The maid beside her snapped again, “Which household are you from? How dare you stare at the Second Prince’s Consort like this—such rudeness!”
Hearing this, Ji Wushuang snapped out of his thoughts and returned to his calm expression. “I am Ji Wushuang, acting under imperial orders to escort the Heir Rongsheng to the palace.”
“So you’re Ji Wushuang?” Gu Yanshuang frowned slightly, sizing him up from head to toe.
Her daughter had mentioned this man to her many times. She had also heard that Ji Wushuang was the Ninth Princess’s favored match, so she had specifically warned her daughter to stay away from him and not offend the princess.
But who would have thought—today, he had come to arrest her son.
Gu Yanshuang’s eyes flickered as she quickly made a decision. “Since you are acting on imperial orders to take Rongsheng into the palace, I won’t say more. However, that female corpse must be left here.”
“I cannot comply.” Ji Wushuang replied with just four words, then ignored her and turned to the Imperial Guards. “Take both the Heir Rongsheng and the corpse away!”
“How dare you!” Gu Yanshuang flared up. “That’s just a lowly maid from my residence—what right do you have to take her!”
Before Ji Wushuang could speak, Zhao Tao could no longer hold back. Furious, he shouted, “That’s nonsense! She’s my cousin—the daughter of the Director of the Imperial Observatory! Since when did she become your lowly maid?!”
“Where did this dog of a servant come from?” Gu Yanshuang snapped coldly. “I am speaking to Commander Ji—what right do you have to interrupt? Someone, slap his mouth!”
Though she appeared composed on the surface, she was actually panicking inside.
She was only stalling for time, hoping Huangfu Yi would return.
Normally, even if Huangfu Rongsheng committed countless wrongs, killing a woman wouldn’t matter much.
But the problem was—this matter had already reached the Emperor.
Now, only Huangfu Yi could save their son.
However, Ji Wushuang wasn’t buying any of it. He glanced at her indifferently and said, “Take them away. Anyone who dares to obstruct—kill without mercy!”
“Yes!” The Imperial Guards surged forward, grabbing Huangfu Rongsheng and dragging him out.
Zhao Tao also lifted the girl’s body, his face filled with grief.
“This is outrageous! Outrageous!” Gu Yanshuang panicked, quickly ordering her attendants, “Stop them!”
But who dared?
These were Imperial Guards.
Despite her command, not a single person moved.
Huangfu Rongsheng cried out to her repeatedly, “Mother, save me!”
Each cry pierced her heart.
Ji Wushuang personally pushed past the elegantly dressed consort and led the group out in force.
“Sheng’er! Sheng’er!” Gu Yanshuang could no longer hold herself together, chasing after them in tears, her dignity as a consort completely gone.
Ji Wushuang ignored her.
Like mother, like son.
The Second Prince had long been stationed at the borders, protecting the country—yet his son had turned out like this. This woman was hardly innocent.
Behind them, Gu Yanshuang cried and screamed in desperation.
Just as they were about to leave the residence, Huangfu Yi rushed back.
Seeing the scene, his eyelids twitched violently. “Wushuang, what is this…?”
“The girl is dead.” Ji Wushuang said, pointing to the body Zhao Tao was carrying.
Huangfu Yi’s eyes widened in shock as he looked at the girl.
Calling her a “woman” didn’t even feel right—though beautiful, her face was still that of a child, not yet fully grown.
Yet now she stared lifelessly, eyes wide open, filled with unresolved grievance.
Huangfu Yi staggered, nearly fainting.
It wasn’t that he didn’t know his son was useless and had done many outrageous things.
But hearing about it was nothing compared to seeing it with his own eyes.
