Su Feng once again tried to abuse his authority.
After hanging up on Hong Shirong, a large group naturally wanted to rush to H Province—especially Zhang Huaqing, Shen Liang, and Su Heng—they were practically itching to appear there immediately.
Hearing that Su Ruo had been admitted to the emergency room, none of them could sit still. Their anxiety felt like their hearts were on fire. Su Heng and He Wen, among others, couldn’t help but start cursing the kidnappers on the spot.
Although Hong Shirong had said he would wait at the hospital and inform them immediately once there was news, Zhang Huaqing and the others weren’t willing to wait. Su Feng and Xi Jian’an also couldn’t relax—they had to rush to H Province as well.
Su Feng wanted to use a military plane again to speed things up, but Xi Jian’an stopped him. After all, this was a critical period. People like them, supposedly high-ranking and influential, never knew how many eyes were watching them. They had to be extra cautious in everything they did, let alone using a military plane twice in a single night.
Though such actions could be big or small, if someone with ill intent seized on them, it could create unnecessary trouble. So using a military plane was out of the question.
The kidnapping of Su Ruo itself was not something that should be publicized. Searching for her overnight was already high-profile enough, and quietly handling certain matters wouldn’t raise too much concern. Naturally, the kidnappers had to pay some price.
If both Su Feng and Xi Jian’an were going to H Province, they really needed to keep a low profile. Otherwise, showing up openly with the whole family on a military plane could provoke reactions from local officials. Worse, if others found out, they could gossip or smear them, which would create extra trouble for them—after all, using a plane for personal matters was risky.
Su Heng immediately called Ban Lai to see if there was a flight to H Province at this hour.
After checking, there was indeed one. So a large group set off for the airport, heading toward H Province.
Of course, they didn’t forget to inform Xi Yuechen of Su Ruo’s whereabouts. Both parties rushed to H Province, hearts burning with worry.
Since it was a military plane, Xi Yuechen had already arrived in H Province while Su Feng’s group was still en route.
Upon receiving the news about Su Ruo, Xi Yuechen immediately had his plane change course toward H Province.
After landing, he drove a military vehicle to the hospital where Su Ruo was being treated.
Along the way, Xi Yuechen didn’t know how he had endured it. His hands never relaxed, gripping the steering wheel so tightly that the veins on his hands were bulging. Even at the corners of his eyes, a hint of redness could be seen.
If anyone were beside him, they would surely be frightened by the intense aura he exuded. It was overwhelming.
Thinking of Su Ruo in the emergency room, Xi Yuechen couldn’t calm down. His heart had never been so panicked before. Something must have happened—otherwise, why would she be in the hospital? The thought sent another jolt of fear through him.
He raced to the hospital entrance, not caring if stopping there was against regulations, leaving the car running as he bolted inside.
Luckily, the vehicle had military plates; otherwise, who knew who might have taken it? Even the hospital security looked frustrated at the sight. Early in the morning, which soldier had time to cause trouble? The car couldn’t be towed, and its intimidating presence was too much to handle. Weighing their options, the security officers eventually drove the vehicle to the parking lot and parked it properly.
While en route, Xi Yuechen had already gotten Hong Shirong’s number from home. Once inside the hospital, he called Hong Shirong to ask for the exact location.
After Hong Shirong gave the location and was about to say something else, the line suddenly went dead. The beeping left Xi Yuechen momentarily stunned. He frowned, set down his phone, sighed, and shrugged helplessly.
“Where is she?!”
Hong Shirong was still glancing toward the operating room when an extremely sharp, urgent voice sounded behind him, startling him.
“She’s… in surgery.” Hong Shirong swallowed instinctively and answered while turning his head.
Xi Yuechen was significantly taller, so Hong Shirong had to look up at him. Seeing Xi Yuechen in person, he instinctively took a step back.
So intimidating…
Whether it was Xi Yuechen’s icy expression or the powerful aura radiating from him, it made Hong Shirong’s heart tremble. This man… was terrifying.
This must be Su Ruo’s husband—the famed Xi Yuechen of the Xi family. In the capital, Hong Shirong had already heard of his reputation. People gossiped endlessly about him—envy, jealousy, admiration, and awe—all mixed together.
