RMM – Chapter 29 The Lonely Woman Determined to Better Herself

Rebirth: A Military Marriage 8 min read 30 of 365 35

Su Ruo had been spending a lot more time in the study lately.

It had been several days since Xi Yuechen left. Other than spending two nights at Zhengjia Courtyard and going out twice with He Wen and Duan Wei, Su Ruo had stayed cooped up in Jingyue Mingdu the entire time. No matter who called her, she didn’t budge.

In truth, Su Ruo wasn’t just idling around. Over the past couple of days, she had bought a few books on economics and management to supplement her knowledge. After all, she would need it in the future—it wouldn’t hurt to learn. Better than being idle, anyway.

Of course, being bored, Su Ruo would inevitably think of Xi Yuechen during quiet, lonely nights or in sudden flashes of memory. Ever since their last contact that night, they hadn’t spoken again. She did ask Su Heng, but how would he know anything about military secrets? As for asking their father—well, not only would he never say, but with his imposing authority, Su Ruo didn’t even dare bring it up.

So she could only let her thoughts wander briefly, then shake her head and return to reading.

That afternoon, Su Heng only had one elective class—which he could skip without consequence—so he decided to call Su Ruo and ask her to come out for a walk. If she stayed holed up at home any longer, she was bound to grow moldy.

“Sister, come out this afternoon! Your dear little brother will take you for a nice stroll. Staying at home all day, you’ll catch lovesickness!”

The moment she heard that, Su Ruo rolled her eyes and snorted.

“You only know how to talk nonsense. Your sister here is diligently studying!”

“Aiyo, seriously—what are you doing locking yourself up all day? Don’t study so hard you go mad. Come on out! I’ll show you the beauty of life!”

Su Heng coaxed her with a shamelessly cheerful tone. He was set on getting her out of the house today.

“No way. What could we possibly do together other than drink and party? I might as well stay home and read.” Su Ruo rejected him flatly.

Su Heng scratched his head in frustration. Why wasn’t she budging? She wasn’t like this before she lost her memory.

“What kind of books are you even reading all day? Are they really that interesting?”

Su Ruo flipped through her book and snorted. “Very interesting. I need to fill this blank mind of mine. How else am I supposed to run Mu You and support myself?”

“Pfft… Support yourself? Don’t you have a husband for that? And it’s not like Mu You needs your management anymore—it’s already been handed off. You’re loaded; isn’t that enough?”

“Hmph, what do you know? Your sister is aiming for big things and big money. Just watch from the sidelines!”

Su Heng let out a speechless sigh.

“Well then, come out with me. I’ll take you to one of our economics classes. It’s gotta be better than you fumbling through books alone.”

Su Ruo tilted her head and thought about it. That didn’t sound like a bad idea. Listening to a proper lecture had to be better than self-study.

“Alright then. Where are you? I’ll come pick you up.”

After Su Heng gave her his location, he stayed put and waited for her to arrive.

Su Ruo hung up, changed clothes, tied her hair into a ponytail, and looked at the young woman in the mirror with a smile. That face—she never got tired of seeing it. No matter how she dressed, there was always a unique charm to her appearance. She looked stunning.

Today’s look: a simple T-shirt and skinny jeans. No makeup, just a youthful, radiant face—she could easily pass for a college student.

She didn’t like to show off. Among all her cars, the one she drove was the most low-key and safest. Thinking of the flashy cars in Mu You’s garage, she shook her head. Just because she had money didn’t mean she should squander it. She couldn’t imagine what her former self was thinking when she bought this BMW—it was so unassuming. Granted, the price had shocked her at the time, but compared to the others, it was modest and practical.

“Get in.” Su Ruo called out as she pulled up. Su Heng had been waiting by a billboard on the roadside.

Honestly, the Su family had good genes. Not only was Su Ruo beautiful, but Su Heng was also a handsome, sunny type—tall and striking, drawing plenty of attention from passersby.

“Sister, I finally see that you’ve truly ‘turned over a new leaf.’ Tsk tsk, you’ve changed completely. What happened to your favorite car? Haven’t seen you drive it once.”

