Tang Wan would never admit that this thing reminded her of that sign from her previous life — “0527 and dogs not allowed inside.”
She simply thought the handwriting was ugly — absolutely no intention of revenge involved.
While Tang Wan was secretly planning lessons for Ling Yue, Madam Jiang and the others finally returned.
Although everyone’s faces showed signs of exhaustion, they were all in high spirits.
Madam Jiang and Widow Hong went into the kitchen to cook.
Little Ling Chen hadn’t seen Treading Snow all day and missed it dearly; as soon as he came home, he crouched in front of the dog, chattering nonstop.
Ling Yue, meanwhile, hugged a money jar and proudly ran up to Tang Wan, shaking it like a treasure.
“Big Sister-in-law, I earned a lot today! Look — over ten taels!”
Li Dashan and Ling Sheng were both extremely capable salesmen. Ever since they discovered that beef jerky was selling like hotcakes on Flower Street, the two had focused their efforts there.
Now, over 80% of the brothels on Flower Street had signed long-term contracts with them for regular purchases of beef jerky.
Zhang San and Li Si weren’t far behind either — they’d opened sales channels in teahouses, restaurants, and nearly every leisure venue in town.
“About seventy percent of Xiangxi Town’s entertainment spots have already signed contracts with us,” Ling Yue announced. “I’m thinking of asking Gesang to buy more beef.”
The main advantage was that beef jerky had a long shelf life — even if stock piled up, there was no risk of it spoiling anytime soon.
Faced with Ling Yue’s excitement, Tang Wan praised her earnestly, “You’re very capable.”
Being praised by her sister-in-law made Ling Yue blush; she looked shy yet a little proud.
Then Tang Wan continued, “That’s why you should study more too. What a girl ought to learn, she must still learn.”
Ling Yue froze, disbelief in her eyes. “Big Sister-in-law, are you joking?”
Tang Wan: “I’m not.”
“I don’t want to!” Ling Yue protested. She glanced fearfully toward Ling Yu’s room, her eyes rolling slightly before she forced a sweet smile. “Big Sister-in-law, I’m so busy these days. Where would I find time to study? Isn’t it better to use that time to earn more money instead? Don’t you agree?”
Tang Wan’s face remained cool. “No. If you don’t study, you’re not allowed to do business.”
“I already know how. Even if you forbid me now, it’s too late,” Ling Yue shot back, completely unfazed.
With the family business doing so well, who would turn down money?
Her sister-in-law was just trying to scare her!
Tang Wan looked at the smug little expression on her face — her fingers itched.
This girl was getting bolder by the day. Not only did she not fear her anymore, but she dared to disobey!
Does she really think I can’t handle her?
Just as Tang Wan was itching to “educate” Ling Yue properly, guests arrived!
Ling Canghe came with Yu Ziqing — and brought gifts too.
When Madam Jiang saw him carrying several large packages, she felt uneasy. “Big brother, you shouldn’t have brought all these gifts!”
Ling Canghe smiled. “They’re not all from me. Many of them were bought by my employer, Young Master Yu, to congratulate you on your new home.”
“Young Master Yu, that’s far too kind of you!” Hearing that he was the owner of Drunken Immortal Tavern, Madam Jiang was startled. She quickly called the sisters-in-law out. “You two talk with Young Master Yu — I’ll go prepare dinner. Young Master Yu, our home is humble, but please stay and have a simple meal with us.”
“Then I’ll trouble you, Madam,” Yu Ziqing replied politely, giving a courteous bow.
Once Madam Jiang entered the kitchen, he turned toward the sisters-in-law — more accurately, toward Tang Wan — smiling as his eyes gleamed.
“Madam Ling, forgive me for intruding.”
“It’s no intrusion, Young Master Yu. If there’s something you need, you could’ve just sent word. Why come in person?” Ling Yue interjected quickly before Tang Wan could respond.
As she spoke, she casually shifted a few steps sideways, deliberately blocking his view of Tang Wan, watching him warily.
