Song Yunfei didn’t know when she fell asleep, but the moment she woke up, she was startled awake.
She abruptly sat up to look for her phone, only to find it charging beside her on the bedside table. She let out a small sigh of relief.
Chu Jinhan, as usual, was in the kitchen making breakfast.
During the meal, she deliberately observed his expression but didn’t notice anything unusual.
She had accidentally fallen asleep last night and didn’t know how long Chu Jinhan stayed up watching. He probably didn’t recall who that actress was, right?
After breakfast, the two of them went to work. Chu Jinhan, as usual, rode her to the office on his electric bike, as if nothing had happened the night before.
In the morning, Mr. Zhao messaged her, saying he still wanted to visit several apartment layouts with her and compare them further.
Song Yunfei naturally agreed happily. However, last time she had gone there on an electric bike, which had left them somewhat dissatisfied.
Although she had managed to smooth things over, if she showed up on an electric bike again this time, the deal might fall through.
The company did have cars, but as a newcomer, she wasn’t allowed to use them. They were usually taken by the senior employees.
The only option she could think of was renting a car. But since the contract hadn’t even been finalized yet, spending several thousand yuan on a rental was clearly not a wise decision.
Suddenly, something occurred to her. She quickly picked up her phone, found Wu Wei on WeChat, and sent him a message asking if the Bentley he had previously rented had expired.
After about a few minutes, Wu Wei replied with a voice message:
“I rented it for half a month—there are still seven or eight days left. Sister Song, are you going to use it? I can bring it over to you.”
Song Yunfei was overjoyed and quickly replied: “Okay, but no rush. I’ll use it on Saturday.”
Although Wu Wei wasn’t a good person, he had been intimidated by Chu Jinhan’s identity, so he was still somewhat useful now.
On Wu Wei’s side, he had been worrying about how to improve his impression in front of Chu Jinhan. Now that an opportunity had come to him, how could he miss it?
Previously, he had agreed to take photos for Wang Laosan, but he hadn’t found the chance yet.
Mainly because he didn’t know where Chu Jinhan worked or where he lived.
These past few days, he hadn’t been idle either—he had been searching online for information related to Chu Jinhan.
He did manage to find a few scattered reports about Chu Jinhan’s disappearance, but there was no way to verify their authenticity.
There were hardly any photos either—or rather, he couldn’t find any real photos of Chu Jinhan at all. The ones that existed were fake.
This was understandable. A CEO going missing would have a huge impact, so the Chu family would certainly do their best to keep it under wraps.
First, to prevent market or company instability, and second, to avoid anyone encountering Chu Jinhan outside and harming him.
The few pieces of information that did exist were merely leaks that slipped through the cracks.
In the first month after Chu Jinhan disappeared, many reports surfaced, but the Chu family had been suppressing them all along.
However, under some deliberate circulation, a simple search could still turn up traces.
Now, though, it was very difficult to find anything—interest had long since faded, and even searching the three characters “Chu Jinhan” yielded very little.
Song Yunfei had said she would use the car on Saturday, but in the afternoon, Wu Wei drove it over.
However, he only parked the car by the roadside across the street and didn’t dare go into the sales office.
Previously, when he had pretended to be a rich second-generation and dated Xiaoshuang, someone from their shop had once seen him at a convenience store while he was arguing with his father.
Then that damned person recorded a video and posted it in their group chat, exposing his identity. Now that he had been unmasked, he had no face to walk in there anymore.
When Song Yunfei received his message, she immediately left the sales office and went to the roadside across the street.
At a glance, she spotted the familiar Bentley.
She knocked on the car window. The window rolled down, revealing Wu Wei’s somewhat sleazy-looking face.
He smiled at Song Yunfei. “Sister Song, I’ve brought the car for you.”
Song Yunfei looked inside. There was no one else in the car—only Wu Wei. Only then did she relax slightly.
“Didn’t I say I’d use it on Saturday? Why did you bring it over now?”
Wu Wei replied, “It’s the same thing. You can use it first and return it to me when you’re done.”
Song Yunfei still shook her head. “Isn’t this shared by the few of you renting together? If you give me the car, won’t they complain?”
Wu Wei waved it off carelessly. “We’re all good brothers. We don’t mind these things. I’ve already told them, so you can use it without worry.”
Song Yunfei hesitated for a moment, then asked, “Gas for this car must be expensive, right?”
Wu Wei chuckled, a hint of pride in his expression. “Of course it is. But don’t worry—the tank is full. As long as you’re not driving it from morning till night, using it for half a month is no problem.”
As he spoke, he opened the car door, stepped out, and tossed the keys to Song Yunfei. “Here, take the keys.”
Song Yunfei quickly caught them.
Before she could say anything, Wu Wei suddenly leaned in mysteriously. She immediately took a step back.
Wu Wei smiled awkwardly, rubbing his hands together. “Sister Song, these past few days… has Mr. Chu said anything about me?”
Song Yunfei replied, “Why would he mention you? As long as you don’t keep showing up in front of him, he probably forgot about you already.”
Only then did Wu Wei feel relieved. “That’s good, that’s good. By the way, how long is Mr. Chu planning to stay here and… uh, experience life?”
Song Yunfei thought for a moment. If nothing unexpected happened, based on the original timeline, it would probably be about a year.
“Roughly a year,” she said.
Wu Wei clicked his tongue. “Rich people really know how to play.”
“I won’t keep chatting. It’s so hot outside—I’m heading back to work.”
In reality, the sun wasn’t particularly strong today, but it was extremely hot.
Not the kind of scorching heat from direct sunlight, but a stifling heat—like being inside a steamer. Not only hot, but also sticky.
It felt like it was about to rain.
Wu Wei waved at her with a smile. “Alright, alright. Goodbye, Sister Song. Call me if you need anything.”
Song Yunfei returned to the shop with the keys in hand.
Even though Wu Wei had brought the car, she didn’t plan to drive it.
If Chu Jinhan saw it, he might start overthinking again.
That sensitive and insecure man… there was nothing she could do about it.
Song Yunfei thought to herself that once she saved enough money and before she ran away, she would definitely tell him the truth.
The only condition was—whether she could actually save enough within this year.
Thinking about it, it seemed a bit uncertain.
So Song Yunfei worked even harder at making phone calls.
Chu Jinhan said he would be working overtime that evening.
Seeing that it looked like rain was coming, Song Yunfei left work early and took the bus home.
On the way, she bought quite a lot of groceries and then went to the kitchen to start cooking.
Just after she had started steaming the rice and was about to wash the vegetables, she suddenly heard a dull thud from the water pipe below.
Immediately after, a jet of water burst out from beneath the countertop.
Song Yunfei was startled and quickly crouched down to check—sure enough, the pipe had burst.
This house was too old. Something was always breaking somewhere.
Watching the water gush out uncontrollably, Song Yunfei rushed out to find a toolbox.
She took out a roll of tape and wrapped the damaged area, but it only held for five seconds.
With a few “hiss” sounds, the water sprayed out again, splashing directly onto her face and soaking her completely.
Song Yunfei grew anxious. At this rate, the house would be flooded.
If the water seeped downstairs, it would be even more troublesome.
In a panic, she pressed one hand against the pipe to block the water, while reaching into her pocket with the other hand to grab her phone.
