Since the phone couldn’t get through last night, Song Yunfei drove overnight to the site of the accident.
She drove nonstop for a full nine hours and finally arrived at the location.
Seeing people everywhere on the mountainside along with cordoned-off areas, the last trace of hope in her heart was completely extinguished.
The news was true—something really had happened.
She staggered forward, trying to get inside, but the staff, seeing her condition, stopped her outside.
From a distance, Song Yunfei looked on. Metal wreckage was scattered across the blackened slopes and ravines, reflecting a cold, lifeless glint.
In the crater, faint wisps of black smoke were still rising, mixed with an indescribable, pungent odor that assaulted her senses.
She staggered, nearly unable to stand, and collapsed onto the messy ground.
It felt as though the world was collapsing inch by inch, dissolving into a cold gray-white void.
The noise and cries across the mountains, the figures of people—all gradually blurred.
“Sorry… if I had known this would happen, I wouldn’t have hidden it from you…”
“I should have told you earlier. It was my greed, my selfishness that kept you here…”
“It’s all my fault… I really was wrong. I’m sorry… I’ve hurt you twice…”
Although the scene only lingered on her for a few seconds before cutting away, it was enough for the two people in the living room to see the despair and grief on her face.
Her hair was blown wildly by the mountain wind, nearly covering her entire face.
She lay slumped on the ground, her shoulders trembling uncontrollably. Her entire being was consumed by despair, as if she could shatter at any moment.
“Ch-Chu… Mr. Chu…” Wei Ke looked at him uncertainly.
Chu Jinhan didn’t move. He simply stared fixedly at the screen. Even after the image had changed, his gaze did not shift at all.
After an unknown amount of time, he finally sat back down on the sofa, slowly.
“Wei Ke.”
“Yes, Mr. Chu!”
Chu Jinhan looked at the television screen and enunciated each word clearly: “Book tickets.”
“Tickets to Qingcheng?”
Chu Jinhan didn’t answer, but Wei Ke already understood. Without hesitation, he took out his phone to book the tickets.
Chu Jinhan, meanwhile, seemed to recall something and searched around the sofa.
Then he suddenly stood up and walked upstairs.
Arriving at the study, he opened a drawer and took out the phone inside, pressing the power button.
As soon as it turned on, countless missed calls and messages popped up like they were free.
He cleared them, and more appeared. Cleared again, and more still popped up.
After a while, the phone finally settled down.
However, when he tried calling back, no one answered.
He made over a dozen calls in a row, but no one picked up.
Chu Jinhan threw the phone aside, then picked up another one and dialed repeatedly—only to get the same result.
His brows furrowed tightly as he turned and walked out of the study, nearly colliding with Wei Ke, who was coming up the stairs.
Wei Ke quickly stopped in time. “Mr. Chu, the tickets are booked. The earliest flight at 11 o’clock. If we leave now, we’ll make it.”
Chu Jinhan said nothing and walked past him downstairs.
Wei Ke hurried to follow and drove the car.
A few minutes later, the car shot out like an arrow, heading straight for the airport.
Wei Ke followed closely behind and couldn’t help but ask, “Mr. Chu, since you’re leaving, should you inform the chairman and the others?”
The man didn’t slow his pace, his stride decisive and swift. “Inform them of what?”
“That you’re going to Qingcheng.”
Chu Jinhan glanced at him. “Watch your mouth.”
“Alright…”
As they were nearing the boarding gate, Chu Jinhan suddenly stopped and looked at Wei Ke again. “Why are you still here?”
Wei Ke froze. “I’m going with you.”
“This matter—I’ll investigate it myself.”
“…Investigate what?”
“Investigate the mastermind behind that woman.”
Wei Ke scratched his head. His head felt itchy, as if his brain had been stolen.
He seemed to remember that he had just said the car accident was an accident, right?
But at this moment, he couldn’t quite recall—had he forgotten to say it, or had Mr. Chu simply not listened carefully?
“Mr. Chu, as for Song Yunfei, I’ve already investigated—”
Chu Jinhan fixed a cold gaze on him. That murderous look forced Wei Ke to swallow the rest of his words.
He rephrased himself after a moment, carefully organizing his thoughts. “The investigation… isn’t very clear. She’s hiding too deeply. Only by closely observing her can we possibly find any clues.”
After he finished speaking, the killing intent in Chu Jinhan’s eyes faded, replaced by a hint of appreciation.
Chu Jinhan raised his hand and adjusted Wei Ke’s collar. “Stay in Haishi and handle things here. Send reports to my email if anything comes up.”
“Can’t I call you?”
“Try calling and see.”
Wei Ke smiled. “Understood, Mr. Chu. I won’t interfere with your investigation into the real mastermind. I’ll keep a close eye on the situation in Haishi for you.”

Song Yunfei didn’t know how long she had been sitting on the ground.
During that time, people had come to comfort her, and other victims’ family members had come to speak with her as well.
But she didn’t hear a single word. She simply sat there in a numb daze, staring blankly at the ruins in the distance.
Her tears had run dry. Her heart had gone numb.
It felt as if time had lost all meaning, and everything in the world had lost its meaning.
In normal times, she had constantly made plans to run away, mentally preparing herself every day for the possibility of never seeing Chu Jinhan again.
But when that moment truly arrived, all her mental preparation shattered so easily it was laughable.
When she first opened her eyes in this unfamiliar world, the first person she saw was Chu Jinhan.
And in the same way, hadn’t she treated him as her only anchor?
In this unfamiliar world, they had relied on each other as their sole support, getting through every lonely and uneasy night together.
She had once believed she was clear-headed, even rehearsing countless farewell scenarios in secret.
But now, staring at the devastation before her, she realized how ridiculous she had been.
Emotions are not something you can control just because you think you are clear-headed enough.
Someone pulled her up from the ground.
“Go back and rest first. The dead cannot be brought back. I’m sure your loved ones, if they are watching from above, wouldn’t want to see you like this.”
She didn’t know who was comforting her. Song Yunfei couldn’t hear clearly, nor could she see their face.
Her vision was pitch black—partly from sitting too long and feeling dizzy, and partly because night had already fallen.
She had been sitting here from morning until evening.
Everything around her had turned into blurred outlines. The crisscrossing lights made her head spin and her vision blur.
She returned to the car and sat down, not knowing what she was supposed to do, nor what to do next.
Her mind was completely blank.
Suddenly, a light from beside her flickered and caught her attention.
She turned her stiff head—it was the phone she had left on the passenger seat lighting up.
After a moment of silence, she picked it up.
After unlocking it, a familiar label appeared on the screen. Song Yunfei froze, staring intently at the incoming call, forgetting to breathe.
She blinked with difficulty, then slowly raised her hand to rub her eyes.
The frozen blood in her body seemed to flow back to her heart, and her long-stilled heartbeat began to pound violently again.
Was it… someone else using his phone? Was it official personnel calling to deliver the bad news? Or… something else?
She held her breath and tremblingly swiped to answer the call.
She didn’t dare speak, not even daring to breathe too heavily.
“Sorry, I missed the flight. Where are you right now?”
