At seven o’clock that evening, Liu Hui declined Liu Lu’s invitation to come home for dinner and instead arrived at the hotel with Wu Xin.
Liu Lu didn’t insist.
The truth was that she herself was still trying to sort out the changes in her own family situation.
Just standing at the entrance, they could already see the hotel’s magnificent interior.
Both Liu Hui and Wu Xin hesitated.
“Xiaohui… are you sure it’s this place? We didn’t get it wrong?” Wu Xin asked quietly.
Ning Qing had originally planned to drive them over herself, but something came up, so she had left first.
Since they already had the address, she wasn’t worried they’d get lost.
“It should be… Look, the name and address match,” Liu Hui said as she carefully checked the room key card, though her voice lacked confidence.
“Let’s just go inside and ask,” Wu Xin said, gathering her courage.
Soon, after the staff verified the reservation, they were escorted to Ning Qing’s long-term suite.
“Ladies, Miss Ning said you’re welcome to use anything in the room. If you need anything else, just call the front desk.”
The waitress smiled warmly.
“Thank you.”
As soon as they entered, they were stunned by the luxurious décor.
“Xiaohui… a room like this must cost over ten thousand yuan a night, right?”
Wu Xin threw herself onto the soft sofa excitedly.
“Probably… I don’t know.”
Liu Hui had never stayed in such an expensive hotel either.
“No way. You told me your cousin wasn’t doing well?”
“This is not doing well?”
“Look at the clothes she’s wearing—they’re worth at least over a hundred thousand.”
“And I recognized her handbag. It’s a limited edition worth sixty-six thousand.”
Wu Xin knew quite a bit about luxury brands. She couldn’t afford them, but that didn’t stop her from following them.
Liu Hui herself was equally bewildered.
She had no idea how her cousin had suddenly become wealthy.
Not only had her appearance completely changed, she also had such a rich and influential friend.
At first, Liu Hui had even wildly guessed that perhaps Liu Lu had divorced Zhang Sicheng and found a wealthy boyfriend.
Or maybe Zhang Sicheng had won the lottery.
But after hearing Liu Lu’s brief explanation, she realized everything stemmed from her brother-in-law’s biological father.
After enjoying comfortable hot baths, the two girls thought about calling home.
In the end, they decided against it.
They still didn’t fully understand what had happened.
If they misunderstood the situation and told everyone back home, it might only cause unnecessary misunderstandings.
Besides, Chinese New Year wasn’t far away.
Liu Lu and Zhang Sicheng would certainly return home then, so there was no rush.
Still, Liu Hui couldn’t help feeling envious.
It seemed her cousin had truly endured all her hardships and was finally being rewarded.
Zhang Family Home
During dinner, Liu Lu told everyone about meeting Liu Hui and also about everything Ning Qing had done.
She knew perfectly well that although Ning Qing appeared to be helping because of her, the real reason was her father-in-law, Zhang Ran.
After listening, Zhang Ran said, “Since she’s your cousin, why didn’t you bring her home for dinner? Wouldn’t that seem a little inappropriate?”
Liu Lu explained, “She was exhausted today and hasn’t rested properly for the past couple of days. I’ll bring her over another time.”
Zhang Ran had only asked casually.
After all, she was his daughter-in-law’s relative. He didn’t want others saying the Zhang family lacked hospitality.
After finishing that topic, Liu Lu continued, “Ning Qing invited me to invest in some gaming club.”
“What do you think?”
Zhang Ran understood exactly what she meant.
From what he’d learned about Liu Lu over the past while, he knew it would be difficult for her to spend lavishly, much less invest.
The reason she was asking now was most likely because she wanted to repay Ning Qing’s kindness.
“You can decide for yourself.”
“I already told you—the money belongs to you now.”
“You don’t need my approval.”
“But…”
Liu Lu still looked hesitant.
Knowing what she was worried about, Zhang Ran smiled.
“You can invest.”
“The gaming club industry has enormous potential.”
“People today are under increasing pressure in life, and games are an excellent way to relieve stress.”
“Especially competitive games.”
“They’re inexpensive to play, highly enjoyable, and give players a strong sense of satisfaction.”
“As more people pay attention to them, the profits they generate will become considerable.”
Liu Lu looked only half convinced.
After thinking for a moment, Zhang Ran explained differently.
“You can think of the gaming world as the entertainment industry.”
“And gaming clubs are like talent agencies.”
“Imagine the development potential from that perspective.”
The analogy wasn’t completely accurate, but it was the easiest way for Liu Lu to understand.
Sure enough, she nodded with dawning comprehension.
Although many details still escaped her, she finally understood the general idea.
“More importantly…”
“Investing in Ning Qing’s gaming club also helps Sicheng’s company grow.”
Liu Lu looked puzzled.
Zhang Ran then explained the game Zhang Sicheng’s company was about to develop and the role gaming clubs would play in promoting it.
After hearing everything, Liu Lu felt much more at ease.
Now she was genuinely interested in investing, rather than simply wanting to repay Ning Qing.
Around ten o’clock that night, Zhang Sicheng finally returned home.
He had spent the entire day with Meng Mingxuan, where he also learned about the gaming club project.
He hadn’t expected his father not only to buy him a game company, but also to prepare so much groundwork for him.
Feeling both touched and encouraged, Zhang Sicheng found himself filled with determination for the first time in a long while.
His father had already done this much.
If he still couldn’t succeed, he’d feel too ashamed to face him.
That evening, Liu Lu also told him about Ning Qing’s gaming club.
After hearing that Zhang Ran had actually encouraged her to invest, Zhang Sicheng fully supported the idea.
Early the next morning, Liu Lu stood in front of her wardrobe looking troubled.
She didn’t want to wear such expensive clothes to work.
The hospital was busy, and there was always a chance she’d accidentally damage them.
If that happened, it would break her heart.
But wearing her old clothes again felt equally unappealing.
Everyone loves looking nice.
The only reason she had never cared much about dressing up before was because she couldn’t bear the expense.
Now that she finally had money—and the clothes had already been bought—leaving them hanging unused seemed even more wasteful.
In the end, following Zhang Sicheng’s suggestion, she chose the least expensive outfit she had bought two days earlier.
Even so, the clothes and shoes together still cost nearly ten thousand yuan.
As for work, Liu Lu had no intention of quitting.
Although they were wealthy now, she still didn’t feel entirely secure.
Having a stable job and earning her own salary every month gave her peace of mind.
Besides, Zhang Ran had never suggested she become a full-time housewife.
Everything was left entirely up to her own wishes.
When she arrived at the hospital, just as expected, her outfit immediately attracted attention from her coworkers.
Especially Wang Jiajia.
When everyone learned that her father-in-law had bought everything for her, the envy only grew stronger.
First, he had bought the couple a house—and registered it under both their names.
Now he’d bought her such expensive clothes.
And when they found out she had also purchased a brand-new car…
It wasn’t just envy anymore.
It was jealousy.
At that moment, quite a few nurses exchanged meaningful glances.
Some were already wondering whether they should go home and interrogate their own husbands—asking if they were secretly hidden rich second-generation heirs.
