RMM -Chapter 170 A Blessing in Disguise

Rebirth: A Military Marriage 7 min read 171 of 365 22

Liu Qi was frantic when he heard that Big Brother had been attacked. He immediately summoned all the staff from the villa and rushed down the mountain to support Bai Xiong.

On the way, he didn’t forget to call the others in the Yan Sect, urging them to get to the villa quickly—Big Brother had been ambushed.

In recent years, the Yan Sect had enjoyed smooth development. They had never really had to open fire, let alone be provoked. Now that Big Brother had been hit by a sneak attack, how could they not be furious?

Moreover, Liu Qi knew full well the personnel following Big Brother and the light weapons prepared in the car “just in case.” Those guns were only meant for emergencies; if a real fight broke out, they were nothing more than toys for a child.

No one had anticipated this “emergency,” and under such an unexpected situation, the situation on Big Brother’s side could not be optimistic.

Liu Qi didn’t dare think further. Although he feared the worst, he kept his face pale but calm, repeatedly urging the driver to speed up.

The fact that the attackers dared strike at the foot of the mountain indicated how thoroughly they had planned it—and they were clearly ruthless.

Nothing must go wrong… Liu Qi could only hope that Big Brother would hold on until he arrived, while also blaming himself for being so careless. If only more people had been stationed with Big Brother!

Liu Qi was one of the few who lived in the villa with Bai Xiong and was in charge of managing the staff around him, as well as all villa security measures.

So if anything went wrong during this attack, Liu Qi would be the first to bear the responsibility.

When they reached the foot of the mountain, only Bai Xiong and Xi Yuechen remained from the original group. Numerous vehicles were still in hot pursuit. Seeing the enemy’s convoy from a distance, cold sweat broke out on Liu Qi’s forehead—so many of them!

Judging by the situation, there was no need to guess: the attackers were aggressive, and their firepower was not to be underestimated.

When he saw them pull out rocket launchers, Liu Qi panicked, shouting for the driver to go faster. If those rockets were fired, Big Brother…

But what happened next left Liu Qi dumbfounded. Two people suddenly leapt out of Big Brother’s car, rolling down the hillside.

Seeing this, Liu Qi immediately realized something was wrong and shouted, “Stop the car!”

With a hiss, their vehicles screeched to a halt, barely stopping in time. If it weren’t for Liu Qi holding a communicator and everyone hearing his order, a rear-end collision would have been inevitable.

Everyone was both relieved and confused when Liu Qi shouted again, “Get out! Watch out for explosions!”

Liu Qi wasn’t stupid. Seeing Bai Xiong and Xi Yuechen abandoning the car, he quickly realized this was serious. Suspecting a possible explosion, he rolled out of the vehicle with agility.

Sure enough, as soon as he hit the ground, deafening explosions erupted in succession.

Liu Qi was still some distance from Bai Xiong’s group and reacted quickly, shielding himself before the blasts, so he wasn’t seriously harmed. Flying debris from the vehicles pelted him, causing minor pain, but he had no time to worry about it. He scrambled up and ran desperately toward the direction Bai Xiong had rolled.

Big Brother had jumped there! That spot was perilously close to the explosions, and Liu Qi had only seen them tumble down the hillside—he didn’t know if they had been affected by the blasts.

Nothing must happen to them!

Actually, Bai Xiong was fine, but Xi Yuechen’s condition looked grim. Already shot several times, he had lost a lot of blood, and now the explosions had taken their toll. He had fainted spectacularly.

After rolling down the hill, neither Bai Xiong nor Xi Yuechen dared to slow down. With so many vehicles exploding simultaneously, the power was immense. They rolled as far as possible; risking their lives here would have been foolish. They had barely survived the previous peril.

They rolled fast, but the explosions weren’t slow either. When they reached halfway down the hill, thunderous blasts erupted.

They were inevitably affected by the shockwaves. Although they had created some distance, they were still in the blast center and could not have come through unscathed.

Bai Xiong was lucky, taking no serious injuries. Xi Yuechen, however, had already been shot and now endured the blasts, and the shock caused him to faint.

This time he truly passed out—no pretense. Previously, Xi Yuechen had faked injuries for effect, but flowing blood could not be faked; no one could withstand that unless they were made of steel. The fright this time was entirely real.

