On the way to the Transportation Bureau, Su Heng called both the Xi family and his own, subtly asking whether Su Ruo was with them. The answer from both sides was no.
He Wen had also searched all the places Su Ruo might have gone, but still came up empty-handed.
It was now certain that Su Ruo had truly gone missing. Each person in the group was lost in their own thoughts. He Wen couldn’t help but ask, “Could it be the same people who framed Mu You last time? First they tried to pin financial misconduct on her, now they’ve taken Ruo Ruo?”
“Didn’t we have Liang Bo’an look into that incident? Let’s ask him,” Lu Yue added.
They weren’t all in the same car—Xi Yuechen’s car was in front, while Liang Bo’an’s was following behind.
From the driver’s seat in front, Xi Yuehui spoke up, “Chief Liu explained last time that the trouble was stirred up by the only son of Shi Yan, the newly appointed deputy director of the Public Security Bureau from Province S. We didn’t pursue it further, thinking we’d wait for Liang Bo’an to finish his investigation before acting. Besides, they should already be aware of our sister-in-law’s background—it doesn’t make sense for them to act so rashly.”
After Lu Yue finished the call with Liang Bo’an, he cursed under his breath and then looked up. “He says he doesn’t know either. He’s already sent people to look into it.”
Liang Bo’an cursed once he hung up the phone, then quickly made another call.
“You have twenty minutes. Get me the answer.” He hung up immediately, his eyes cold and fierce, chilling the temperature in the car.
On the other end, the people receiving the order were terrified. Who didn’t know what this prince of a man was like? When he turned ruthless, no one dared to slack off. Everyone rushed to work with renewed urgency.
Soon, they arrived at the Transportation Bureau. Since they had already made arrangements en route, they encountered no resistance and were escorted straight to the surveillance room.
They now knew that Su Ruo had gone missing somewhere between Guose Tianxiang and Mu You, so they immediately pulled up all surveillance footage along that route. Everyone focused on a different monitor, terrified of missing even the slightest detail.
“Here!” He Wen suddenly shouted.
Everyone rushed over to him. He Wen glanced at Xi Yuechen, who was hunched over watching the screen intently, then stood up and said, “Sit here, it’s clearer from this angle.”
It was the first time He Wen had seen such an obvious emotional reaction from Xi Yuechen. Even she could sense it. His usual calm expression was gone, replaced with unmistakable worry and unease.
When he saw Su Ruo being forcibly dragged into a black sedan while struggling, Xi Yuechen’s face turned utterly grim. A cold and intimidating aura radiated from his entire being, sending a chill down everyone’s spine.
Lu Yue was about to curse, but the word caught in his throat. He didn’t dare say anything more.
“Track that license plate,” Xi Yuechen ordered coldly, eyes narrowed. Anger and worry surged in his chest.
At that moment, Liang Bo’an’s phone rang. He answered briefly, then hung up.
“It wasn’t the Shi family. Someone else is behind this,” Liang Bo’an said, frowning.
If it wasn’t the Shi family, then who was it? Who exactly had done this? How many people were keeping tabs on Su Ruo? It didn’t make any sense.
While they were still wracking their brains for answers, Xi Yuechen had already made another call. “I need a trace on vehicle *****. Immediately.”
Just as he hung up, Liang Bo’an also sent out a text message.
Meanwhile, Su Ruo had mostly recovered physically—at least enough to move freely again.
After discarding the idea of escaping through the window, she stubbornly opened the bedroom door. Sure enough, two burly men stood guard outside.
She didn’t need to think twice—clearly, that lunatic hadn’t gone to such lengths to kidnap her with any good intentions.
Su Ruo grew increasingly anxious. She couldn’t run, and who knew what that madman would do next? Had Su Heng and the others realized something was wrong? What about Xi Yuechen…?
Her phone had long since disappeared. She had no way to contact the outside world and could only wait for a chance to act.
Soon, the man Hong Shirong had sent to get medicine returned, bringing back a wide assortment, each with detailed instructions. Everything was very thorough.
