“My goodness… so many people!” Zhang Yuanbao was startled.
“President Zhang, these people showed up last night,” the sales center security guard quickly reported.
“Last night? Why didn’t you call me?” Zhang Yuanbao asked.
“We were mainly worried about disturbing the leadership’s rest,” the head of security wiped away his sweat.
Zhang Yuanbao waved his hand: “Forget it, I can’t blame you for this. But from now on, if anything like this happens, you must report immediately. This concerns the company’s image. Go check on these people, make sure they’re okay. Hand out number tickets and we’ll serve them one by one. Also, have the sales staff go to the supermarket and buy food and drinks. Hand them out free to our loyal Meishan Auto customers. Customers are God—we must remember that from now on.”
Although it wasn’t business hours yet, the sales center was already busy. Luckily, they had prepared in advance, anticipating heavy crowds. They had made numbered tickets beforehand so customers could line up fairly. Staff would serve people in the order of their ticket.
Tao Donggui got number 370, while Zhao Jiming received number 371.
“Excuse me, can I pick up the car today?” Tao Donggui asked.
“There shouldn’t be any problem,” the salesperson nodded.
“That’s good.” Tao Donggui smiled.
“Don’t worry,” Zhao Jiming said, “even if it’s hundreds or thousands of cars, they’ll all be delivered today. The only issue is we can’t get temporary plates from the DMV today.”
“That’s no problem. After we process your insurance here, the DMV’s temporary office right here can issue your temporary plates immediately. We already coordinated with them. So you don’t need to worry about that,” the salesperson reassured with a smile.
“That’s excellent. I’m planning to drive back to Beijing—looks like it won’t be a problem.” Tao Donggui grinned.
“Then I can drive mine back too,” Zhao Jiming said happily.
Meishan Group shocked everyone by opening at least one 4S dealership in every provincial capital across the country for launch day. This was something Heizmann and Saikawa never expected. In such a short time, to build so many outlets was astonishing—the logistics alone should have been a nightmare, not to mention training staff.
Hardware issues might be easier to solve, but training employees from scratch should have been the hardest part. Yet, what Heizmann and Saikawa never imagined was that Meishan’s 4S dealership staff hadn’t needed training—they were already highly experienced salespeople. Many of them had come directly from German and Japanese car dealerships.
If Heizmann and Saikawa knew this, they wouldn’t know what to think. Meishan Group had planned this well in advance. The sales division of Biyu Immortal Drink understood this deeply—they had learned it the hard way in their own growth. Recruiting elite talent from existing 4S dealerships was no effort at all; it was almost a perfect fit. These dealership elites were experts in sales, with profound knowledge of the market. They understood how disruptive new energy vehicles would be, especially once production capacity ramped up. They were also eager to find more secure positions. That was when Meishan came for them.
The ties between 4S sales staff and the dealerships were never that strong. Since joint-venture cars sold themselves, it hardly mattered who the salesperson was, and 4S dealerships weren’t worried about turnover. Employee churn was frequent and largely ignored. But recently, turnover had become rampant across several big auto brands’ 4S stores—and those leaving were often their star salespeople.
Meanwhile, in order to suppress Meishan, major auto brands also tried to block logistics. The large car transporters were fully occupied hauling their vehicles. Logistics companies didn’t dare offend such big clients, making it seem impossible for Meishan to transport their cars nationwide.
And yet, in a matter of days, Meishan’s new energy vehicles were delivered smoothly to 4S dealerships in provincial capitals. No one knew how. Nobody had even seen large transport trucks carrying Meishan’s cars on highways.
That was because Meishan wasn’t using normal road logistics at all—they used air transport. Zhang Jiaohua directly contacted Lieutenant General Li Zhuocheng, deputy director of the Equipment Department Science and Technology Committee, to obtain flight test permits. This allowed them to fly in non-commercial airspace, as long as routes were filed with the military and monitored by air force pilots.
Li Zhuocheng eagerly approved, for a simple reason—he wanted to see what Meishan would come up with this time. Last time, he had already given Meishan a massive procurement order. This time, he wanted to give an even bigger one—but only if their technology proved worthy.
The result delighted him. Meishan had developed a strange but massive flying craft. It could fly at low altitudes with extreme stability, with enormous carrying capacity—able to load fifty cars in a single trip. Its speed wasn’t slow either. Most importantly, it made virtually no noise, which allowed nighttime deliveries to go completely unnoticed. Without their required reports to the military, these craft would not have shown up even on radar. On top of that, the craft had powerful camouflage abilities, fooling the naked eye in flight.
Li Zhuocheng immediately thought of its military applications. With some modifications, it could be invaluable for troop transport or carrying military equipment. It might even serve as an airborne combat platform. It couldn’t carry fighter jets, of course—but as a mobile UAV carrier platform, it could unleash terrifying combat power.
Zhang Jiaohua never expected that delivering new energy cars would once again draw military attention. Seeing Li Zhuocheng, he could only smile helplessly.
“Dr. Zhang, we meet again,” Li Zhuocheng greeted with a smile.
Thus, Meishan Group entered into a new field of close cooperation with the Equipment Department.
The first day of Meishan’s car launch was an overwhelming success. By the end of day one, every 4S dealership, including the Bijiang sales center, had completely sold out their inventory. Even in Bijiang, Meishan couldn’t transport all the cars stockpiled in its warehouse to the center in time. After delivering three thousand vehicles, the sales center could only begin taking pre-orders.