The ensuing explosions were authentic as well. Xi Yuechen, rolling slower than Bai Xiong, suffered more severe injuries and then lost consciousness.

Bai Xiong had just breathed a sigh of relief, grateful to have survived, when he realized Xi Yuechen was unresponsive. Struggling to rise, he saw Xi Yuechen had completely fainted, pale and bleeding from his wounds.

Bai Xiong was terrified. Xi Yuechen was his lifesaver today, his benefactor—without him, Bai Xiong would likely have been dead.

Xi Yuechen had to be rushed to the hospital immediately, but Bai Xiong was injured too and lacked the strength to carry him.

Suddenly, he heard someone calling—Liu Qi. Eyes lighting up, Bai Xiong knew help had arrived.

“I’m here, hurry over!”

After Bai Xiong called Liu Qi over, he refused Liu Qi’s attempt to lift him and pointed to Xi Yuechen. “Get him to the hospital! Find the best doctor—today, he is my lifesaver.”

Liu Qi was shocked—this was none other than Cheng Yue. How had he ended up with Big Brother and even saved him?

Curious but obedient, Liu Qi didn’t delay. Seeing Big Brother safe was the priority; they could get Cheng Yue to the hospital afterward.

Soon, the others arrived, helping Bai Xiong up and accompanying them to the hospital.

With such a commotion, the police would surely know soon. Leaving quickly was the priority; any interference would have caused problems.

How to explain the incident to the police was Yan Sect business. It happened at the entrance of the Yan Sect elder’s home; any normal person would find it hard to believe they had no involvement.

Xi Yuechen woke the next day.

“Brother Cheng, you’re awake?”

As soon as he opened his eyes, he heard a familiar voice.

Turning with effort toward the source, he saw Long Ge, smiling with delight.

“Long Ge,” Xi Yuechen greeted, noticing his surroundings and frowning slightly. “Where am I?”

Xi Yuechen’s act was convincing; the smell of disinfectant confirmed he was in a hospital.

“This is the hospital. You were unconscious all day!” Long Ge said, pretending to still be shaken, then grew serious, narrowing his eyes. “I know what happened yesterday. How dare they attack the Yan Sect? I’ll make sure they pay!”

“I was lucky. Thanks to Bai Ge, I survived,” Xi Yuechen said with a faint smile. He didn’t inquire about the attackers; that was Yan Sect business. He was still an outsider.

Whoever attacked had no personal grudge against him; their target was the Yan Sect. Random attackers didn’t interest him.

“Don’t be modest. I’ve heard of your heroic deeds—you’re a great hero now!”

Long Ge was unconvinced. Since yesterday, everyone was praising Cheng Yue for saving Big Brother—truly a benefactor of the Yan Sect.

“You were impressive yesterday. How do you have such skills? You never mentioned it,” Long Ge asked, curious. He had been shaken by yesterday’s events and surprised by Cheng Yue’s abilities. Cheng Yue’s performance even surpassed Big Brother’s professional bodyguards.

Xi Yuechen had anticipated this question. Since taking action yesterday, he expected someone to ask, so he replied smoothly: “When I was in S City, I trained with retired soldiers in grappling and combat—both for fitness and as a precaution. I can handle a few moves now, though yesterday, it didn’t really come into play.”

He explained that training with military personnel was a precaution; staying by Bai Xiong’s side might require real combat, and being exposed could ruin everything.

Long Ge frowned. “Why train with soldiers? There are other ways!”

“It was a friend’s suggestion. Soldiers’ combat skills are reliable, unlike most training schools, which teach fancy but useless moves,” Xi Yuechen explained.

Long Ge nodded in approval. “Having some skill is good.”

Recalling yesterday, Long Ge grew excited. “It was really dangerous. Big Brother says you saved him—he’s very pleased with you. Big Brother personally brought you to the hospital yesterday. You did a great deed!”

Though the incident angered everyone, Long Ge secretly rejoiced. Yesterday, Cheng Yue saved Big Brother—this would ensure his recognition.

Despite the danger, everything turned out fine. Cheng Yue’s injuries weren’t fatal; a couple of days of rest and he’d be back to full strength. This was a true case of “a blessing in disguise.”

Yes, exactly—a blessing in disguise!
