When Su Feng, Xi Jian’an, and the others arrived, Su Ruo had already left the operating room and entered her hospital room.
Since Su Ruo came out, Xi Yuechen had been staying right by her side, not leaving for a single moment, and hadn’t spoken a word.
“Fine, I’ll go pick it up myself.”
Hong Shirong sighed inwardly. Since Su Ruo came out of the operating room, Xi Yuechen hadn’t even blinked; he just stared straight at Su Ruo. The intensity of his gaze was chilling. Su Ruo was just lying there calmly—was it really necessary to look so rigidly?
Just now, Xi Yuechen’s phone had been ringing for a long time, but he didn’t even seem to notice, remaining completely still. Hong Shirong had even kindly reminded him, “Your phone’s ringing.”
But it was as if his words hadn’t reached Xi Yuechen at all; his expression remained unchanged… cough, cough—emotionless and indifferent, letting the phone vibrate.
Not long after it quieted down, Hong Shirong’s own phone suddenly chimed. Unlike Xi Yuechen’s vibrating phone, this one rang audibly, cutting through the quiet hospital room and sounding rather abrupt, even slightly loud.
This time, Xi Yuechen reacted. Hong Shirong saw the look in Xi Yuechen’s eyes and panicked, fumbling to grab his phone and quickly set it to silent.
Hong Shirong understood the look—just now, the doctor had said that the patient needed rest and was too tired.
Once Xi Yuechen withdrew his gaze, Hong Shirong quietly exhaled in relief, glanced at his phone, raised his eyebrows, and turned to leave the hospital room.
It seemed that the call Xi Yuechen had missed was from his family… Tsk, tsk, Xi Yuechen didn’t answer, so it got forwarded to him.
The call was from Su Heng, using Zhang Huaqing’s phone. Hong Shirong had assumed it was still Zhang Huaqing, so he answered without any guard. But the moment the caller spoke, his body froze involuntarily.
Damn! How could he forget that Su Ruo had a younger brother named Su Heng?! This voice was unmistakably Su Heng’s!
Cold sweat broke out on Hong Shirong. After what had happened last time, he would never forget how Su Heng and Xi Yuehui’s group had treated him.
He was not prepared to see them again! Yet… when Hong Shirong stammered out the words about Su Ruo’s hospital room, Su Heng had already recognized his voice.
“This voice… why does it sound so familiar?” Su Heng’s voice was a little fuzzy, as if he was speaking to someone beside him. But Hong Shirong clearly heard it, his hand holding the phone trembling violently. Just as he was about to hang up, Su Heng spoke again:
“You’re Hong Shirong?!”
Hong Shirong swallowed hard, thinking: This ancestor… is he going to scold me again? Damn! I’m the one who saved your sister’s life!
“Don’t move from where you are! Try to run and see what happens!”
With that, Su Heng hung up, leaving Hong Shirong panicking and feeling helpless. What the hell—why should I run? He actually spoke to me like this. Shouldn’t he be grateful? I saved his sister!
No wonder Su Heng sounded so harsh. Hong Shirong’s past record made it hard to trust him, and now that Su Heng recognized him, he immediately became furious. That bastard again!
After hanging up, Hong Shirong thought for two seconds. Judging from Su Heng’s tone, it was clear he was ready to beat him up. Standing here was practically asking for trouble! He needed to move to a safer place.
So, two seconds later, Hong Shirong quietly pushed open Su Ruo’s hospital room door and slipped inside.
He was confident that Su Heng wouldn’t dare to act aggressively in the room. Hong Shirong was sure that even Xi Yuechen, at the moment of any commotion, would throw Su Heng out.
A smug sense of security immediately washed over him. He stood cautiously in the corner, careful not to provoke Xi Yuechen.
Why hide in the hospital room instead of leaving the hospital? Hong Shirong would never admit it was because he feared Su Heng’s warning, “Try to run!” He had a clear conscience; why would he flee? That would be acting guilty!
It didn’t take long before Su Heng and his group arrived in full force. Xi Yuechen hadn’t reacted yet, and Hong Shirong was the first to be stunned.
This… this…
He wasn’t surprised by the number of people, nor that most of the men who had beaten him last time were there, but…
Those two people… the ones he had seen on a news broadcast were actually here!
Before Hong Shirong could calm his shock, Su Heng lunged forward, his bloodshot eyes staring fiercely at Hong Shirong, as if ready to tear him apart.
Hong Shirong hadn’t expected Su Heng to act so violently inside the hospital room. Seeing his ferocious approach, a chill ran down his spine. It seemed there was no escaping this beating.
But in the next moment, Xi Yuechen spoke:
“Su Heng, stop.”
It sounded calm, but it carried considerable authority. Su Heng froze, retracting his fist just before it reached Hong Shirong’s face.
