After a long while, the agonized screams finally stopped. Within the water barrier, blood now covered about one-fifth of its space. The seven people above quickly landed and placed the water barrier over the empty space in the center.
Looking closely, the Wyvern inside the barrier was still barely alive. Its eyes bulged in fear, staring helplessly ahead. Its wings were riddled with wounds from the flying swords, blood dripping constantly.
“Young Master, the Wyvern has submitted,” one of the seven said, kneeling quickly. Wuque spoke in a low voice: as instructed, they had left only half of the Wyvern’s life intact. Without that order, they could have finished it in a single strike.
The Seven-Star Northern Dipper Formation—a legendary array—was truly overkill for a single Wyvern. But outside the island, their strength was limited; any other approach might have allowed the Wyvern to strike back.
Luo Mingyu nodded proudly. “Now, clean up the trash. Any remaining beasts here—catch them all and eat them. As for the formations outside, reinforce them. I have an old friend I want to catch up with as well.”
“Yes, sir!” The seven knelt, then went out without paying attention to the restrained Wyvern.
“Ruoshi, you and these two little ones stay here. I need to speak privately with the Headmaster.” Luo Mingyu’s lips curled in a smirk as he leaned down and kissed Ling Ruoxi on the cheek, then strode toward Luo Jiangyu.
Ling Ruoxi glared furiously, rubbing the mark on her cheek. Did this man have no sense of occasion at all?!
“Mom! Mom! I want a hug!” Yimeng tugged on Ling Ruoxi’s skirt, eyes brimming with tears. After so long apart, of course she missed her mother.
Ling Ruoxi had never been separated from the children before. At the moment she had sent them away, her heart felt empty. Seeing them now, she naturally hugged them tightly. Children were truly the heart of their parents.
“Old Yu, you’ve really aged,” Luo Mingyu said gently, supporting the trembling Luo Jiangyu as they both sat on a soft sofa.
“Young Yu, you’re still so young… but even you will grow old one day,” Luo Jiangyu chuckled, patting his own old back.
Unlike the hero described in textbooks, the old man before them no longer radiated the vigor of youth—he had grown older, frailer.
In his prime, he had shocked the Dragon Continent by slaying a prime dragon alone. The dragons surrounding it had been taken from its belly. But the brave warrior of the past had aged—who could have predicted such a fate?
“Old Yu, I will obey your lessons. But why did this group of beasts attack here so suddenly?” Luo Mingyu asked. Even with the formation, he knew the ground-level factor couldn’t be ignored. Beasts lacked human intelligence—they wouldn’t know the weakest point of attack.
The only explanation was that someone was controlling them. Even the Wyvern had been released, indicating the puppeteer was very powerful.
Luo Jiangyu nodded. He understood the situation but shook his head helplessly. “In my youth, I had no enemies. Whoever can control these beasts must be a beast master. All the beast masters I knew are dead—who else could be so powerful, commanding so many beasts?”
“Then you need to be careful, so the enemy doesn’t exploit a weakness. I’ll stay here for a while and investigate the beast attack. Hopefully it’s just a coincidence,” Luo Mingyu said, gazing out at the bamboo forest. He sighed softly. “Still… the scenery of this Bamboo Sea is so beautiful.”
“Ha, indeed. Six years ago, at this gathering, you were here. You little rascal, you left early,” Luo Jiangyu chuckled, patting Luo Mingyu’s shoulder.
Luo Mingyu pursed his lips, saying nothing. Only he knew why he had left—his identity had been exposed. But that departure had led him to meet that interesting woman.
“Did the two little ones bother you?” Luo Mingyu asked, pouring tea.
Luo Jiangyu shook his head with a smile. “Your children are sensible. How could they annoy me? Only they would pay attention to an old man like me.”
“Haha, forget the current generation; I only know my own son,” Luo Mingyu said. “Old Yu, come, I’ll help you heal.”
A soft breeze arose, rustling the bamboo leaves, drifting gently across the academy grounds.
