She had no idea how she’d been found out.
But all that was no longer Tang Wan’s concern.
After returning home, Tang Wan immediately cleared out a room and began mass-producing facial masks.
The once-empty space was soon filled to the brim.
Tang Wan found it frustrating — there was no glass in this era, which made everything much less convenient.
Ling Yue, knowing how hard she was working, suggested, “Should we buy some servants to help?”
Buy people?
Well, that was true — this was ancient times, after all. Servants signed indenture contracts and were entirely reliable to use.
But Tang Wan felt it wasn’t necessary yet. She planned to wait until they had an estate before hiring people.
Ling Yue thought about it and agreed.
If they brought servants home now, there wouldn’t even be enough room for them to live!
So instead, Ling Yue called Aunt Yang and Aunt Hong back to help. Later, over dinner, she brought up another topic for discussion — she wanted to sell off one of their shops.
Madam Jiang was taken aback. “Sell it?”
Ling Yue nodded. “Yes, the shop makes money, but not much compared to our other businesses. Mother, we have so many ventures now and not enough manpower — we can’t keep up with everything.”
Madam Jiang thought about it and realized she was right.
But that shop had been their first business, and she had sentimental feelings for it. She hesitated. “Do we really have to let it go? We could just hire more people.”
Ling Yue replied, “I looked over the accounts last night. That shop only earns about ten taels a month. For that small sum, hiring extra staff isn’t worth it. We’d be better off hiring people to help with something more profitable.”
These days, their household was not what it used to be. To Ling Yue, a few taels of silver no longer meant much.
Tang Wan understood how she felt — it was like how the richest person in the world wouldn’t bother to bend down and pick up a hundred-dollar bill.
With the time spent bending over, they could make a better investment instead.
That shop did make money, but not much — and from the beginning, Tang Wan had never planned for it to be long-term. It was just a temporary stepping stone.
Now that they had multiple businesses running and were about to launch their facial masks, things were different.
The profit margin on those was far higher than beef jerky — it would be a goldmine!
After thinking for a bit, Tang Wan said, “Yue’er’s right. If we’re going to run a shop, it should be on the scale of Zuixian Tower — something like a hotpot restaurant or a milk tea shop. Either of those would make far more than selling pig offal.”
Ling Yue perked up instantly. “I know what milk tea is, but what’s hotpot?”
“You’ll find out soon — come with me to buy the ingredients later. Once you’ve learned how to make it, you can open a restaurant whenever you want.” It was already autumn — not too hot, not too cold — perfect hotpot weather.
“Deal!” Ling Yue said eagerly. Anything that made money caught her interest.
Seeing that her daughter and daughter-in-law had already made up their minds, Madam Jiang didn’t argue further. “Alright, but then — who do we sell the shop to?”
Aunt Yang opened her mouth as if to speak, but remembering her empty purse, she stayed silent.
Aunt Hong looked preoccupied, casting furtive glances at Yanyan from time to time.
After a moment’s thought, Ling Yue’s eyes lit up. “Sister-in-law, why not ask Uncle Tang? If he’s interested, we can let him take over.”
“Good idea,” Tang Wan agreed. “We’ll talk to my father when he comes tonight. We’ll have hotpot — we can discuss it then.”
“Let’s go!” Ling Yue said, pulling Tang Wan away without hesitation.
Tang Wan was secretly excited too.
The professor had once told her that hotpot was a world-famous delicacy — an absolute feast for the senses. When she was still a robot, he often ate hotpot alone while describing the joy of taste to her.
It had made her so envious.
But back then… she was just a machine — and couldn’t eat like a human could.
