After saying that, Song Yunfei didn’t wait for him and turned back to continue cooking.
Chu Jinhan changed his shoes, went to the bathroom to wash his hands, and then entered the kitchen as well.
He looked around the kitchen once, and finally his gaze settled on Song Yunfei’s face. “Do you need any help?”
“No need, everything’s ready.” Song Yunfei scooped some soup from the pot with a ladle, intending to taste it, but found it too hot.
She handed the ladle to Chu Jinhan. “You try it.”
Chu Jinhan glanced at the slightly yellowish soup in the ladle, seeming a bit reluctant. “What is this?”
Seeing him hesitate, Song Yunfei said irritably, “Poison. To kill you!”
Chu Jinhan looked at her, remained silent for two seconds, then took the ladle and tasted it.
“How is it?”
Chu Jinhan nodded. “Tastes good.”
Only then did Song Yunfei nod in satisfaction, giving him a look that said “you’ve got good taste.”
“I still need a bit more time. If you’re free, take Qianqian out for a walk first. It looks like it might rain later, so we won’t go out tonight.”
Chu Jinhan responded, bent down to pick up the dog, and walked out.
Before leaving, Song Yunfei reminded him again, “Be back in half an hour.”
“Got it.”
He put the leash on the dog and led it outside.
The small dog was vastly smaller than him. Standing beside him, it looked as if it could be accidentally stepped on at any moment.
After taking Qianqian to relieve itself, he sat down on a bench in the residential area and didn’t move.
Chu Jinhan tied the leash to the bench and took out his phone, calling Wu Wei.
The call was answered instantly. Wu Wei’s excited and flattering voice came through, “Brother Chu! What can I do for you?”
Chu Jinhan asked, “How are the preparations going?”
“The account is registered, and we’re still raising funds.”
“How much have you raised?”
“Ten thousand already!”
“That’s enough. I’ll tell you tomorrow how to buy. Any movements on Liu Maocai’s side?”
Wu Wei said happily, “No movements. Didn’t he go bail out Ratos and the others yesterday? He got warned by the police uncle, so he probably won’t trouble you guys for a while.”
“For safety, you don’t need to worry for now. But work-wise, he might still find ways to mess with you.”
After Wu Wei finished, he only heard a simple “Mm” in response.
Wu Wei was momentarily at a loss—there was an awkward silence on the line.
“Well… if there’s nothing else, I’ll hang up.”
After ending the call, Chu Jinhan checked the time. After half an hour, he led the dog back.
The dishes were already on the table, and Song Yunfei was finishing the last dish.
He took the dog to the bathroom to wash its paws.
Song Yunfei came out with the dish. “So punctual. Come eat.”
The two sat at the dining table. Song Yunfei even took out a bottle of beer and poured it into two disposable paper cups.
“Let me tell you, I sold ten apartments today. That woman, Li Shan, was so angry her face turned green. Just thinking about it feels great.”
She handed him a cup. “Come, cheers—to celebrate both of us making money!”
Chu Jinhan took the paper cup. It felt flimsy, like it would collapse with a squeeze.
“You bought these cups?”
Song Yunfei said, “Saw an ad a couple of days ago—bought them for a cent. A pack of 20. Leaving them unused would be a waste.”
“……”
“Alright, stop worrying about the cups. Drink.” She finished her beer in one go.
Chu Jinhan looked at her for a moment, then slightly tilted his head and drank as well.
As she prepared to pour a second cup, Chu Jinhan reminded her, “Drink less. You’ll get drunk again.”
Song Yunfei refilled her cup anyway. “It’s fine. Who gets drunk after two beers?”
In the end, they each had three cups, finishing one bottle of beer.
Song Yunfei picked up her chopsticks. “Let’s eat. I’ve been busy—ah…”
She stopped mid-sentence, her expression freezing.
A familiar cramping pain surged in her lower abdomen, followed by a familiar warm flow moving downward.
The beer was cold, and she hadn’t expected such immediate effects after drinking it.
Chu Jinhan also noticed the change in her expression. Seemingly realizing something, his face turned serious. “Is the paper cup poisoned?”
“……” Song Yunfei, holding her stomach, was in pain—but his words made her laugh instead.
“I’ll take you to the hospital.” Chu Jinhan stood up, reaching to pull her along.
Song Yunfei quickly grabbed his arm, suppressing her laughter. “No… it’s not poison. It’s… that time.”
A hint of confusion flashed in Chu Jinhan’s eyes. “Which time?”
Song Yunfei murmured, “My period.”
Chu Jinhan slowly sat back down, looking at her uncertainly. “Period… you mean menstruation?”
“……”
Song Yunfei didn’t want to continue the topic. After recovering slightly, she got up and rushed to the bathroom.
“You go ahead and eat. I’ll use the bathroom.”
Chu Jinhan frowned slightly, staring at the bathroom door for a while.
Two minutes later, his phone rang.
He picked it up—it was a message from Song Yunfei.
[Um…]
[Can you help me buy sanitary pads? I need sizes 360 and 420 (pouting emoji)]
Chu Jinhan looked up at the bathroom, then at the message on his phone.
After a moment of silence, he replied with a simple “Okay.”
He got up and left. After going downstairs, he called Manager He.
Once the call connected, Manager He asked, “Xiao Chu, what’s up?”
Chu Jinhan moved his lips, and after a long pause, finally said a few words:
“Lend me 780.”
