Su Xi angrily pounded the ground.
She wanted to chase after him, but she was injured—just moving made her whole body ache.
Damn that Shadow Master—he was way too ruthless!
Isn’t this exactly what Tang Wan meant by using a high-level account to bully a low-level one?!
What she didn’t know was that the Shadow Master himself was feeling rather speechless at the moment.
He, the dignified leader of the Dragon Shadow Guards, had almost been taken down by two children.
Even now, there was still a little girl on his back attacking his ear!
The Shadow Master didn’t dare go back to the ruined temple outside the city, nor did he have the time.
The little girl on his back was too troublesome—if he threw her off, he might hurt her; if he didn’t, she kept attacking his ear.
Out of the corner of his eye, he spotted an empty courtyard and decided to make temporary use of it.
He landed in the yard, set Madam Jiang down, then immediately grabbed the little girl off his back and tossed her aside before quickly taking out a pill and swallowing it.
Only then did the dizziness slowly subside.
Ling Yue shrank beside Madam Jiang, staring at him warily. “Who exactly are you? Why are you kidnapping my mother?”
The Shadow Master ignored her and walked toward them step by step.
“I—I—I… I’ll fight you to the death!” Ling Yue was frantic. Spotting a rake nearby, she grabbed it and swung it at him.
But before she could take a few steps, she stepped on a small stone, lost her footing, and fell forward!
The Shadow Master frowned slightly and stepped forward to catch her—but instead, she knocked him down, and the two of them ended up face to face—
smack!
The rake clattered to the ground with a loud clang.
The Shadow Master’s eyes widened. Ling Yue’s eyes widened too.
Big eyes staring at small eyes, separated only by a mask—the air instantly fell into dead silence.
For some reason, even while she was completely stunned, Ling Yue stuck out her tongue and licked his lips.
The Shadow Master’s eyes widened even more!
Only then did Ling Yue realize what she had just done. Her face flushed bright red as she scrambled to get up and slapped him. “Pervert!”
The Shadow Master was wearing a mask, so the slap didn’t hit his face—but the mask slipped off.
A strikingly handsome face was instantly revealed before Ling Yue.
His eyes were like rippling water—clear, pure, with a hint of innocent confusion.
His skin was as smooth as fine porcelain, his nose high and straight, and his lips shaped like cherry blossoms, beautifully defined and alluring.
Ling Yue was completely stunned, her mind flooded with the thought: Holy crap!
This looks—wasn’t inferior to her big brother at all!
The Shadow Master quickly picked up his mask and put it back on, then stood up and cupped his hands in apology. “Sorry.”
“Uh…” Ling Yue remembered she had just kissed this handsome man, and her mind turned into mush. “Y-you… why are you hurting my mother?”
The Shadow Master’s gaze was sincere. “I have no intention of harming her. I only wish to ask a few questions.”
“What questions?”
“…” What do you mean ‘no comment’? Why no comment?!
Ling Yue wanted to say, Whatever you want to ask, you can ask me too.
But before she could speak, the Shadow Master vanished. The next moment, she felt a strike to the back of her neck—and fainted.
The Shadow Master caught her and gently placed her on the ground, his expression complicated as he looked at her.
After a moment, he reached out and poked her cheek again.
Hesitating briefly, he lowered his head and lightly kissed her lips, his expression turning strange.
His heart seemed to be beating faster… was he sick?
He’d have Su Li check him when he got back.
With that thought, the Shadow Master didn’t delay any longer. He set Ling Yue down and went to Madam Jiang, helping her sit upright and repeating the same method.
When Madam Jiang opened her eyes and met his gaze, her eyes gradually turned dull and unfocused.
The Shadow Master asked calmly, “Is your surname Jiang… or Gu?”
