The front gate of the Daoist temple’s main hall was smashed by the statue, producing a deafening crash. After only two impacts, the statue had already shattered the doorframe along with part of the surrounding wall.
The once solemn and majestic statue—adorned with ceremonial red decorations just moments ago—was now covered in dust, making it look eerily sinister.
Crawling, the statue made its way out into the courtyard, trying to rise again. The courtyard was crowded with people… if it were to run wild here, countless innocent lives would be endangered.
With a thought, I noticed many talismans scattered inside the collapsing main hall. I immediately drew them toward me with spiritual energy, forming hand seals as I guided the talismans to stick all over the statue. In the next instant, I carved out a binding spirit formation in midair.
The moment the formation took shape, the statue’s raised arm froze in midair. Yet even so, it still looked as if it could strike down at any moment.
“Hurry and think of something! I can’t hold this much longer!” I gritted my teeth, sustaining the binding formation with my spiritual energy as I turned to shout at Liu Xiaopeng.
At that moment, I already felt the evil entity struggling against me. The statue’s sword arm began trembling slightly, desperately trying to bring the blade down.
I was standing directly in front of it—if that strike fell, I would likely be cleaved cleanly in two.
Liu Xiaopeng, at a complete loss, suddenly noticed something hanging from the neck of the nearly unconscious Yu Qi.
We had all seen the red cord around Yu Qi’s neck with a pendant, but the pendant itself had been hidden under her clothes, so we hadn’t noticed it clearly before. Now, in the chaos, it had slipped out.
“Where did this Eight Trigrams plaque come from?” Liu Xiaopeng grabbed the pendant from Yu Qi’s chest and shouted.
I couldn’t help but look over and was instantly shocked. Then I looked up at the ancient sword in the statue’s hand and noticed something: near the junction of the blade and hilt, there was an empty recess. Its shape perfectly matched the Eight Trigrams copper plaque on Yu Qi’s chest.
“My father gave it to me…” Yu Qi said weakly.
“Quick! Burn it!” I shouted at Liu Xiaopeng. At this point, I couldn’t care whether it was originally part of the sword or not—there was no time to hesitate.
“Gather your spiritual energy into your arm, explode it in an instant. Imagine your energy igniting the air in your hand.” I instructed him, teaching him how to manifest the flame of the Demon-Burning Fire.
Liu Xiaopeng tore off the red cord around Yu Qi’s neck and tightly clenched the Eight Trigrams plaque in his hand. He took a deep breath, closed his eyes, and began channeling his spiritual energy.
I watched for a long time, but there was still no movement from his hand. I was sweating anxiously.
At that moment, most of the talismans on the statue had already fallen off. My spiritual energy was rapidly draining as well. The statue’s sword arm trembled even more violently. I gritted my teeth, but I could no longer withstand its force. The binding formation shattered in front of me like glass.
The spiritual sword in my hand also shattered into countless fragments of light, vanishing into the air.
And at the same moment, the evil entity controlling the statue broke free. The giant sword in its hand came crashing down toward me.
“Liu Xiaopeng!” I roared, blood surging in my chest.
“Ahhh!!”
Liu Xiaopeng suddenly opened his eyes and let out a sky-shaking roar. Blue Demon-Burning Fire erupted from his hand. Under the flames, the Eight Trigrams plaque rapidly melted and deformed, eventually turning into powder that dispersed into the air.
A strand of black smoke rose from the statue’s head. It let out a painful howl and, just like the plaque, turned into dust and vanished.
The massive statue of Primordial Heavenly Lord went rigid in an instant. The eerie light in its eyes faded away, and the sword in its hand disappeared as well.
But even without the control of the evil entity, gravity still took effect. The statue’s massive body swayed and began to collapse toward me at terrifying speed. My heart sank.
With only the remaining spiritual energy in my body, I quickly activated the Golden Light Spell without any hand seals or incantations. But the Golden Light Spell could only protect me alone. The unconscious Daoists lying in the courtyard were about to be crushed into meat paste.
I was helpless.
The statue slammed into my Golden Light barrier. I tried to hold it back with its resilience, but it was useless. After staggering twice, it rolled toward a Daoist lying nearby.
I had already closed my eyes, unable to bear seeing what would happen next.
But suddenly, a wave of heat rushed toward me. My Golden Light Spell was somehow broken.
A burst of golden flames engulfed the entire statue in an instant. I squinted and looked into the flames—and saw the silhouette of a beast.
The beast seemed to merge completely with the golden fire. It had a dragon-like head and a fish-like tail, with four powerful claws beneath its body. Standing in the flames, its scales shimmered with golden light. The fire just now had been spewed from its open mouth.
In an instant, the massive statue turned into black ash and dispersed.
The beast withdrew its flames and seemed to glance at me once before its body flickered and vanished.
Only then did I see Liu Xiaopeng collapse from the sky where the beast had stood. I rushed forward and caught him.
Everything that had just happened felt like a dream. The night had returned to silence, leaving only the ruined courtyard and broken temple walls as proof it was real.
Zhu Zhu, who had been hiding in the side room observing everything, rushed out to Yu Qi’s side. After checking her condition, she confirmed she had only fainted and finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Most of the Daoists had already fled in panic, leaving only those who had been knocked unconscious.
I looked at Liu Xiaopeng’s pale face and couldn’t help but feel relieved that he had been by my side—he had just saved my life again.
“What… was that just now?” Liu Xiaopeng suddenly opened his eyes and sat up, rubbing his temples weakly.
“You… don’t know?” I asked him.
Liu Xiaopeng shook his head in confusion, looking at me as if asking me to explain everything.
“Your bloodline power has awakened!” I said slowly, word by word.
“That powerful beast just now… should be one of the Nine Sons of the Dragon…” I slowly lifted my head toward the spot where the beast had stood, still able to feel the scorching, flame-like aura it had left behind.
