However, in this outfit, she carried a hint of coarseness. Though she looked beautiful at first glance, the clothes didn’t suit her completely.
“Miss, you look amazing in this dress! It’s as if it was made just for you. Look at you—how gorgeous!” The shopkeeper gaped in astonishment, rushing forward to flatter her.
Ning Yue, proud and chest out, beamed and tried to move toward Luo Mingyu, but the man effortlessly avoided her advances. She quietly asked, “Do I look pretty?”
“Mm.” Luo Mingyu replied, barely acknowledging her.
Hearing his response, Ning Yue was ecstatic, nervously fiddling with her fingers. She hadn’t expected the man to compliment her.
With a creak, another white figure stepped forward.
Her long hair was casually tied with a string into two loose sections, flowing down her back. Her white outfit enveloped her graceful figure entirely. Only the thin belt at her waist hinted at her slender figure. The yellow over-skirt added a touch of ethereal charm, though it wasn’t as striking as Ning Yue’s ensemble.
Wearing the dress, Ling Ruoxi looked a few years younger, carrying a sweet, youthful charm. She spun around, smiling gently.
“How do I look?” she asked, twirling and raising an eyebrow at Luo Mingyu, lifting the straps of her dress playfully.
The shopkeeper nearly snorted in laughter but quickly nodded. “Little miss, you look perfect! Your brother will definitely choose you first!”
“Yes, Ruoxi, you look really beautiful,” Ning Yue nodded, now even more convinced that Ling Ruoxi was Luo Mingyu’s sister.
Only the man standing there scowled, scrutinizing Ling Ruoxi. Used to her usual tough demeanor, he found her new style unexpectedly appealing. Perhaps he liked youthful innocence, for otherwise, how could he be drawn to such a little thing?
After paying, they left.
On the bustling street, all eyes were on Luo Mingyu and Ning Yue. Their divine-like presence made them stand out in every gesture, leaving Ling Ruoxi unnoticed.
“I’m so tired!” Ling Ruoxi flopped onto the bed, rubbing her waist and yawning repeatedly. Ning Yue’s energy was incredible—she had shopped for clothes, visited the jewelry store, bought makeup, and even gold and silver accessories. Ling Ruoxi’s stomach was already in knots from hunger. She bought some snacks in desperation. After a full day of shopping, she realized just how exhausting “being a woman” could be—far worse than fighting monsters all day.
“You tired?” Luo Mingyu asked, raising an eyebrow. He reached out to massage Ling Ruoxi’s shoulders. Her good intentions had caused all this trouble; if she hadn’t taken in that other woman, none of this would have happened.
Ling Ruoxi didn’t reply, simply enjoying the strong hands pressing on her shoulders, murmuring softly, “Ah… more pressure… yes, just right… careful… too hard…”
Outside, Luo Mingyu’s expression darkened. He pushed the door open, only to see the two inside. Ning Yue immediately smiled. “Ruoxi, I noticed you didn’t eat much tonight, so I had the kitchen prepare some food. Come eat.”
“No, I’m fine,” Ling Ruoxi muttered. She was already stuffed from snacks and only wanted sleep.
Ning Yue set down the food, smiling seductively. “That’s fine. Mingyu, you should come out too.”
“Hmm?” Luo Mingyu’s face darkened. Did this woman intend to kick him out from sleeping near his wife?
Seeing his expression, Ning Yue quickly explained, “I meant, Ruoxi should rest. She’s so tired, we shouldn’t disturb her.”
“I’ll sleep here,” Luo Mingyu said coldly.
“Th-This can’t be!” Ning Yue exclaimed, flustered. The man beside her said, “You are siblings. No matter how close, you can’t share a bed. Especially someone grown like Ruoxi—this would harm her reputation.”
“Did you hear that, dear brother? I want to sleep alone.” Ling Ruoxi pinched Luo Mingyu’s cheek, laughing softly.
Luo Mingyu’s expression was as stern as Bao Zheng. His eyes gleamed as he said coldly, “This is my habit!”
“That’s not a good habit! You’re grown up and sharing a bed…”
“I’m tired, Miss Ning Yue. Please return to your room.”
Bang! Luo Mingyu slammed the door, giving no explanation. He turned to the figure on the bed, raising an eyebrow. “Who told you to call us siblings?”
