RMM – Chapter 36 Thrilling

Rebirth: A Military Marriage 8 min read 37 of 365 19

Xie Yuechen had been gone for twelve days.

Su Ruo lay idly on the sofa, holding a fashion magazine in her hand, flipping through it listlessly, a bored look on her face.

“Ugh… so boring.” She put the magazine down and mumbled with her face buried in her hands.

This state had lasted for several days. Other than reading books or watching TV and browsing the internet, she’d either hang out with He Wen and the others or pay a visit to Zhengjiayuan or the military compound. After visiting Su Heng’s school a few times, the initial enthusiasm wore off, and she stopped going. It wasn’t like Su Ruo had nothing to do, but she just felt empty inside, unable to muster any interest in anything.

She tossed the book aside, unable to take it anymore. She got up, went into the bedroom, found a dress, changed out of her loungewear, grabbed her bag, and walked out. She just couldn’t stay cooped up in the house anymore—might as well go out for a walk.

At that moment, Su Ruo had no idea that she’d already been targeted—they were just waiting for her to act alone.

“Brother Rong, she’s out, she’s out!” a man said excitedly on the phone.

“Really? Then keep following her. I’m coming right over.”

The so-called Brother Rong, namely Hong Shirong, instructed excitedly.

Ever since he’d caught a glimpse of her at the school, Hong Shirong couldn’t eat or sleep for thinking about Su Ruo. He had assumed she was a freshman, so the next day he rushed around with people, checking every freshman class and asking everyone he could, but it was as if she had vanished into thin air. Later, he heard that a beautiful woman occasionally attended an economics elective in the finance department, so he camped out in class, hoping to bump into her—but she never showed up. When he asked people in the class, they had seen her, but told him to ask Su Heng.

He would’ve asked Su Heng—if only he could run into him! And even if he did, did he even have the face to approach a campus figure like Su Heng to ask about a woman? They were from two entirely different worlds. Su Heng looked down on people like him, and he didn’t even dare approach.

And so, the search for Su Ruo came to a halt. Until one day, while wandering the streets, Hong Shirong unexpectedly saw Su Ruo shopping with He Wen and Duan Wei. He was overjoyed—talk about searching high and low only to find it by chance!

He didn’t dare approach recklessly and instead quietly followed them for an entire afternoon. Finally, when they split up and drove off separately, Hong Shirong jumped into a cab to tail Su Ruo and discovered where she lived.

Seeing her driving an expensive BMW and living in a luxurious neighborhood, and thinking of Su Heng, he naturally assumed Su Ruo was Su Heng’s hidden lover.

He hadn’t expected Su Heng, who appeared so proper, to be the same as any ordinary man deep down. But thinking about it, it made sense—who wouldn’t want to have a beauty like her? What’s a little money?

He waited at Jingyue Mansion’s gate for several days but never saw Su Ruo come out—not even Su Heng visited. Disappointed, he couldn’t help but secretly rejoice: looks like Su Heng wasn’t all that invested in her. That suited him just fine—otherwise, he wouldn’t even dare make a move.

But for the past couple of days, Su Ruo hadn’t stepped outside at all. Hong Shirong couldn’t take it anymore after waiting two days and sent his lackeys to keep watch. The moment anything happened, they were to call him.

As for why Hong Shirong was so obsessed with Su Ruo—it was the classic male weakness: the unattainable always held allure. It wasn’t just obsession, but a refusal to accept defeat. Had Su Ruo thrown herself at him from the start, who knows how things would’ve turned out?

Now that he heard Su Ruo had finally appeared, he immediately pushed away the girl clinging to him and rushed out.

After coming out, Su Ruo had no destination in mind. She didn’t call Su Heng or He Wen, just wandered aimlessly along the street. But then, a few uninvited guests appeared before her. When she looked closely, her face fell.

