TFWYH – Chapter 45 Old Lady Liu

The sickly-looking Old Madam Liu immediately perked up when she heard the news. She sprang up from the bed and began cursing into the air, waving her hands wildly:

“That thing that spreads her legs for men! Does she not remember—if it weren’t for this old woman, would she have even gotten into the Ling family?! Now that she’s done using me, she wants to toss me aside?! That black-hearted, shameless wretch, just like that Jiang-shi—can’t move her legs when she sees a man!”

Ling Xiaofang, who had no respect for her grandmother, scoffed impatiently:

“Granny, so what now? We’re just gonna let that fat hag walk all over us?”

She couldn’t stand how all her grandmother ever did was curse and yell without taking any real action. If you’re so mad—go teach her a lesson already! What’s the point of all that barking?

Old Madam Liu wanted to—until she recalled the scene of Tang Wan dragging back that massive earth dragon.

At the memory, her courage instantly shriveled. But the rage inside her had nowhere to go. She glared viciously at Ling Xiaofang and jabbed a finger hard against her forehead:

“What use are you?! Your granny gets bullied and you don’t even stand up for me? You’re all the same—worthless, ungrateful little mutts!”

Ling Xiaofang’s internal monologue was one big WTF. She backed up, rubbing her forehead, utterly fed up with this grandma of hers—but on the surface, she wore a pitiful, aggrieved expression:

“She’s my cousin-sister-in-law. I’m an unmarried girl—if I go stir up trouble with her and someone sees, how am I supposed to hold my head up in this village? You’re different. You’re her elder—what can she possibly do to you?”

Old Madam Liu paused at that.

That… actually made sense?

No matter how fierce Tang Wan was—so what? She was the elder! The real matriarch of the Ling family! What could Tang Wan possibly do—raise a hand against her?

Ling Xiaofang, seeing her hesitate, pressed in with another push:

“Granny, if you don’t teach her a lesson after the way she’s treated you, she’ll be walking all over you next!”

“She wouldn’t dare!” Old Madam Liu stiffened her neck. “This old lady is going over right now to reason with her—let’s see what kind of granddaughter-in-law she thinks she is!”

Saying that, Old Madam Liu stormed out like a thundercloud.

Old Master Ling, lounging outside and leisurely puffing on his pipe, glanced up when his wife came charging out, but quickly looked away again.

Let her cause a ruckus.
If the second branch really has struck it rich, skimming a little off the top would be a win for the whole Ling clan.

Old Madam Liu charged toward the second branch’s house, trailing sparks like a firecracker.

Right behind her was Ling Xiaofang, the perfect sidekick, sowing chaos all along the way. Every time someone asked what was going on, she’d wear a sorrowful expression and exaggerate:

“Tang Wan is outrageous! You wouldn’t believe how she upset Granny! She’s gone too far—absolutely heartless!”

Huan Shan Village wasn’t exactly big. Once the day’s farming was done, people were usually idle—who would pass up a free drama?

And so, before long, a crowd of villagers had gathered behind Old Madam Liu, following her to the second branch’s home.

The scene was… pretty dramatic.

Truth be told, Old Madam Liu had been nervous about confronting Tang Wan.

But with this kind of crowd backing her, she was emboldened.

There’s no way Tang Wan would dare lay a hand on her with so many people watching. Reputation matters, right?

Really, her granddaughter was quite clever—without her, Old Madam Liu wouldn’t have dared come at all.

Old Madam Liu marched forward in high spirits, a whole group of curious villagers trailing behind her, and soon reached the second branch’s doorstep.

And wouldn’t you know it—Jiang-shi had just returned from washing the bedding by the river.

Seeing the scene, she was startled:

“Mother, you… what’s all this?”

“Pah! You little tramp!”

Old Madam Liu pounced on the easiest target—Jiang-shi—and let out all her pent-up rage in one furious outburst.
