It seemed clear that the enemy truly intended to put Bai Xiong to death. Seeing him almost break through their pursuit, they immediately panicked. Without caring about stealth or subtlety, they unleashed full firepower, gunshots shaking the air.
Xi Yuechen’s face was growing increasingly pale, but his subordinates did not stop moving, dodging attacks left and right.
Even with Xi Yuechen’s excellent driving skills, this chase was pushing him to his limits, not to mention the multiple gunshot wounds on his body, bleeding heavily.
Actually, he could have dodged these shots, but at that moment he deliberately slowed down, giving the enemy an opening.
The wounds, though gruesome and bleeding profusely, were not life-threatening. Xi Yuechen had carefully avoided vital areas, so aside from the blood loss, there was no major harm.
Why did Xi Yuechen intentionally put himself in harm’s way? Simply to settle matters decisively. Since he had decided to use this opportunity to reverse an unfavorable situation, why not go all out and make it more effective?
At this critical moment, Xi Yuechen risked everything to bring Bai Xiong out of danger, undoubtedly saving his life. This not only cleared Xi Yuechen’s own suspicion but also earned Bai Xiong’s trust. Why wouldn’t he do it? Moreover, if he hadn’t acted, he might have ended up dead alongside Bai Xiong. So by breaking through while bringing Bai Xiong along, he achieved two goals at once.
When he got back into the driver’s seat, Xi Yuechen had another idea: to slow his movements deliberately, exposing himself to enemy fire but keeping vital areas safe, letting the enemy land a few shots.
If Xi Yuechen had come through this unscathed, it would have looked suspicious. How could a businessman, just entering the underworld, appear so skillful in such a situation? A few scratches made it more believable, more shocking to Bai Xiong—a calculated display of self-sacrifice to impress him.
Thus came the scene that followed. Bai Xiong looked at the blood-stained seat beneath Xi Yuechen with a complex expression, never expecting that it was Cheng Yue (Xi Yuechen) who was saving him at this critical moment.
“Brother Bai! Look!”
Just as Bai Xiong was lost in thought, Xi Yuechen shouted with genuine joy. Bai Xiong immediately looked up.
Liu Qi and the others had arrived!
At the moment when Bai Xiong’s car was about to give out, Liu Qi and his reinforcements appeared.
The enemy naturally saw the reinforcements coming from Yanmen. Seeing them closing in, they were unwilling to retreat. After all, how could they explain to their boss that they had taken out only a dozen of Bai Xiong’s bodyguards and a few cars, without touching Bai Xiong at all?
No doubt, a shameful retreat would have dire consequences.
Although Yanmen’s reinforcements were fast, they were still some distance away. Why not seize the chance to fight a little longer?
However, their ammunition had been depleted after the previous barrage—only enough for one last round of fire.
The car was already at top speed, but still a certain distance remained between them and Bai Xiong. That distance, though seemingly small, greatly hindered their shooting, especially with Xi Yuechen zigzagging the car unpredictably, making them miss every shot.
“Faster! Shoot on my command! Don’t let them escape!”
The voice was clearly the enemy commander, eyes wide with fury as he shouted at Bai Xiong’s car ahead.
Damn! If Bai Xiong escaped this rare chance, future ambushes would be impossible. No way—they couldn’t let him get away!
Xi Yuechen kept his eyes on the rearview mirror, noting that the vehicles behind were accelerating but had stopped shooting—obviously realizing they were desperate.
His expression hardened. Seeing Liu Qi and the others approaching ahead, Xi Yuechen floored the accelerator, and the car surged forward.
Bai Xiong’s car, already battered from the chase, logically shouldn’t have accelerated further. But with the pursuers relentless, Xi Yuechen had no choice but to push on carefully.
The car creaked under the strain, bouncing violently. Bai Xiong braced himself, gripping the seat tightly, fearing the vehicle might disintegrate any second.
For the first time, he realized how easy Liu Qi and his team had it—taking so long to cover this distance, as if wanting him to be blown up!
From above, the usually quiet road now looked chaotic. Smoldering wrecks lined the roadside, and three parties were speeding along, each chase thrilling and dangerous.
The firing had stopped, but tension escalated. Xi Yuechen knew the enemy’s intentions and pressed on, ignoring the car’s condition.
They neared Liu Qi’s team, but the pursuing vehicles were also closing in.
Bai Xiong broke into cold sweat, face twisted with fear, cursing that he better not survive today—or he would track these enemies down without mercy.
Closer and closer…
Xi Yuechen focused entirely on the rear. Sure enough, three rocket launchers suddenly emerged from the three pursuers, aimed directly at Xi Yuechen’s car.
They had brought such heavy firepower, intent on killing Bai Xiong completely.
Even Bai Xiong’s fortified car now reached its limits. No matter how much Xi Yuechen pressed the accelerator, the car slowed, heavily damaged. If the rockets were fired now, neither of them would survive.
Three rockets launched simultaneously. The force was catastrophic. At such close range, there was no way to dodge; the car would be caught in the blast.
Xi Yuechen’s eyes sharpened. Scanning the car’s interior, he suddenly focused on something under the passenger seat. A fierce light flashed in his eyes.
“Brother Bai, get ready to jump! Watch out for the explosion!” he shouted, reaching for the object as he released the steering wheel.
The pursuers’ murderous intent surged closer. Bai Xiong, reacting instantly, could only follow Xi Yuechen’s lead.
Seeing the deadly cars behind and Liu Qi’s team ahead, Xi Yuechen gave the order: “Jump!”
At once, they leaped from the car, rolling several times, down the slope by the roadside.
Before they could steady themselves, a massive explosion roared, followed by two more consecutive blasts.
Bai Xiong realized that Xi Yuechen’s warning about the explosion was no exaggeration. They had landed in dense bushes and rolled down the hill, perfectly timed to avoid the blast.
Even in mid-air, Bai Xiong thought: Cheng Yue (Xi Yuechen) was incredible, even choosing the best spot to jump the car.
The road led to the mountains, flanked by dense trees and bushes, left in a mostly natural state. Conveniently, there was a slope beside the road with few trees but thick grass—safe to land on.
Xi Yuechen had chosen the steepest part, ensuring they rolled quickly down the slope, minimizing damage from the explosions.
So Bai Xiong, experienced enough after years in the underworld, understood immediately, rolling without hesitation.
As he jumped, Xi Yuechen stomped the brake, then threw the bomb he had grabbed into the now-stopped car.
The first explosion was Bai Xiong’s car. The subsequent blasts destroyed the pursuing vehicles in sequence.
Their sudden actions completely caught the enemy off guard. Before they could react, their chasing cars hit the stalled vehicles—and exploded.
Bai Xiong’s car exploded—there was no way the pursuing vehicles could avoid it. The enemy never expected such a dramatic twist, with Xi Yuechen’s small bomb nearly wiping out their entire squad before their rockets could be used.
Amid the explosions, the few remaining enemy cars escaped, foolishly withdrawing at full speed, realizing Yanmen’s reinforcements had arrived.
No one left behind—there was no point in fighting now. They either escape or face certain defeat.
