TFWYH – Chapter 204 The Immortal with Wide Sleeves

Lifting the light green curtain, Tang Wan’s eyes fell on a spacious, elegant room — a large Ru kiln vase, a carved redwood wardrobe, and a matching canopy bed filled her view.

At the dressing table sat Yanyan, carefully shaping her eyebrows.

Catching Tang Wan’s reflection in the bronze mirror, Yanyan’s eyes lit up with a smile. She turned around gracefully.

She wore a flowing gown of pale jade and misty green, its wide sleeves brushing the floor. Her ink-black hair cascaded down her back, tied only with a single green ribbon, and two slender locks framed her forehead — no other adornments.

Her makeup was faint, her skin like polished jade, her features delicate and soft, beauty laced with both gentleness and dignity, pure and ethereal — like an immortal who had accidentally descended from the heavens.

“Sister Wan, what are you staring at?”

Seeing Tang Wan dazedly looking at her, Yanyan’s ears flushed with a light red hue.

Tang Wan came back to herself, stepping forward.

“Nothing, I was just thinking… you’re beautiful — like a fairy.”

Yanyan’s cheeks turned pink, and she hid her smile behind her hand.

“Sister Wan, don’t tease me. I’m plain as a reed — you are the one with beauty that could topple a city.”

“We’re sisters,” Tang Wan said shamelessly, “so of course we’re both beautiful.”

She leaned in and studied Yanyan’s makeup.

“It’s a little too light, though.”

Yanyan hesitated, bashful.

“Then… perhaps Sister Wan could help me add a touch?”

“Gladly!”

Tang Wan thought for a moment, then picked up a small pot of lip rouge. With delicate precision, she painted a plum blossom mark at the center of Yanyan’s brow, then took a tiny pearl from the table and fixed it near the corner of her eye.

“There! Perfect — beautiful!” Tang Wan declared, satisfied with her handiwork.

Yanyan turned to look in the bronze mirror. With just a few of Tang Wan’s simple touches, her naturally elegant face now glowed with fresh radiance.

She touched the little plum blossom on her brow, delighted.

“I’ve never seen a woman decorate her forehead with lip rouge before. Sister Wan, you’re so creative.”

Tang Wan smiled.

“That’s called a huadian — a flower mark. It’s not my idea, really. I once saw other women wear it. There are many designs besides plum blossoms — I’ll make a list for you sometime so you can paint them yourself.”

“Alright!” Yanyan replied happily.

Just then, Madam Hong pushed open the door.

“Time’s up!”

“Coming, Mother!” Yanyan stood and turned to Tang Wan.
“Sister Wan, let’s go. We’ve composed so many songs together — tonight’s finally the debut.”

Yanyan, a talented musician herself, had written many melodies.

With Tang Wan’s modern sensibilities woven in, their collaborations had a freshness that even Yanyan found astonishing.

The two separated on the third floor — Yanyan smiling as she went to prepare, Tang Wan heading back down to the second floor, to the table where Su Yangyu and the others sat.

After introductions, the students — hearing that Tang Wan was Ling Yu’s cousin — treated her with newfound respect.

One young man named Xie Wenjie joked:

“Brother Ling, do you happen to have any sisters at home?”

“I have one,” Ling Yu replied calmly. “But she’s not yet thirteen.”

“Ah, what a pity!” Xie sighed dramatically.
“With you and Brother Yu both so handsome and refined, I can only imagine your sister must be a rare beauty. I was hoping I might have the honor of becoming your brother-in-law!”

Ling Yu chuckled.

“Brother Xie jests.”

Su Yangyu grinned.

“We’ve gathered here tonight not only to drink and compose poems, but also to hear the famous Miss Yanyan perform. They say she’s both breathtakingly beautiful and unmatched in talent — we’re eager to see if the rumors are true.”

Xie Wenjie added eagerly:

“Exactly! I can’t wait to see what kind of peerless beauty she really is.”

As soon as he finished speaking, the stage below lit up, casting a warm glow over the room.

A graceful woman stepped slowly onto the platform.

At once, the entire hall fell silent.

She wore a veil that half-concealed her features, but her figure was elegant, her eyes naturally alluring, and at her brow, a single plum blossom mark bloomed like frost-kissed winter scent — stirring everyone’s curiosity about what divine face lay hidden beneath that veil.
