“Ow, that hurts!”
Suddenly, Su Ruo twisted her ankle and fell to the ground, clutching her ankle with her free right hand and crying out in pain.
Hong Shirong looked at Su Ruo, who had suddenly sat down and appeared to be in pain. Her delicate eyebrows furrowed slightly, making her look pitiful and helpless. It instantly stirred his protective instincts.
“Hey, are you okay? How did you twist your ankle?”
Su Ruo took the opportunity to withdraw her hand from Hong Shirong’s grip, holding her ankle with both hands. She looked up at him with a wronged expression and said, “You pulled too hard. I couldn’t keep up.”
Under her gentle accusation, Hong Shirong immediately felt that he had indeed been too rough. A beauty like her should be treated with care and affection.
“Oh no, it’s my fault. I should be punished. Can you walk? Should I help you?” he asked gently as he squatted down beside her.
Su Ruo’s hand twitched slightly where it held her ankle. She hid the disgust in her eyes, bit her lip, and shook her head, saying, “You’re just interested in my looks. Why treat me like this? I said I’m Su Heng’s sister, but you don’t believe me. Fine, I’ll go with you.”
Looking at her aggrieved and dissatisfied face, Hong Shirong had no idea she was actually feeling nauseated inside.
Seeing her like this, he let down all his guard and smiled, “If you’d acted like this earlier, I’d have treated you tenderly, much better than that brat Su Heng. Want me to support you?”
“No need. It doesn’t hurt that badly now. I can walk on my own.”
Hong Shirong shook his head helplessly at her response. Beauty with a temper—he could work with that.
Su Ruo braced herself on the ground and slowly stood up. Then, without warning, she kicked Hong Shirong hard between the legs and immediately turned to run.
Caught off guard, Hong Shirong was hit squarely. A miserable scream escaped him as he crouched down, clutching his crotch, cold sweat beading on his forehead. He couldn’t even think about chasing after Su Ruo.
The two men beside him were stunned by the sudden turn of events. Hong Shirong’s scream snapped them back to reality, and they jolted, ready to chase after Su Ruo.
“Where the hell are you running off to?! Come back here!”
Hong Shirong was in agony, his lower half throbbing with pain. He was both angry and scared—what if she had done serious damage? The thought alone made him sweat even more. His voice trembled, “Useless trash! Get over here and take me to the hospital!”
Damn it, that woman kicked hard. And look at how fast she ran—how did she look even remotely injured? Bitch! Next time I catch her, I’ll make her pay.
Hong Shirong was helped by three of his men, limping toward the car, groaning in pain. He wasn’t raised in luxury, but he’d definitely grown up pampered. He’d never been injured before, and no man could tolerate that kind of pain. Between the fear and the pain, his legs had gone weak.
Su Ruo had no idea how long she’d been running. She turned a corner and rushed into a coffee shop, finally sitting down and letting out a breath of relief. It was a place she often visited with He Wen and the others, and she knew the owner. Even if someone followed her, she wasn’t afraid. Her limbs were trembling, and she was drenched in sweat.
The shop owner was startled to see her in such a state and approached, concerned. “What happened? Are you okay?”
Su Ruo, now relaxed, didn’t even have the strength to speak. She waved her hand weakly and kept panting.
Seeing this, the owner didn’t press her further. He turned and poured her a glass of warm water, placing it in front of her. “Here, drink some water. You look exhausted.”
Only then did Su Ruo notice the burning dryness in her throat. She picked up the warm water and took a couple of big gulps, trying to steady her breathing. The owner sat across from her, still looking worried.
What happened to make her so disheveled?
Su Ruo’s heart was still pounding. She had managed to escape. The twisted ankle had been a ruse—she couldn’t let them drag her into that car. When she kicked Hong Shirong, she hadn’t exactly held back, and she didn’t care if she’d ruined him. A man that shameless deserved no mercy.
She’d observed the surroundings before kicking him—those thugs had been some distance away, which gave her the chance to act. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have been able to get away. Besides, they were too shocked to chase her immediately. Still, to be safe, she’d run with everything she had, knowing this café was nearby.
So, it was both an unlucky and a lucky day—she had managed to escape danger.
Once she caught her breath and was asked again, she hesitated but eventually recounted the incident. She ended by urging the owner to keep it a secret—today’s incident had been a chance encounter, and as long as she stayed careful, it wouldn’t happen again. Besides, she had already taught them a lesson.
There was a reason she wanted the owner to keep quiet—Su Ruo absolutely didn’t want Xi Yuechen to find out. The owner, Wang Xuan, was married to a regimental commander under Xi Yuechen’s command. She’d only met them through Xi Yuechen, which is how they’d become familiar. If Wang Xuan told her husband, Xi Yuechen would definitely hear about it.
“There are really people like that out there? He dared to lay hands on you—that’s outrageous. No way, this can’t be kept quiet. He needs to be taught a lesson! We can’t let this go, and if it happened once, it could happen again. Besides, you’re… he’s not going to just let this go!”
Wang Xuan frowned, angry and frightened. If Su Ruo hadn’t escaped, who knew what could’ve happened? The consequences were unthinkable.
“No way… I’ll just be more careful in the future. He wouldn’t dare come after me again, would he?” Su Ruo was still out of breath.
“Hey, don’t tell your Luo Jian about this, okay? Don’t let my husband—the chief—find out. Promise you won’t rat me out,” Su Ruo half-joked.
Wang Xuan frowned. “That’s not betrayal. You’re underestimating how dangerous guys like him can be. Telling Commander Xi is the right thing to do! Even if you don’t tell him, at least tell Su Heng. You can’t take this lightly.”
“Okay, okay. As long as you don’t tell Luo Jian, I’ll call Su Heng later,” Su Ruo said, brushing it off. She was still conflicted inside, but since it was just a chance encounter and she’d already punished that jerk, she doubted he’d come after her again. No need to make a big deal out of it.
Unfortunately, Su Ruo’s optimism was far from reality.
On the way home, Wang Xuan insisted on personally driving her, refusing to leave until she was safely inside. No matter how much Su Ruo tried to dissuade her, it was useless.
Since Su Ruo said she’d tell Su Heng and the others, Wang Xuan decided not to interfere—no point in annoying anyone.
FL is stupid and I don’t like her.