“I didn’t feel like it. It’s my car, after all.” Su Ruo replied, eyes on the road.

Su Heng narrowed his eyes thoughtfully and grinned obsequiously. “Sister, so… you’re just leaving those cars to sit in the garage?”

Su Ruo instantly knew what he was after just by the tone of his voice. With a half-smile, she glanced sideways. “Out with it. Don’t think I don’t know what you’re scheming.”

Su Heng chuckled, unbothered at being caught. Su Ruo had lots of cars and never minded spending on them. Her cars were always the most eye-catching in their circle—envied by all. If she wasn’t going to drive them anymore, letting him borrow one was far better than letting them sit and collect dust.

“Hehe, come on, dear sister… since you understand me, grant me my little wish~” He put on a pitiful expression.

“Hmph. Don’t give me that look. I’m in a good mood today, so you’re in luck. Go to Mu You when you have time and pick one. Consider it a big favor.”

“Really? I can pick any one I want?” Su Heng’s voice rose with excitement.

“If you don’t want one, then forget it.”

“I want it! Of course I want it! I’ll go tomorrow!” Afraid she’d change her mind, he replied in a flash.

As they chatted, Su Ruo’s car soon arrived at A University. Watching the bustling campus gate, Su Ruo couldn’t help feeling a bit emotional. In her previous life, she had longed to attend this prestigious school, but due to various reasons, she had missed out. Who would’ve thought she’d get a second chance—even if only as an auditing student?

Attractive people always drew attention. As the two siblings got out of the car, curious glances followed them. They were unfazed and kept walking.

“Ah Heng!” —a clear male voice called out. Both Su Ruo and Su Heng turned toward the sound.

Not bad-looking. Good demeanor, too. Su Ruo quickly sized him up in her mind. The young man smiled and walked over, giving Su Ruo a brief but meaningful glance before pulling Su Heng aside to whisper.

Though they called it whispering, he didn’t lower his voice much. Su Ruo heard most of it.

“Ah Heng, when did you hook up with such a stunning beauty? And you never told me!” Yu Lianyun teased with a mischievous grin.

Tsk tsk. Such a rare beauty. Absolutely flawless.

“What are you talking about? That’s my sister.” Su Heng answered proudly. He had always felt honored by his sister’s looks and achievements.

“The sister you said got married recently?” Yu Lianyun, the young man, asked in surprise.

“Yeah, what about it?”

“Heh, nothing. Just a pity, that’s all.” A pity indeed. Such a beauty, already married? Otherwise, he might’ve tried his luck.

“Cut it out with your nonsense. My sister belongs to my brother-in-law—nobody else better lay a hand on her.” Su Heng frowned disapprovingly.

“I’m not! I’m not thinking anything!” Yu Lianyun quickly clarified. “Ahem, Ah Heng, aren’t you going to introduce me to your sister?”

Straightening up, he smiled toward Su Ruo.

She returned the smile. She had heard their whole conversation, but didn’t mind. Boys joking around—what could it mean?

“Tch. Sister, this is my roommate, Yu Lianyun. Ahem, even though I rarely stay in the dorm, we’re still technically roommates.”

Su Heng slung an arm around Yu Lianyun’s shoulder as he introduced him.

“Nice to meet you. Since you’re younger than me, I’ll call you Xiao Yu,” Su Ruo said warmly, extending a slender hand in greeting.

“Then I’ll call you Sister Ruo. I’ve heard about you for ages but never got the chance to meet you. It’s an honor today.”

As they let go of the handshake, Yu Lianyun felt a bit nervous. His heart thudded. Sister Ruo’s hand is so soft…

“Sister Ruo, are you here for a visit? Mind if I join you?”

“Not at all. I’m here to audit some economics classes. I’ve always heard A University’s economics and finance programs are top-notch. Finally getting the chance today feels like a dream come true.” Su Ruo replied with a bright smile. She was here to learn—an extra person wouldn’t make a difference.