“You are my true brother of affection… so that counts, right?” Ling Ruoxi smiled teasingly.
The man’s expression softened slightly. He approached, giving Ling Ruoxi a light spank. “Make it clear sooner, I don’t want to get entangled with other women.”
“Hey, other men like beautiful women. And now one is in front of you, yet you’re dissatisfied? Are you normal?” Ling Ruoxi swatted his hand and lay down on the bed.
Behind him, a dangerous aura emerged, eyes sharp as blood. Ling Ruoxi shivered, quickly turning and raising her hands defensively. “Luo Mingyu, listen! That’s not what I meant. I mean, men like multiple wives—but you… you’re like wood… only like… only like…”
“Only like you. Need a reason?” His brows lifted slightly. Luo Mingyu hugged her and kissed her passionately.
“Only like you…”
Warmth spread through Ling Ruoxi’s heart. She smiled secretly, arms winding around his neck in return.
Like lightning igniting fire, the room heated instantly. The entwined figures collapsed onto the bed, the atmosphere intimate and intense.
Meanwhile, Ning Yue clenched her hands, observing them, increasingly suspicious. No brotherly affection looked like this—this was clearly lovers’ eyes.
They… could it be…?
Shaking her head, Ning Yue gripped her blanket. “Impossible. They’re siblings. I must be overthinking. Hmph, with my beauty, which man wouldn’t desire me? Helian Yu, you wronged me. Now I’ve found a man a million times better—wait and see. I’ll have him personally ruin you!”
A cold wind rose, intensifying the chill.
Standing by the table, Helian Yu frowned, hands clenched behind him. His gaze fixed on the scenery outside, yet unfocused.
“Sir!” The old servant outside whispered, bringing ginger soup.
Helian Yu asked in a low voice, “What about that woman?”
“Sir… a man and a woman appeared from nowhere, saved her… she’s still in the city. What should we do?” The old man trembled, worry etched on his face.
Helian Yu’s expression darkened. He slammed the table. “Impossible! She was dragged out of the country. How could she return alive? Quickly—find out who saved her. And seal her mouth immediately—she mustn’t speak carelessly!”
“Yes, sir!” the old man replied.
At that moment, a gentle voice called, “Yu, where are you?”
“Ye Xiang, I’m here.” Helian Yu’s expression shifted, and he walked quickly inside.
The woman stepped out in a simple light purple robe draped over her shoulders, yet her emaciated frame was still visible. Despite her beauty, her face lacked color. She grasped Helian Yu’s arm.
“It’s been a whole day. Why haven’t I seen Xiaoyue? Where has she gone?”
“I told you, Ning Yue returned home. It will be a few days before she comes back. Don’t worry too much. Her marriage has been arranged to another young master with a good family. She won’t be mistreated.” Helian Yu smiled faintly, guiding Ye Xiang. “Come, I’ll see you back to rest. You shouldn’t be walking around in your condition.”
“I’m only worried about Xiaoyue. Yu… give up on me. How could I ever be your wife… I…” Ye Xiang coughed, covering her mouth.
Her frail body trembled, as if it could collapse any moment.
Helian Yu patted her back anxiously. “Don’t say that. I’ve sent for a doctor. If a cure exists, I will agree to anything. Don’t overthink. This life, I love only you!”
“Why go to such trouble…” Ye Xiang shook her head helplessly, pulling her robe. With Helian Yu’s support, she stepped into the room.
The old servant outside sighed silently, retreating from the room. Since the Li family’s daughter married Helian Yu, her health had steadily declined.
They married in name only. On the wedding night, Ye Xiang fell ill, and her condition hadn’t improved. Countless doctors and remedies had failed. Many even suggested preparing for the worst.
The young lady, still so young, could she really die? Perhaps this was fate.
However, Ning Yue—the Li family’s personal maid—had repeatedly seduced Helian Yu. The young lady’s illness hadn’t healed, and Helian Yu, misled by Ning Yue, had mistakenly engaged in an indiscretion with her.
Knowing Ning Yue shamelessly threatened him, they had no choice but to remove her, taking her abroad. Since she lacked virtue and spoke recklessly, they decided to deal with her ruthlessly.
