Chu Jinhan let out a silent sigh. “I heard you.”

Only then did Song Yunfei feel slightly relieved. This man had one good trait—he wouldn’t say one thing and do another.

Once he agreed to something, he generally wouldn’t go back on his word. He was quite principled.

Song Yunfei quickly finished the noodles in a few bites and took the bowl to the kitchen to wash it.

By now it was already around three in the morning. She felt sticky all over, so she took a shower and returned to bed.

The next day, Chu Jinhan didn’t go out to deliver food, so he got up a bit late.

When Song Yunfei woke up, she found that he was still lying beside her.

However, there was a vast distance between them, and even so, one of her legs was still resting on his leg.

Song Yunfei quietly withdrew her leg.

In her mind, she thought she needed to find another excuse so the two of them could sleep separately again.

Otherwise, it would be too awkward.

She propped herself up and sat, then turned to look at the man beside her.

Seeing him lying there neatly and straight, she couldn’t help but sigh inwardly—he slept so peacefully.

If he hadn’t still been breathing, one might have thought he had already passed away.

Her gaze followed down from Chu Jinhan’s firm chest to his gray casual pants.

Those thin, loose pants… tsk.

They didn’t look small…

“What are you looking at?”

Chu Jinhan’s low voice came from behind her. Song Yunfei quickly looked away, staring at the floor beside the bed.

Pointing at the ground, she feigned surprise and said, “I just saw a mouse run under the bed. Hurry up and get up to check!”

As she spoke, she even pushed Chu Jinhan a little, acting as if it were real.

Chu Jinhan sat up, gave her a suspicious look, then got out of bed and bent down to look under it.

“Nothing.”

Song Yunfei felt guilty and touched her nose. “Oh… maybe it ran away. You just didn’t see it—it was a really big mouse.”

Chu Jinhan glanced at her meaningfully for a couple of seconds but didn’t call her out. “How big?”

Song Yunfei raised her hand to gesture. “About this big.”

Chu Jinhan slightly raised his brow. “Are you sure it’s only that big?”

“W—wait.” Song Yunfei suddenly realized what he meant. Her face instantly flushed. “What are you talking about?”

Chu Jinhan replied seriously, “The mouse. Wasn’t that what you were talking about?”

Song Yunfei’s mouth twitched, and she let out a dry laugh. “Yeah… I thought you were talking about the mouse too.”

Chu Jinhan didn’t continue the topic. “How are you feeling today?”

Song Yunfei touched her forehead and rubbed her nose. “Much better, but my nose is still stuffy and a bit uncomfortable.”

“That means you’re not fully recovered yet.”

Chu Jinhan got out of bed, first going to the kitchen to boil water in the kettle, then heading to the bathroom to wash up.

After he came out, Song Yunfei went in.

He then proceeded to prepare breakfast and tidy up the house.

In summer, the weather was hot, and even when no one was at home, many insects would still fly inside.

Every day, there would be a pile of dead insects on the floor. If left uncleaned for a few days, it would turn into a black, dense mess that looked especially unsettling.

By the time Song Yunfei finished washing up and came out, he had already cleaned most of it. He also went to the kitchen and prepared a cup of cold medicine for her.

Song Yunfei accepted the cup gratefully and thanked him.

Tilting her head, she asked Chu Jinhan, “Since neither of us is working today, do you have any plans?”

Chu Jinhan walked toward the kitchen. “No. What do you want to do?”

Song Yunfei glanced at the glaring sun outside and suddenly had an idea. “How about we go to the mall?”

Chu Jinhan glanced back at her. “What do you want to buy?”

“Nothing. We’re just going to enjoy the air conditioning—the house is too hot.”

“You’re still sick and haven’t recovered yet.”

“I’m fine!” Song Yunfei suddenly stood up and clenched her fists, flexing her nonexistent biceps to show she was perfectly fine.

Chu Jinhan looked at her for a moment, then shook his head, having no way to deal with her.

After they finished eating, the two of them immediately set off for the mall.

Just as they stepped out, their neighbor Li Jiao also came out.

She greeted them with a smile. “Heading out to go shopping?”

Song Yunfei nodded and smiled in response. “Yeah, sister-in-law. Are you going to work today?”

“No, I’ve made plans with two friends to go out and have a look around. Want to join us?”

Li Jiao was dressed very fashionably today—a purple spaghetti-strap long dress with a light white ice-silk sun-protective jacket over it, her hair in curls and her makeup meticulously done.

She didn’t look like someone approaching thirty at all.

Song Yunfei politely declined, “No, sister-in-law. We’re just going to buy a few things and then head back.”

Li Jiao smiled. “Alright then. I’ll head off first. Come to my place for dinner tonight.”

“Okay—”

Before Song Yunfei could finish, Chu Jinhan interrupted, “No, we have something to do tonight.”

The smile at the corner of Li Jiao’s lips stiffened for a moment, but she quickly returned to normal. “Alright then. Next time.”

After saying that, she walked downstairs in her high heels.

Looking at her graceful figure, Song Yunfei felt a bit envious.

Then she turned to Chu Jinhan and asked, “Why didn’t you agree? Do you and Brother Wang have some kind of conflict?”

Chu Jinhan didn’t answer her question. He walked downstairs first. “Let’s go. It’ll be even hotter if we wait.”

Song Yunfei pouted and quickly ran to catch up.

They rode an electric scooter straight to the mall. After parking, they went inside.

The mall’s air conditioning was very strong. As soon as she entered, Song Yunfei shivered.

It was still early, and there were empty seats in the mall. She quickly pulled Chu Jinhan over to claim one.

Then the two of them sat there, staring at each other.

Diagonal across from them was a women’s clothing store—not a luxury brand, but still fairly well-known.

The cheapest items started at over a thousand yuan, but the styles were quite nice, and many people were going in to shop.

Looking at those beautiful clothes, Song Yunfei could only sigh in admiration.

Chu Jinhan noticed her staring intently at the store and asked, “Why don’t you go in and try some?”

Song Yunfei pouted. “No. Where would I get that kind of money?”

Chu Jinhan said, “Money can be earned.”

“We’ll have to pay rent soon. If we spend it, we won’t have money for rent. Besides, spending a few thousand on one piece of clothing isn’t worth it. I’ll just buy the same style online later—one hundred yuan for three sets.”

Song Yunfei said casually. She didn’t really care about these things; as long as clothes were wearable, that was enough.

Chu Jinhan pressed his lips together and looked at a couple inside the store.

The man had his arm around his girlfriend, speaking proudly: “Baby, pick whichever set you like. Your husband will buy it for you.”

“You’re so good to me, baby.”

Soon after, the man walked out carrying five or six shopping bags in one hand, still holding his girlfriend with the other, head held high and chest out.

Chu Jinhan turned to look at Song Yunfei.

She was also staring at that couple.

Silently, Chu Jinhan withdrew his gaze, took out his phone, and turned it on.

He checked his balance—223.8 yuan.

He then silently turned off his phone screen again, gripping it in his hand, and lowered his long eyelashes in quiet dejection.