Before Su Heng could react further, Xi Yuechen continued:
“Out. Ruo Ruo needs to rest. It’s too noisy.”
Hearing Su Ruo’s name, everyone realized, and Su Heng’s expression changed. Ignoring Hong Shirong, he hurried to the hospital bed, his steps much lighter now.
Hong Shirong let out a long breath of relief. Luckily, he almost got a beating for nothing.
The others, who had just entered, were also startled by Su Heng’s reaction. Then, hearing Xi Yuechen’s voice, they froze—why did it sound so hoarse?
Xi Yuechen looked exhausted, with bloodshot eyes and a pale face. His voice was dry and raspy.
When had anyone ever seen Xi Yuechen like this? Even when Su Ruo was kidnapped last time, he was full of fury, not this drained and dejected. Not even Xi Jian’an had seen his son like this, and he was genuinely shocked.
But this stunned moment lasted only an instant. Their top priority was Su Ruo lying on the hospital bed. Nothing was more important than her.
Meanwhile, Hong Shirong was ignored, and He Wen and the others also didn’t have time to pay him any attention. He breathed another sigh of relief.
When the group gathered around the bed, Xi Yuechen finally moved. Frowning at the crowd, he stood and whispered:
“She’s fine now. She needs to rest.”
Meaning, Su Ruo was no longer in danger, everyone had seen her, and they should leave and not disturb her.
This was Xi Yuechen’s second reminder. Even if people were anxious, they had to exit. After all, the patient had just come from surgery. Even if safe, she was extremely tired. And she had just given birth—she really needed proper rest.
Everyone looked at each other, then at Su Ruo. She lay motionless on the bed, her face pale and lifeless. She looked fragile and drained, and seeing her like this made their hearts ache. They couldn’t do anything, so it was best to leave and come back once she woke up. At least they had seen her and confirmed she was okay.
He Wen, before leaving, glanced at Su Ruo again and suddenly felt something was off…
Right! Her stomach!
He Wen’s eyes widened, staring at Su Ruo’s abdomen. In an instant, his expression froze. Where was her belly?!
Her belly… how was it flat?!
“Ruo Ruo’s belly…” He Wen almost shouted upon realizing.
All eyes turned to Su Ruo’s abdomen, and they saw what was shocking—the bump that had once been there was now completely flat under the blanket!
Everyone’s faces changed drastically, eyes filled with disbelief. The baby… could it be…
Almost everyone’s mind immediately jumped to the possibility that the baby was gone…
Looking at Su Ruo’s weak state and her flat stomach, it was impossible not to think that way. After all, she had been kidnapped before, and Xi Yuechen’s exhausted state made their hearts sink.
“Yuechen… the baby…” Zhang Huaqing asked with difficulty, his face pale. Though he was asking, in his heart he already feared the worst.
Apart from the unconscious Su Ruo, only Xi Yuechen and Hong Shirong knew the truth. The others were starting to look sorrowful, especially Zhang Huaqing, Shen Liang, Su Heng, and He Wen, who quietly wiped their tears.
“In the incubator.”
What?! Everyone, lost in silent grief, was stunned by Xi Yuechen’s sudden words.
Incubator… the incubator?
Of course—the baby!
The first to recover their composure were the two newly minted grandfathers, Minister Xi and General Su. Their expressions changed almost instantly, from heavy sorrow to overwhelming joy.
Zhang Huaqing and Shen Liang couldn’t hold back their tears, wiping them freely, also clearly moved.
Unlike Su Feng and Xi Jian’an, who were fully immersed in the relief that both Su Ruo and the baby were safe, Zhang Huaqing and Shen Liang were still emotional over the danger Su Ruo had endured.
Throughout the night, they had watched little Su Ruo go through so much, with one peril after another. Any single incident could have cost her life—no wonder their hearts were still pounding with fear.
The others didn’t even get a chance to process their complex emotions before Su Heng escorted them out of the room. “I told you, she needs to rest!”
But they didn’t mind leaving—if Su Ruo couldn’t be seen, at least they could see the baby!
The few who were ushered out happily went to find the doctors to see Su Ruo’s newborn.
Inside the room remained the Su and Xi families, along with Su Heng and Xi Yuechen.
After the room quieted down, Xi Yuechen continued watching Su Ruo, ignoring everyone else and not speaking.
Seeing this, the others no longer disturbed him. Xi Jian’an and Su Feng looked at Su Ruo again, sighed, and got up to leave.
Their newborn grandson was their priority; with Su Ruo needing rest, they went to see the baby.
Shen Liang followed—not to see the baby, though she wanted to—but to talk to the doctors about Su Ruo’s condition first.
Su Ruo looked so fragile and weak that it was heart-wrenching. Nobody knew how hard her labor had been, but thankfully, the crisis had passed safely. People were unharmed—this was the greatest relief.
