“Commander, you didn’t actually break his hand just now, did you?”
Su Ruo followed beside Xi Yuechen, asking curiously. When they left, the guy’s face was twisted in pain, which didn’t seem fake. But she also felt that Xi Yuechen wasn’t someone so out of line that he’d actually break someone’s bones.
“No, I just used a bit of force to teach him a lesson.”
Xi Yuechen replied calmly as he walked slowly.
“Mm, I thought so too. You’re not the type to actually break someone’s hand. But still, that guy did deserve a good lesson — such a slacker.”
As Su Ruo dodged the passing crowd, she spoke while thinking about that man. Suddenly, a thought struck her, sending a chill down her spine.
Speaking of which, the chief is so strong… what if he turns violent at home in the future?
The thought made her imagination run wild. She wanted to ask Xi Yuechen directly, but one look at his expressionless face made her suppress the urge. Better not ask.
Usually, the chief seemed cultured and refined. He didn’t look like someone who’d commit domestic violence against a fragile woman like her…
Su Ruo calmed herself down and comforted herself mentally.
“Hey, Commander, that stall over there has some nice stuff. Let’s check it out!”
Turning her head, Su Ruo spotted a stall by the roadside, covered with many delicate trinkets. Under the lights, they glittered beautifully.
Xi Yuechen looked at Su Ruo’s excited expression. All traces of earlier displeasure had vanished — she seemed to have completely forgotten what just happened.
Seeing the stall had few customers, Xi Yuechen nodded. Since they were already out here, it wouldn’t hurt to look for some knick-knacks.
Su Ruo let go of his hand and bent over the stall to carefully browse and pick through the items. It was mostly glass rhinestone bracelets, necklaces, hairpins, and such. While not luxurious, they were small and exquisite — the kind of things girls loved.
Not that Su Ruo lacked accessories now. She had plenty. But seeing them reminded her of how she used to buy these things often at night markets. It stirred her emotions a bit. Plus, walking through a night market with Xi Yuechen felt novel and delightful. Everything seemed more interesting.
“Boss, how much is this bracelet?” Su Ruo picked up a simple, elegant bracelet and asked.
“Miss, you have excellent taste! You picked the best — and the most expensive — item I have. It’s not pricey, just 90 yuan. And someone with your classy air, that’s nothing, hehe.”
The stall owner was a middle-aged woman, smiling broadly as she talked to Su Ruo.
“Huh? So expensive? Just for this little thing?” Su Ruo frowned. How could this be worth 90 yuan?
“It’s not expensive at all. Nowadays, where can you spend less than 90 yuan? This bracelet may look simple, but look at the craftsmanship — it’s exquisite! You’ll look great wearing it. Here, try it on!”
As she spoke, the stall owner was already putting the bracelet on Su Ruo’s wrist.
Su Ruo looked at the bracelet now on her wrist. It looked pretty nice. She raised her hand toward Xi Yuechen and asked, “Commander, what do you think?”
Xi Yuechen looked at her slender, fair wrist with its graceful lines, and her delicate hands. He suddenly thought that anything would look good on her wrist.
“Mm, looks good.” It really did. The sparkling bracelet complemented her white, delicate wrist — eye-catching and elegant.
Hearing his approval, Su Ruo smiled, and she felt quite pleased with how it looked too.
The stall owner’s eyes lit up at the scene and she started praising even more: “Exactly, exactly! Your boyfriend has great taste. This bracelet suits you perfectly. Not everyone can pull it off like you. Just buy it. It’s only 90 yuan — a small price for a good mood!”
These two were clearly dressed well and had an elegant demeanor — obviously people of status. The stall owner had lived long enough to recognize that, so she became even more enthusiastic.
Boyfriend… Su Ruo was flustered. She didn’t dare look back at Xi Yuechen’s face.
Xi Yuechen raised an eyebrow at the words, looking somewhat surprised. He glanced at Su Ruo’s slightly red earlobes and curled his lips into a faint smile. His mood seemed quite good.
“That’s too expensive. Can’t you give me a discount?” Su Ruo still felt it was pricey. No matter how delicate, it was still just a street stall item — not something she could even wear on formal occasions.
“Oh, come on, Miss. Are you really short on 90 yuan? A little money for a happy mood — think of it as helping me out. Besides, it’s worth the price. Don’t hesitate.”
Seeing the owner wouldn’t budge, and since she was quite fond of the bracelet, Su Ruo took out a 100 yuan bill and handed it over.
“You’re so generous, Miss! Why take it off? Just wear it as is. Wishing you two a wonderful evening!” The stall owner smiled as she gave her the change.
Su Ruo returned to Xi Yuechen’s side, smiled sweetly, and called out, “Commander,” raising her wrist to show off the bracelet. Tonight’s Xi Yuechen was… really unusual. He actually walked around a night market with her and didn’t seem annoyed at all.
Recalling the earlier lesson, Su Ruo carefully tucked the change into her purse, zipped it properly, and slung it back on her shoulder.
Seeing her struggle, Xi Yuechen reached out and said, “Give it to me. I’ll hold it.”
“Huh? What?” Su Ruo didn’t quite catch on.
“Your bag.”
Xi Yuechen, as always, was concise. But his offer left Su Ruo utterly stunned.
He’s… going to carry her bag? Oh my god, what’s gotten into Xi Yuechen tonight? He’s being so considerate…
She didn’t dare ask what was up with him tonight, but her hands quickly handed the bag over — this was a rare opportunity! Xi Yuechen was turning into a good man!
Su Ruo was both shocked and secretly delighted.
Xi Yuechen could easily tell what was going through her mind. He smiled faintly, took the bag into his other hand, and made to walk forward.
Su Ruo hurried to grab his now-free hand. They had just taken two steps when a voice rang out behind them: “Fine, fine, 20 it is. Here, take it.”
It was the stall owner again. Curious, Su Ruo turned to look — and stopped in her tracks.
Standing at the stall was a couple, and the girl was holding the exact same bracelet Su Ruo had just bought — only… for 20 yuan…
Seriously?! Su Ruo fumed.
Obviously, Xi Yuechen heard it too. He raised an eyebrow at her, a faint smile on his face — clearly amused.
Su Ruo was thoroughly embarrassed. Did she really look like such an easy mark? She’d been overcharged 60 yuan and was even happy about it!
“It’s fine. Just 60 yuan — a small price for a good mood.” Xi Yuechen covered his smiling lips and said to the dazed Su Ruo.
“Hehe… a small price for a good mood… Commander, let’s go.” Su Ruo forced a laugh, but inside she was screaming. What good mood?! She was far from cheerful. And Xi Yuechen — was he just enjoying her embarrassment?
She’d been to night markets before — how could she let herself be ripped off like this? And in front of Xi Yuechen no less — it made her look like some clueless idiot.
Seeing her embarrassed, Xi Yuechen decided to let it go and didn’t look at her again. Holding her hand, he simply walked forward.
Girls like Su Ruo, who grew up in luxury and were used to high-end stores, rarely experienced places like this. It was understandable that she’d get ripped off. And really, 90 yuan wasn’t much — as long as she was happy.
Xi Yuechen thought to himself — unaware that Su Ruo used to frequent night markets like this all the time.