Su Ruo had a sharp memory for the kind of men who publicly harassed her on Su Heng’s campus that day. Recognizing them at once, her expression darkened. Without a word, she turned and walked away—she didn’t want to start anything she couldn’t finish.

Unfortunately, things didn’t go her way. She had barely taken two steps before someone behind her grabbed her arm. “Hey, pretty girl, don’t leave so soon!”

“Let go!” Su Ruo shook off the hand on her arm, furious.

“Heh, don’t be mad, sweetie. Ever since we parted that day, I’ve been thinking about you day and night. Fate brought us together again today, right?” Hong Shirong pretended to be suave, with his hands tucked in his pockets.

He’s seriously sick. Su Ruo resisted the urge to roll her eyes.

“Sorry, but I’m not interested in fate with you. Goodbye.” She didn’t want to waste time on him. As she turned to leave, she was pulled back again. Two more men moved in to surround her.

“Why are you in such a rush? Let’s talk. Whatever Su Heng can give you, I can give you ten times more. That’s pocket change to me.” Hong Shirong said proudly.

Su Ruo was speechless. She finally understood his mistaken assumption about her and Su Heng. She sneered, “There’s nothing for us to talk about. Please move—I’m leaving.”

“No can do. What’s so great about Su Heng that you’d cling to him so desperately? He’s just playing around. If you come with me, I guarantee you’ll have a better life.”

Su Ruo, now furious, tried to shove him away. But instead, Hong Shirong seized her hand, and she couldn’t break free.

“Let go! Have some decency!” Su Ruo’s face turned red with rage and embarrassment from the stares of the people around.

“I told you, don’t be in such a hurry. Be nice and we can have a good time talking.” Hong Shirong was getting irritated too. No woman had ever treated him like this. Wasn’t this outright disdain? He was already frustrated about always being beneath people like Su Heng—and now even Su Heng’s woman dared to look down on him?

He gripped Su Ruo’s hand even tighter and sneered, “What, you think you’re special just because Su Heng toyed with you for a few days? Don’t make me take you right here and now!”

Now Su Ruo panicked. She couldn’t break free. She turned, wanting to call out for help, but Hong Shirong shouted at the bystanders, “What are you looking at? Can’t a man discipline his own woman?”

Faced with the thuggish glare of Hong Shirong and his two lackeys, the passersby averted their eyes and quickened their steps—no one wanted to get involved.

“I’m not his woman! I don’t even know him!” Su Ruo cried out.

But who cared? Even if she truly didn’t know them, with her beautiful face, she was the classic damsel in distress—and no one wanted to play the hero and get dragged into trouble.

Seeing this, Su Ruo’s heart sank. She glared hatefully at the smug Hong Shirong. “What do you want?”

“I don’t want anything—just want to be friends. But if you’re offering more, I wouldn’t say no. Haha…” Hong Shirong leered, lowering his voice to whisper filth into her ear, and then burst out laughing with his buddies.

Su Ruo was so furious, she couldn’t even feel fear anymore. She glared at the three men surrounding her and laughed coldly, “Hah… That depends on whether you’re up for it. I’m telling you, I…”

“Alright, alright, no need to waste your breath. No matter what you say today, I’m not letting you go. Be good and come with me—big brother will show you a good time.”

Hong Shirong cut her off and started dragging her toward the car parked nearby. He kept talking as he pulled her along. “Sweetheart, I still don’t know your name. We can swap numbers later, but tell me your name first so I know what to call you.”

Su Ruo was forcibly dragged toward the car. No matter how she struggled, she couldn’t break free. Angry and scared, she stared at the three of them, frantically trying to think of a way out.

“I’m Su Heng’s sister! Let me go!”

“Oh? So now you’ve gone from lover to sister? You wish. You think the Su family would acknowledge a cheap woman like you who popped out of nowhere?” Hong Shirong scoffed and walked faster.

They were nearly at the car now. Su Ruo was starting to feel hopeless. Was she really going to be dragged into the car just like this?