Hong Shirong flipped through the instructions with great interest and selected a packet of powder—odorless, colorless, and completely undetectable when dissolved in water.
He stirred it into a glass of milk and smirked smugly. “Let’s see how you escape from my grasp this time.”
He adjusted his expression at the bedroom door, then walked in. As expected, Su Ruo was already awake and sitting on a small sofa by the window.
A gentle breeze lifted strands of her hair. Dressed in a white dress, she gave off an ethereal, otherworldly beauty—misty and fatally alluring.
Hong Shirong stared for a few seconds before coming back to his senses when Su Ruo turned and looked at him with unmistakable disgust in her eyes.
The look made him uncomfortable. If you just behaved, would I need to do all this?
“Thirsty? Have some milk.”
Su Ruo glanced at the milk in his hand with disdain. This was obviously a weasel paying respects to the hen—who in their right mind would drink that?
Hong Shirong chuckled calmly. “I know you think I’ve put something in it. But think about it—knowing you’d suspect it, why would I go to the trouble? If I really wanted to do something, I’d have used a method you wouldn’t notice.”
But deep down, he was counting on catching her off guard.
Su Ruo got goosebumps hearing his words, her revulsion deepening. He really is a sick bastard.
Hong Shirong wasn’t offended. He knew he couldn’t fix his image now. Let her hate me for now—once I’ve done what I need, I’ll coax her later. Women are all like that.
Seeing that he had no intention of leaving after setting down the milk, Su Ruo frowned. “Get out.”
Hong Shirong had planned to slowly coax her into drinking it. Being rejected so bluntly made him angry.
“Hey, this is my room. I come and go as I please. Who made you the mistress here?”
Su Ruo choked on her words. What a shameless man…
Seeing she couldn’t drive him out and unable to leave herself, Su Ruo finally asked, “What exactly do you want?”
“Nothing much. I just want you to give up your delusions and come to my side. You think I can’t afford to take care of you?”
…Su Ruo was furious.
“I already told you—I’m Su Heng’s sister. I’m married. Surely you’ve heard of the Xi family in the capital? That’s my husband’s family.”
“Oh please. Still making up stories at this point? The Xi family? Have you even met them? Trying to scare me? Not happening!”
No matter what Su Ruo said, Hong Shirong stubbornly refused to believe her. She was so angry she could spit blood. She finally turned away, unwilling to look at his disgusting face any longer.
Hong Shirong glanced at the milk on the table, narrowed his eyes, and said, “Fine, I’ll leave—but drink the milk while it’s warm. Basic hospitality, after all.”
He said it so casually, without the slightest sign of guilt. Even so, Su Ruo inwardly scoffed. Hospitality? From you? I’d rather die of thirst than touch that glass.
Seeing she didn’t react at all, a shadow crossed Hong Shirong’s face. He sneered, “What, think you’re something special? I’m only interested in that pretty face of yours. Don’t think you’re irreplaceable. You want to play hardball? Fine. Just wait—you’ll see!”
He slammed the door behind him as he stormed out.
Su Ruo jumped at the noise, uneasy. What did he mean by that?
She still couldn’t escape. If she jumped out the window, she’d be crippled if not dead. Then there’d be no hope of running, and she might not even survive.
His departure made her even more anxious. She paced around, wondering if anyone had realized she’d been kidnapped yet. Hopefully, someone would come rescue her soon!
She walked to the table, grabbed the glass of milk, and smashed it to the floor. Watching the shards scatter, she muttered a curse under her breath.
Meanwhile, Hong Shirong was fuming. He’d tried to treat Su Ruo nicely, but she was completely unyielding—a block of stone that couldn’t be softened!
If that was the case, she shouldn’t blame him for being ruthless.
He picked out a long, slender bottle from the collection of vials his friend had given him, his face dark with menace, and marched upstairs again.
“Watch the door. No matter what you hear, don’t interfere. Just guard it well,” he instructed the two men at the door, then opened it and went in.
The two men exchanged glances. Who is this poor girl? Looks like she’s not getting out of this one…
