She first called the landlord, but the landlord said it was too late and told her to handle it herself for now and that someone would come take a look tomorrow.
If she waited until tomorrow, the house would probably already be flooded.
With no other option, she had to call Chu Jinhan.
Chu Jinhan was in his office, discussing an exhibition plan with Mr. He.
When he saw her call, he excused himself to Mr. He and went out to answer it.
Mr. He looked like he wanted to say something but stopped himself, eventually letting out a sigh of frustration.
As soon as the call connected, Song Yunfei’s anxious voice came through, “Chu Jinhan, the kitchen water pipe burst—what should I do?”
“Where did it burst?”
“Near the wall. There’s a big crack there. I don’t dare let go right now.”
Chu Jinhan said in a low voice, “Look for the main valve and turn off the water supply to the entire house first.”
“The main valve… let me look.”
This was the first time Song Yunfei had encountered such a situation. In her past life, she had also rented places, but never one this old.
She had no idea where the valve even was.
After rummaging through cabinets and drawers for a while, she finally found something that looked like a valve under a cabinet at the other end of the counter.
“I found it.” She placed her phone on the stove, grabbed a wrench from the toolbox, and lay on the floor trying to turn the screw-like object.
“What kind of design is this? It won’t budge at all!”
After struggling for a long time, her hands turned red, but the switch didn’t move an inch.
At this moment, she really wanted to give the person who installed the plumbing a beating.
Chu Jinhan also heard her words and called out through the phone, “Song Yunfei.”
She crawled out from under the cabinet, picked up the phone, and said, “What? I can’t turn it. The kitchen is about to flood.”
Chu Jinhan said, “If you can’t turn it, don’t force it. I’ll be back right away.”
He hung up, turned back into the meeting room, and said to Mr. He, “Mr. He, a water pipe at home burst. I need to go back immediately. I’ve already written the general outline of the exhibition plan in my memo. We’ll discuss the details tomorrow.”
Mr. He opened his mouth, as if wanting to ask, Are you the boss, or am I?
But Chu Jinhan didn’t give him a chance to speak at all—he dropped the sentence and left.
Mr. He rubbed his balding head and sighed, comforting himself, “It’s fine. Talents are always a bit unruly like this.”
Just as Chu Jinhan walked out of the factory area, rain began to fall from the sky.
In just three minutes, the drizzle turned into a torrential downpour.
Visibility blurred. On the road, countless car headlights flickered, their lights blending with the rain curtain and distorting the entire view.
At a corner, a blinding flash suddenly appeared, along with an urgent car horn from the driver.
Chu Jinhan’s pupils slightly contracted.
Meanwhile, Song Yunfei gripped the pipe tightly, but water continued to seep through her fingers.
Outside, thunder roared and lightning flashed amid violent winds and heavy rain.
She was worried about Chu Jinhan’s safety. Riding an electric bike in such heavy rain was far too dangerous.
She thought about calling him to tell him to wait until the rain eased, but then realized he might already be on the road and wouldn’t be able to answer, so she gave up.
After a long wait, both of her hands had gone numb. She had lost count of how many times she had switched hands.
Chu Jinhan still hadn’t returned, and her worry grew stronger. Nothing bad better happen to him…
Finally, the sound of the door opening came from outside.
Song Yunfei’s heart lifted as she turned to look.
She saw him completely soaked, water dripping from his entire body. His white shirt clung tightly to him, almost revealing the skin underneath the fabric.
Without stopping, Chu Jinhan strode directly into the kitchen.
Song Yunfei wasn’t in much better condition. The water spraying from the pipe had already drenched her completely.
She was also wearing a white shirt. Through the thin fabric, the pattern of her beige undergarment could be clearly seen.
Seeing each other both looking like drenched figures, they both paused for a moment.
Chu Jinhan only glanced at her twice, then stepped through the puddles on the floor, walked up to her, and bent down to pick up the wrench from the toolbox.
“Why did you get soaked like this? Couldn’t you wait until the rain eased up before coming back?”
“It started raining halfway.”
He took the wrench and went to the main valve. Since the water pipe had broken before, Chu Jinhan knew where the main valve was.
He crouched down, located the valve by touch, and placed the wrench onto the screw.
After turning it firmly a couple of times, a clear “click” was heard, and the valve was shut off.
Song Yunfei also felt that the force of the water hitting her palm had disappeared.
Chu Jinhan pushed himself up from his knees. His soaked white shirt outlined his well-built physique.
Song Yunfei was momentarily stunned, but quickly noticed the injury on his elbow.
It looked like a scrape, and his shirt was slightly torn as well.
She hurriedly stood up, came over to him, grabbed his arm to check. “What happened to your arm?”
She tried to roll up his sleeve to examine it further, but he pulled his arm back.
“It’s nothing. Let’s clean up the water first.” Chu Jinhan casually said this and turned to grab tools to deal with the water.
Song Yunfei looked at his back and swallowed the words she was about to say.
She silently picked up a broom and began cleaning the water.
Inside the cramped kitchen, the atmosphere felt eerily quiet. The two of them cleaned the water in silence, neither of them speaking.
Song Yunfei’s gaze kept drifting toward Chu Jinhan. Looking at his sharply defined profile, the lines of his arms, and the scrape still seeping faint traces of blood.
He had been injured because he rushed back to help her.
She didn’t know what had happened on the way—whether he had fallen, or encountered something else. Had it been dangerous?
If she had known it would rain, she wouldn’t have called Chu Jinhan.
His sense of responsibility made her feel an inexplicable burden.
Soon, the two of them had cleaned up all the water in the house. The floor was as clean as if it had been washed.
Outside, the rain was still falling, occasionally accompanied by thunder and lightning.
Chu Jinhan looked at her. “Go change your clothes first.”
Song Yunfei nodded, found a set of clothes, and went to the bathroom to change.
The water valve had been shut off, so there was no way to take a shower, and even washing vegetables was impossible.
She quickly changed and came out—this time, she happened to catch Chu Jinhan changing his clothes.
Although she only saw his back, the firm, well-defined lines of his back, his broad shoulders and narrow waist made her involuntarily swallow.
This was far more visually appealing than anything in those “borderline” videos.
Unfortunately, she didn’t get to look for long before a white T-shirt covered that sight.
After changing into a short-sleeved shirt, the scrape on his arm became even more noticeable.
Besides the scrape on his elbow, his forearm was also red. Although there was no bleeding, the skin had been broken, and it clearly looked painful.
Song Yunfei went back into the room to find the first-aid kit. After checking it, she saw it had basic supplies.
She grabbed Chu Jinhan’s arm and led him toward the sofa. “Come here, I’ll help you apply some medicine.”
Chu Jinhan followed her and sat down on the sofa. He glanced at the injury on his arm but didn’t seem to care much.
“It’s just a minor injury. No need.”
Song Yunfei ignored him and took out iodine and cotton swabs. “It still needs to be treated. What if it gets infected?”
She held a cotton swab in one hand, gently holding his arm with the other, and carefully disinfected the wound.
“Does it hurt?” Song Yunfei looked up at him.
“No.” He looked at Song Yunfei, his expression still as calm as ever.
Song Yunfei met his steady, emotionless gaze and suddenly realized that, after all this time since coming here, she had never once seen him smile.
Not only during this time, but even in the original owner’s memories, she had never seen him smile.
She couldn’t imagine what he would look like when he smiled.
“Are you unhappy?” Song Yunfei couldn’t help but ask.
Chu Jinhan was puzzled. “Why do you ask that?”
“I don’t think I’ve ever seen you smile.”
