RMM -Chapter 168 A Hair’s Breadth from Death

The enemy had identified their weakness and intensified their attacks.

They weren’t fools. Choosing this location to open fire was only meant to overwhelm Yanmen and secure a decisive victory. They weren’t here to die; they intended a quick, clean fight. Any delay would allow Yanmen’s reinforcements to arrive, rendering their efforts useless.

They had prepared meticulously in advance. At the very least, there was no shortage of firearms or ammunition.

So, before Yanmen reinforcements arrived, their goal was to completely annihilate Bai Xiong’s group, and their assault grew more and more ferocious.

Bai Xiong now had only two vehicles left. The people in the rear car were fully exposed while returning fire, suffering heavy damage and struggling greatly. Moreover, their weapons were standard firearms with limited ammunition. The rear vehicle was practically combat-ineffective.

This left Bai Xiong’s car as the prime target, caught between attacks from all sides. Fortunately, Bai Xiong’s vehicle was top-tier; it had yet to sustain significant damage.

But if the attack continued like this, even the strongest armor could not withstand such a hail of bullets forever. Sooner or later, it would be breached.

Under normal circumstances, they might have been overwhelmed. With unknown timing for reinforcements descending from the villa and uncertainty about Yanmen’s main base, Bai Xiong’s car couldn’t hold out for long.

But this was not an ordinary situation. By sheer luck, Xi Yuechen was in the vehicle, meaning the enemy’s plan might fail.

“Brother, what if the rear car can’t hold on?”

The man in the front passenger seat shouted in panic.

“Shut your mouth, you idiot!” Bai Xiong yelled at his fear, furious. “You useless fool! Even if it can’t hold, make it hold! Or I’ll send you straight to the underworld myself!”

The man froze, terrified into silence, gripping his gun with trembling hands as he focused outside the vehicle.

Bai Xiong himself was uneasy. He could see that they were already at a disadvantage. Only their car was still in relatively better condition. The rear vehicle was a lost cause; if it continued like this, it was doomed.

But he couldn’t just charge recklessly. He couldn’t reveal any weaknesses for the enemy to exploit. The only option was to hold on, attempt a breakout, and wait for Yanmen’s reinforcements.

The driver was visibly nervous. He had never experienced such a scene; his hands shook uncontrollably, cold sweat dripping down. His usually impeccable driving skills were failing him, and escaping seemed nearly impossible.

Bai Xiong’s frustration grew, wishing he could just shoot these two useless people, but he forced himself to endure. Killing them would be easy, but then who would drive?

At this moment, the rear vehicle finally collapsed, coming to a screeching stop. Bai Xiong knew the car was now lifeless.

Only Bai Xiong’s car remained, and the enemy’s attacks grew even more brazen. Bai Xiong felt as if they were mocking him, and his anger mixed with fear. He gripped his weapon tightly, sweat soaking his back.

Damn it—was today really the day he would die here?

Xi Yuechen, meanwhile, kept his eyes fixed on the enemy’s movements. Their car couldn’t last much longer.

Suddenly, a dark weapon emerged from the enemy vehicle. Xi Yuechen’s eyes narrowed—it was a rocket launcher!

Two hits from a rocket launcher—what car could withstand that?

In the nick of time, Xi Yuechen lunged at Bai Xiong.

“Brother Bai, watch out!”

Just as he did, their vehicle roof was blasted off by the rocket’s powerful fire.

Bai Xiong looked up, cold sweat pouring down his face, paling with fear. This was the real deal—if not for Xi Yuechen diving on him, his head might have gone out with the roof.

Before he could react, the enemy launched another attack. Bai Xiong’s car was now completely exposed, like a convertible with no cover.

The enemy seized the opportunity, abandoning careful aim and sweeping their machine guns across the vehicle. Without a roof, the driver was hit in the head, letting out a muffled groan before collapsing.

In that instant, the driver was dead. The car lost control, barreling recklessly toward a roadside tree. The passenger froze in shock, paralyzed by the driver’s death.

Xi Yuechen’s face darkened as he shouted, “Brake!”

If they hit the tree, survival was impossible.

The passenger snapped out of his stupor, noticing the tree ahead, and slammed on the brake just in time.

The car stopped, but as a stationary target under fire, it became even more dangerous. The passenger, unsure what to do next, looked to Bai Xiong for instructions—but before he could speak, a bullet pierced his head, and he died instantly, eyes wide in a grim expression.

Xi Yuechen sprang into action, flipping the dead driver out of the car and taking the wheel.

In a few quick moves, he was hit multiple times by enemy bullets, blood soaking his clothes. Despite the pain, he continued driving without pause.

Bai Xiong stayed under the seat, safe from the machine gun fire, watching Xi Yuechen with complex eyes, uncertain what he was thinking.

Xi Yuechen’s driving skills were exceptional. He maneuvered the car with precision, swerving and turning so unpredictably that the enemy’s aim went haywire, bullets scattering wildly without hitting anyone.

He quickly brought the car back onto the road and slammed the brake to the floor, then accelerated like an arrow from a bow.

The enemy didn’t expect such a sudden turn of events. Xi Yuechen’s vehicle overtook the abandoned car on the road before they could react.

But they quickly caught up, determined not to let the Yanmen leader escape. The ambush was intended to be decisive, and now with only one car left, they had to press the attack.

The chase intensified, with continuous gunfire creating a chaotic spectacle. The enemy hoped to kill Xi Yuechen and Bai Xiong under this hail of bullets, but Xi Yuechen drove like a slippery eel, zigzagging left and right, making it impossible to predict his path.

Fortunately, the road was wide enough for Xi Yuechen to maneuver freely. Otherwise, the narrow road would have made it impossible to dodge the machine gun fire.

Bullets continually struck the vehicle with a deafening sound, giving the illusion that the next second might be their last.

Even Bai Xiong couldn’t help but break out in a cold sweat, fingers trembling slightly as he raised his head to watch Xi Yuechen drive.

Xi Yuechen’s movements were calm and precise, seemingly unaffected by the hail of bullets. Yet his pale face, lips tightly clenched, and sweat streaming down his temples revealed his intense tension.

“Hold on a bit longer; Liu Qi and the others will be here soon,” said Long Ge, visibly moved as the champagne-colored seats were stained red with Xi Yuechen’s blood.

“Yes, Brother Bai. Don’t worry. I’ll do my best to get us through,” Xi Yuechen replied without looking back, voice trembling slightly but resolute.

Bai Xiong noted the trembling, unsure if it came from fear or pain, but he knew now was not the time to question it.

The enemy grew increasingly reckless, their machine gun fire becoming more erratic. They realized time was critical—every second allowed Bai Xiong a sliver of survival. With the villa drawing closer, waiting for reinforcements would make attacking at their doorstep futile.

They escalated further, retrieving a rocket launcher and firing it at Xi Yuechen’s vehicle.

Xi Yuechen observed their actions through the rearview mirror. When he saw the rocket launcher, his expression darkened. He maneuvered the car with even more agility, preventing the enemy from targeting him.

Several rockets were fired, but none hit Xi Yuechen’s car. The vehicle swayed under the impact, appearing as if it might collapse at any moment.