When Ling Ruoxi saw the enormous dragon skeleton, she shuddered. Unlike the Wyvern, this was a real divine dragon!
Its long bones were fixed in place, surrounded by arrays to prevent children from touching it. Even after so long, the dragon head remained perfectly preserved. Its lifelike eyes glared ahead with unyielding hatred for the world.
“Unbelievable… dragons really exist. I’ve only seen them in dramas before… so amazing!” Ling Ruoxi squatted down, examining the dragon head. If real, its value was incalculable.
“Mom, Yizhui and I were so scared when we saw the dragon. Uncle Dragon got cut up like this… it’s so pitiful.” Yimeng reached toward it, but her hand was blocked. She stared at the dragon’s eye, dumbfounded.
Then, the dragon’s eye moved slightly. Yimeng screamed and stumbled back. “Mom! I’m scared! The dragon is alive—it winked at me!”
“What? I didn’t see it,” Ling Ruoxi said, puzzled, peering at the same eye—it looked no different.
She held Yimeng’s hand gently. “Be good, Yimeng. The beast attack scared you, didn’t it? Come, I brought lots of goodies. Let’s go to your room—I have a surprise!”
“Really? Yay!” Yizhui clapped and grabbed her hand, rushing ahead.
Meanwhile, the dragon head in the exhibit continued to glare angrily at the sky. Its furious eyes flickered, moving slightly downward. Watching the departing figures, the dead dragon head curled its lips into a wicked smile.
All beast corpses were collected as teaching material. Children eaten by the beasts were left in pieces—some just an arm, some half a body.
Everything had to be cleaned and organized. At this academy, life and death were accepted. Even the remains of deceased children were returned to their families. The academy held the authority over all explanations and ignored any troublemakers.
To become strong was to face life and death. Sudden attacks could end a life instantly. Reality was cruel.
The academy, now cleaned, had washed away the blood. The massive Wyvern remained in the center of the playground. Outside, streaks of light flashed—blue, cyan, green, and finally purple.
Teachers who understood the array bowed to the seven outside. This was the long-lost Seven-Color Array, based on sunlight colors and Dou Qi ranks—a legendary defensive formation. With it, even a fly could not pass from the outside.
The array also concealed deadly traps. Once activated, it could annihilate fifty thousand intruders. Its construction took the seven a full day, consuming immense Dou Qi.
Night fell. A bonfire burned, and the Wyvern in the center began to wake, violently ramming the water barrier, trying to escape.
“Little lizard, be good. Soon, you’ll end up as my… um, poop, and then I’ll flush you out,” Luo Mingyu teased, waving flames across the water barrier.
The Wyvern angrily spewed fire, but the intense steam nearly cooked it alive.
“Haha, this is fun!” The children, no longer afraid, imitated Luo Mingyu, holding torches against the water barrier. But their flames extinguished immediately—they lacked Luo Mingyu’s power to push flames into the barrier.
Ling Ruoxi sighed, pinching Luo Mingyu lightly. “You don’t actually plan to roast this Wyvern, do you?”
“Do you think?” Luo Mingyu raised an eyebrow. “I said I’d eat it, so I’ll eat it.” He eyed the plump meat. “The Wyvern’s skin is tough, but its meat is delicious—better than old dragon meat. Also, its blood can…”
“Wait, you actually ate the old dragon meat?!” Ling Ruoxi’s hair stood on end. That explains why the dragon head hadn’t decayed this morning—the meat had all been eaten by this guy?!
Luo Mingyu looked at her, confused. “Why not eat it? The meat’s okay. If you want some, I’ll see if any’s left and save a portion for you.”
Ling Ruoxi was speechless. The revered dragon of the earth was, to Luo Mingyu, apparently even less than a worm. If others knew, they’d be furious.
Step by step, Yimeng cautiously approached the water barrier. She pressed her hands against it, staring at the Wyvern inside. Its black eyes rolled slightly. She instinctively asked, “Hey… are you in pain?”
The Wyvern inside exhaled heavily. Its blood had already congealed; moving caused fresh bleeding, and it spat out blood from its wounds.