Was he really that impressive? Perhaps it was exaggerated. With the Xi family’s influence, fame was not hard to achieve. Hong Shirong had always been somewhat skeptical.
Yet at this moment, seeing Xi Yuechen in person, his earlier doubts vanished. Apart from fear, he realized—the man’s reputation was well-deserved.
The aura alone was overwhelming; his presence exuded an invisible dominance that pressured anyone nearby. Only someone who had undergone extreme trials could reach such a state. No words were needed; he commanded authority effortlessly.
Hearing that Su Ruo was still in the operating room, Xi Yuechen’s expression darkened further. Panic filled his eyes. He didn’t care how this man had saved Su Ruo; he asked immediately, “How is she now?”
Only Xi Yuechen knew how difficult it was to ask that question. He feared hearing bad news. His heart hung in the air, gripped tightly.
“Difficult labor, severe hemorrhaging… currently being resuscitated…”
Hong Shirong hadn’t finished when Xi Yuechen’s sudden expression left him shocked again.
It was clear that Xi Yuechen’s feelings for Su Ruo were genuine; otherwise, he wouldn’t react this way. Hong Shirong even caught a glimpse of Xi Yuechen shivering slightly.
Alright, perhaps the situation was indeed serious… but…
“The doctors say she’s out of danger. The hospital has enough blood supplies, and…” Hong Shirong looked at Xi Yuechen, curious. Su Ruo was pregnant, yet he didn’t ask about the child at all?
Upon hearing that she had passed the danger period, Xi Yuechen finally relaxed slightly, his stiff body easing. He closed his eyes and murmured in relief, It’s okay, it’s okay…
Never had he felt such relief. Xi Yuechen’s eyes even felt a little watery. His little woman was safe… thank goodness, thank goodness…
At this moment, Xi Yuechen was fully focused on Su Ruo’s safety. From the beginning until now, he hadn’t asked about their son—not because he was cold, but because… he had been genuinely terrified, wholly anxious about Su Ruo, completely forgetting about the child.
“The baby is in the incubator.”
Just as Xi Yuechen began to relax, Hong Shirong delivered another explosive piece of news.
…The baby?
The double shock dulled Xi Yuechen’s normally sharp mind. He had been rejoicing that Su Ruo was safe when he suddenly heard news of the little one, leaving him stunned.
“The baby was delivered. Due to premature and difficult labor, he was placed in the incubator. It’s a boy.”
Hong Shirong explained kindly. Seeing Xi Yuechen’s typically stern face now showing a moment of shock, he found it slightly amusing. This man, flustered over his wife and child, looked surprisingly human.
“This… why is Su Ruo still in surgery?”
After the initial shock, Xi Yuechen’s heart immediately returned to worrying about Su Ruo. The child was out—so why was she still in the operating room?
“When we brought Su Ruo in, her condition was critical. The doctors said labor was difficult, so a cesarean was necessary. She may have been frightened and exerted herself violently earlier, which made her condition extremely dangerous. She lost a lot of blood and fell into a coma. The baby almost didn’t make it. The child’s condition is stable now but very weak; Su Ruo is still in surgery.”
Hong Shirong spoke quietly and slowly. Xi Yuechen listened, his heart trembling with fear. His lips, pressed tightly together, had lost all color.
After hearing Hong Shirong, Xi Yuechen’s eyes turned red, his body felt weak, barely able to stand.
He stared at the operating room door, saying nothing, not asking about the baby in the incubator, just waiting for the door to open.
Hong Shirong raised an eyebrow and remained silent, waiting as well.
Time passed, each second dragging on like an eternity, yet also fleeting—each moment etched into Xi Yuechen’s heart, an endless torment.
During this time, Xi Yuechen’s mind wandered. He recalled Su Ruo’s past smiles and frowns, imagined her covered in blood, her pale face full of pain, even envisioning the moment her abdomen was cut during the cesarean.
He couldn’t bear to think further; the pain in his heart was unbearable. All he wanted was for time to pass quickly so he could see Su Ruo, confirm she had endured the ordeal and was alive, safe, and with him.
Waiting outside the operating room became the longest, most agonizing experience of Xi Yuechen’s life—an ordeal he would never forget.
