Mu You’s misunderstanding was quickly resolved once the surveillance footage came to light.

The very day the footage was retrieved, Su Ruo didn’t rush to the police station. Instead, she leisurely stayed at home for two days. During that time, she received countless phone calls, more anxious than she was. She couldn’t help but feel glad that she had reminded them not to mention it to their families. Otherwise, forget outsiders—just her empress-dowager of a mother-in-law and her own mother would’ve caused chaos beyond belief.

Two days later, she finally brought He Wen, Xi Yuehui, and Su Heng to the station. What was the rush? The initiative was in their hands now—there was no need to hurry. She figured that even Director Liu wouldn’t dare go too far. Su Ruo didn’t let anyone else come along—these three insisted on joining, and she only relented because she couldn’t shake them off.

In hindsight, Su Ruo thought she would never forget the moment Director Liu’s expression shifted like a color palette flipping all at once.

When they first arrived and asked to see Director Liu, he greeted them with an arrogant, half-lidded glance, clearly convinced he had already won. He even sneered and said he thought they had tried to flee in guilt.

But the moment Su Ruo mentioned they had surveillance footage, Director Liu could no longer sit still. His face darkened.

And when the footage played, his expression turned completely complicated—stunned and in disbelief. Just where had they found such absolute idiots to mess things up so thoroughly?

Director Liu barely managed to suppress his urge to explode. Damn it, wasn’t this dragging him down with them? How could Young Master Shi hire such incompetent fools!

“Hah, I’ve truly seen it all today,” Su Heng sneered after a beat of silence. “Someone can be confronted with ironclad evidence and still act like nothing’s wrong—then double down on the nonsense. Honestly, you’re like a dead pig unafraid of boiling water. Tch.”

Even now, this man had no intention of correcting himself and continued to blatantly frame Mu You. Did he not care about his future at all?

“This Director Liu,” Xi Yuehui said at the right moment, a smile not quite reaching his eyes and looking more than a little like his older brother Xi Yuechen, “I suggest you be smart about this. Admit your mistake, and I might be generous enough to ‘not’ settle accounts with you—today.”

Director Liu was enraged by their remarks, finally tearing off all pretense and shouting out the door, “Where is everyone?! Get in here! What do you think this place is, a playground for you to run wild?! You don’t listen to reason? Fine! Do I need to shut down your store to make you confess?!”

“You dare!” Su Ruo’s expression darkened. “Under the emperor’s nose, you—a mere station chief—dare to act like a tyrant? If you insist on pushing this case through, fine! I’ll tell you now: we’ll see who comes out on top in the end. Let’s go!”

She had never seen someone this shameless. What was this man? Did he really think she was a pushover he could knead at will? Let’s see who can outfight whom.

“Hold it! Did I say you could leave? This isn’t some vegetable market for you to come and go as you please. Guards! Lock them up! If they don’t taste some real consequences, they won’t know what it means to confess and submit to the law!”

“Director Liu,” He Wen finally spoke, unable to hold back, her voice serious and commanding, “if you lock us up today, don’t come crying later.” What a joke—thinking of arresting her? Better ask her family if they’d tolerate such disgraceful behavior.

But Director Liu was already seeing red. He couldn’t hear the warning in He Wen’s voice—he was entirely focused on getting them locked up. Once inside, he had plenty of ways to make them “confess.”

Seeing that Director Liu really intended to arrest them, Su Heng gave a cold laugh, pulling out his phone to make a call. Su Ruo didn’t stop him. Since reasoning clearly no longer worked, they might as well deal with this like Director Liu—fight power with power.

Just then, Xi Yuehui noticed Su Heng reaching for his phone and reached out to stop him. Shaking his head at Su Heng’s disapproving glare, he calmly explained, “Hold your horses. I’d actually like to see how they plan to beat a confession out of us. But… let’s see if they even get the chance.”

As they spoke, several officers had already approached, clearly about to make a move to apprehend them. Su Heng and Xi Yuehui reacted swiftly, stepping protectively in front of Su Ruo and He Wen.

“What are you waiting for? Do it!” With Director Liu’s order, the officers lunged, and soon Su Heng and Xi Yuehui were locked in a skirmish with them.

Though they weren’t police themselves, it was clear that both Su Heng and Xi Yuehui were far superior in hand-to-hand combat. It made sense—boys who grew up in the compound had often been sent to the military for training when they were young. Even if they hadn’t joined the army, they had received professional training. Subduing them in just a few moves? Impossible.

Even though the officers were clearly at a disadvantage, Su Ruo couldn’t help clenching her fists tightly, palms slick with sweat.

Director Liu’s face was livid. What the hell had he been feeding these useless men? They couldn’t even handle two young punks?

“Where are the others?! Get in here already! Are you just going to let them riot like this?!” Director Liu shouted furiously at the officers watching from the hallway.

His scolding snapped them out of their stupor, and more police swarmed into the room.

Seeing the escalating situation, Su Ruo’s expression changed as well. No matter how skilled Su Heng and Xi Yuehui were, they couldn’t possibly fight off this many people. Were they really going to be arrested today? She began to regret not bringing more people. Who would’ve thought Director Liu would be this shameless?

Realizing the tide had turned, Xi Yuehui pulled back his punches and grabbed Su Heng’s arm. “Stop, stop—I’m done playing with you. If you really want to arrest us, fine, we’ll surrender peacefully.” What was the point of continuing the fight when they were outnumbered?

Su Heng frowned deeply at his words and was about to speak, but the surrounding officers didn’t wait for a response. In the blink of an eye, they surged forward and cuffed the two of them.

The moment He Wen saw the handcuffs, her anger exploded. “You dare handcuff me?! Fine, cuff those two—whatever! But if you so much as try to cuff us two women, I swear, I’ll make sure you regret it for the rest of your lives!”

Hearing that, both Xi Yuehui and Su Heng twitched at the corners of their mouths. What do you mean “cuff them, whatever”?!

The officers who had been about to pull out more handcuffs paused at her outburst. They looked at the two women again, then silently shoved the cuffs back into their belts. Just two unarmed women—what, were they going to run?

“You just wait—especially you, Director Liu,” Xi Yuehui growled through clenched teeth.

Director Liu wasn’t fazed in the slightest. He gave a smug snort and ordered, “Take them down.”

Just as his words fell, the screech of tires came from outside, followed by a loud bang as a car door slammed shut. The sound was abrupt, but those inside didn’t pay much attention.

One of the officers scoffed, “Which idiot came drifting around here again? Next time we catch ‘em, we’ll show ‘em what for.”

Xi Yuehui sneered in response but didn’t get far before he was shoved from behind, staggering. He turned around and snapped, “The hell are you pushing me for—!”

“What’s going on here?”

Amidst the chaos, a deep and authoritative voice rang out from the entrance. Instantly, everyone froze and turned toward the door—where a figure had appeared without anyone noticing.

“Chief?!”

Su Ruo blurted out in shock.
