I immediately stepped forward and caught Yu Qi before she collapsed.

I quickly helped her to the side of Daoist Master Yu’s bed and asked if she was alright.

Although her face was deathly pale and she looked extremely weak, she thankfully hadn’t passed out.

Tears began to flow from her eyes again.

“Even though I don’t understand what’s really going on… it’s obvious now that all of this is my fault!”

“It was me… I killed Li Fei, I killed my best friend, and I almost killed my dad…” She cried as she spoke, and then started hitting herself, as if she wanted to vent all her guilt onto her own body.

“Qi Qi, don’t do this. It’s not your fault. You didn’t want any of this…” I was racking my brain for words to comfort the poor girl, when suddenly a cold gust of wind rose from nowhere and slammed the door shut with a loud bang.

And immediately after, I saw it again in the center of the room—the black shadow reappeared. The mad Daoist with disheveled hair, holding the ancient sword, manifested once more. Dragging the blade along the ground, it charged straight toward us, producing a piercing scraping sound.

I froze for a moment under the sudden danger. It wasn’t that the thing was especially terrifying—I just couldn’t understand it. I had clearly burned the remaining sword hilt earlier, so why could this entity still appear?

The ghost rushed toward us, raising its sword and thrusting directly at Yu Qi’s heart. I cursed under my breath and shoved her aside with all my strength.

The blade only grazed her clothes and missed her entirely—but my hand wasn’t so lucky.

A sharp cut opened on my right wrist, and pain shot up my arm instantly. I staggered up and grabbed the wound with my left hand.

Seeing that I had ruined its attack, the entity didn’t hesitate. It roared and swung the sword horizontally, trying to cleave me in two.

Luckily, I reacted quickly enough—I grabbed a pillow from the bed to block the strike and immediately retreated to create distance.

I hadn’t expected its strength to be so overwhelming. That single slash actually cut the soft pillow clean in half.

At that moment, Liu Xiaopeng seemed to hear the commotion and kicked the door open.

The moment the entity heard him, its attention shifted immediately. It raised its sword again and charged at him.

Taking advantage of the opening, I picked up Yu Qi from the bed and moved her outside.

“The Three Realms and ten directions, only the Dao is supreme. Golden light protects my body!”

Liu Xiaopeng reacted quickly. Just as the entity reached him, he recited the Golden Light Mantra. The sword struck the barrier of golden light and was forcibly rebounded.

At that moment, I had already flashed behind the entity.

“Qian descends essence, Kun responds, sun and moon resonate, Supreme Spirit Sword—manifest and command all directions!”

I quickly chanted, and within the void in front of me, a golden spiritual sword materialized out of thin air—the Sword Manifestation Spell was complete.

If you like swords, then I’ll counter you with one!

The golden sword formed instantly in my right hand. I swung it to block the entity’s attack, then shouted to Liu Xiaopeng, “Take Yu Qi and leave!”

Liu Xiaopeng immediately picked her up and prepared to rush toward the main hall of the temple.

But the entity would not let up. Although it was parasitic within Yu Qi’s mind… her overwhelming guilt and self-blame were now influencing it, making Yu Qi its only target for killing.

It instantly appeared in front of Liu Xiaopeng, blocking his path, and brought its sword down at him.

I stepped forward again and sent my spiritual sword flying straight at its head.

With a thunderous impact, the golden sword pierced through the entity’s head and blasted it backward into the main hall.

The Daoist temple hall enshrined the Three Pure Ones’ statues, a place of solemn sanctity. The moment the entity was thrown inside, the atmosphere changed.

Golden light flickered into existence all around the hall, similar to the Golden Light Mantra Liu Xiaopeng was using. The light continuously eroded the entity’s body, forcing out agonized roars until it finally had no choice but to conceal itself.

Only then did I remember—Yu Qi had once mentioned in police footage that this entity might be able to turn invisible.

After it disappeared, the golden light in the hall faded as well, and we could no longer see it.

But the ancient Taiji sword itself now hovered in midair and flew straight toward me.

“I already burned the hilt… what exactly is going on?” I muttered while blocking its attacks.

“Did we miss something?” Liu Xiaopeng stared at the sword fighting me. “Could the blade still exist?”

“That can’t be. If the sword were intact, it wouldn’t have been broken down and repurposed into a peachwood sword!” I said through gritted teeth as I blocked another strike.

The entity continued relentlessly. I tried different spells to destroy it, but although the sword form scattered several times, it would soon re-form again.

After dozens of minutes of intense fighting, the sword finally saw no opportunity and broke away from me, shooting into the center of the hall.

It hovered for a moment above the Three Pure Ones statues, then suddenly dropped into the hands of the central statue of Yuqing Yuanshi Tianzun.

My heart sank.

Before I could react, the enormous statue’s eyes suddenly flickered with a faint, eerie light.

Then, the statue actually lifted the ancient sword, stepped down from its pedestal, and walked toward us.

BOOM!

The statue was over two meters tall. Its massive footstep shook the entire hall like a giant.

“Run!” I shouted in shock, turning to flee the hall.

I never expected this entity to be able to control a statue of Yuanshi Tianzun inside such a sacred Daoist hall. This was outright blasphemy.

But then I suddenly remembered—this entity had once been a Taoist practitioner in life. Could the ritual of summoning gods have been etched into its very soul after death?

But there was no time to think. The commotion had already alerted everyone in the temple. Many weak-minded Daoists fainted upon seeing the “manifested” statue of Yuanshi Tianzun.

Everyone retreated into the courtyard, but the possessed statue continued its pursuit. However, the doorway of the hall was too narrow for its massive body.

The statue got stuck at the entrance, only managing to extend one arm holding the sword.

And at that moment, I realized—the sword had grown significantly larger than before.
