters?”

Mother Lu stared at him in disbelief. Not only did he not support her, he even made a sarcastic remark. “Who else would I be doing this for if not for the children, for the harmony between brothers?”

Father Lu guided Mother Lu to sit on the sofa. “You’re just looking for trouble. The children have their own families now; let them handle it themselves.”

“Meddling between them changes the nature of the situation.”

Mother Lu patted his arm. “You men just don’t understand. You have no idea what women go through.”
