“Yes, I did.”
Song Yunfei took the lunchbox and lowered her head to eat, no longer wanting to talk to him.
Chu Jinhan didn’t say anything more either. He sat beside her and ate with her.
Not long after, his phone began ringing non-stop with notification sounds.
Out of the corner of her eye, Song Yunfei accidentally glanced over and saw that it seemed like Wang Qiang had sent him a bunch of files.
“If you’re busy, you should go first.”
Chu Jinhan glanced at the files sent by Wang Qiang and subconsciously put his phone back into his pocket.
Suddenly, Song Yunfei grabbed him. “Wait!”
Chu Jinhan’s arm stiffened.
Ignoring her pulling, he forcefully put the phone into his pocket.
Song Yunfei’s expression turned strange, with a hint of suspicion. “Uncensored, Chinese subtitles… what does that mean?”
Chu Jinhan’s expression also became somewhat odd. “I don’t know.”
This really wasn’t his fault—he truly didn’t know.
It all started that morning in the office. Wang Qiang noticed the scratch marks on his neck and shoulders and asked if they were caused by a woman.
Chu Jinhan naturally denied it, but Wang Qiang was experienced and didn’t believe him.
He said that when he first met his wife, he was young and inexperienced, and ended up hurting her.
She scratched him until he was covered in blood, and his injuries took a full month to heal.
Later, the two of them made up for their lack of knowledge by studying materials together, and eventually lived a happy life.
With the mindset of someone who’d been through it all, Wang Qiang kindly sent Chu Jinhan some “study materials.”
The atmosphere instantly became a bit awkward.
Song Yunfei looked at him hesitantly. “Will you watch it?”
Chu Jinhan took out his phone and, right in front of her, deleted his chat history with Wang Qiang. Naturally, the “study materials” were gone as well.
“I won’t.”
He added, “I didn’t expect him to send that.”
Song Yunfei had originally wanted to say that if he watched it, he could send her a copy too.
She hadn’t seen anything like that either—mainly… because she couldn’t find any resources.
But now that he had deleted it, it didn’t feel appropriate to bring it up anymore.
Song Yunfei suddenly thought of something else and discussed it with him. “By the way, since we have money now, can we move? To a better place?”
Chu Jinhan nodded. “You’re more familiar with real estate as an agent. Take a look at where you like, and we can move after deciding.”
Song Yunfei did know of a pretty good place. It was close to both their workplaces, the environment was decent, but the rent was a bit expensive.
“I know a place. It has two bedrooms, fully furnished, but the rent is three thousand a month.”
“Then we’ll move.”
Song Yunfei twitched her lips. Fine—discussing it with him wouldn’t get anywhere. She might as well go take a look herself.
The two of them finished their meal quietly, and Chu Jinhan went back to work afterward.
The next day, when Song Yunfei went to work, she brought the keys with her and went to check out the apartment.
The owner had bought the place for his job, but his whole family had moved out of town less than half a year after purchasing it. After renovating, they hadn’t even lived there for two days, so all the furniture inside was brand new.
However, he didn’t want to sell it, so he chose to rent it out instead.
Song Yunfei liked this place precisely because it was essentially unused—still like a new home.
After viewing it, she was very satisfied. It was on the twelfth floor, with a large balcony. The rooms had plenty of natural light, and from the balcony, she could even see the place where she worked.
Song Yunfei called the owner and, after some bargaining, managed to bring the rent down to 2,900.
This price was quite high for Qingcheng—average monthly salaries were only around 3,000, and a single apartment renting for nearly that much meant few people would be willing to rent it.
Otherwise, the apartment wouldn’t have gone months without being rented out.
The owner was very reluctant to part with the place and insisted on a deposit of three months plus three months’ rent upfront.
Song Yunfei could understand his feelings, so after thinking it over, she agreed.
They signed a one-year contract and paid three months’ rent plus a three-month deposit at once, spending 18,000 yuan in a single go.
When the weekend arrived, she and Chu Jinhan started packing their things and preparing to move.
They had lived here for over half a year, so they had quite a lot of belongings. The air conditioner and washing machine they had previously bought were already included in the new apartment, so there was no need to move them.
When they tried to sell them to the landlord, the other party tried to lower the price.
Since the items were still new, and the landlord was cutting the price down to one-third, Song Yunfei refused outright and directly contacted a second-hand appliance buyer to collect them.
Standing in the room and watching the workers dismantle the appliances, Song Yunfei couldn’t help but feel a bit sentimental.
Renting a place is like this—you’re either moving, or on your way to moving.
Chu Jinhan looked at her, taking in her melancholy expression.
Suddenly, Song Yunfei felt someone take hold of her hand.
She turned her head. Chu Jinhan didn’t say anything, but she seemed to understand what he was thinking.
She smiled and comforted him, “I’m just regretting that the things you bought were all brand new, and they were sold for only about 70% of the price.”
“Things like that are just external possessions. No need to dwell on them.”
Song Yunfei twitched her lips. Forget it—someone who had once been wealthy wasn’t someone she could easily reason with.
She could tell that even though Chu Jinhan had lost his memory and fallen on hard times, he didn’t seem to care much about money.
Except when she brought it up.
Soon, everything was dismantled, and the moving company’s truck arrived.
Without the furniture, there wasn’t much to move—just clothes, kitchenware, pots and pans, and such.
The largest item was probably the mattress.
It was something they had bought themselves, and perhaps out of attachment, Chu Jinhan insisted on taking it with them.
This was a residential community with security guards at the entrance, completely different from the unmanaged old neighborhood they had lived in before.
As soon as they entered the community and saw the greenery everywhere, it felt like life suddenly had something to look forward to.
After they finished settling in and cleaning up, it was already 10:30.
Song Yunfei lay sprawled on the sofa, not wanting to move at all.
Walking the dog could only be done by Chu Jinhan himself.
When Chu Jinhan returned, he brought back late-night snacks and milk tea for her.
But he didn’t see Song Yunfei in the room. He casually dropped the leash and placed the items on the coffee table before quickly heading toward the bedroom.
The next second, he heard a startled cry from outside.
He walked out of the bedroom and realized the sound had come from the bathroom.
She had been used to an old-style water heater in their previous place. Since the weather was hot, she liked to rinse with cold water first, and the water would gradually warm up as she washed.
After switching to the new water heater, just a few seconds after turning it on, hot water suddenly poured down, scalding Song Yunfei so badly that she jumped around in the bathroom.
Before she could recover, the bathroom door was pushed open from the outside.
She and the man at the doorway looked at each other.
“When did you get back?”
“Are you okay?” Chu Jinhan’s gaze scanned her. He had originally intended to check if there were any mice, but he accidentally saw her completely bare body.
Song Yunfei hurriedly hugged herself, but realizing she couldn’t cover herself, she squatted down instead.
Blushing, she said, “I’m fine! I just wasn’t used to the new water heater. Hurry up and close the door!”
“Alright.”
Chu Jinhan walked in and closed the door for her.
“……”
Song Yunfei was annoyed but didn’t dare stand up. “I told you to go out and close the door—I didn’t tell you to come in!”
