“All here. I brought a total of fifteen Ganshan dogs. After a period of training, I found that they couldn’t reach the standard abilities of regular police dogs at all. Their combat power is even worse. How could such dogs be Ganshan dogs?” Zhu Kaixun walked into a secluded corner of the police dog squad. It felt more like a prison for dogs than a dog breeding ground. The living conditions here were much worse compared to those of the police dogs.
“With these conditions, you still want to raise Ganshan dogs?” Luo Changjun immediately saw the problem.
“How could I dare to raise them with the police dogs? Wouldn’t they all get bitten to death by the police dogs? Besides this place, there was no other space in the police dog squad. This place used to house police dogs, but after new dormitories were built for the police dogs, this place was abandoned. When I went to get these Ganshan dogs, I cleared out this place for them.” Zhu Kaixun shook his head with a bitter smile.
Zhang Jiaohua disdainfully said, “You’re the owner, yet these dogs don’t wag their tails at you. This shows that you are a very poor owner. Even if you can’t raise Ganshan dogs, the dogs you raise shouldn’t be in such poor condition.”
“Jiaohua is right; a dog reflects its owner.” Luo Changjun also took the opportunity to criticize Zhu Kaixun.
Zhu Kaixun couldn’t do anything about Luo Changjun, so he just smiled bitterly, “There are fifteen adult dogs and twenty-three puppies here. If you need them, you can pick any you want. Big or small, it doesn’t matter.”
Zhu Kaixun was actually a bit reluctant, but he knew that prolonging the pain wouldn’t help. These dogs were somewhat strange. They used to be very affectionate when Zhu Kaixun visited, but now they didn’t even bother to look at him. Although these dogs were animals, they also had their own inner world. Since Zhu Kaixun decided to abandon them, he had hardly visited this place.
“These adult dogs have been ruined by you. Taking them back would be useless. Besides, Uncle Luo’s car can’t hold them. These puppies are still decent; I’ll take as many as you can give.” Zhang Jiaohua wanted to follow the ratio set by his ancestor for the twenty-four hunting dogs, but he knew it wasn’t necessary to stick strictly to the ratio. Perhaps his ancestor couldn’t gather twenty-four top-quality dogs either. Moreover, the number didn’t have to be exactly twenty-four.
“If you want them, you can take all of them. I have to send these dogs away sooner or later. Without funding, I can’t afford to keep them.” Zhu Kaixun’s eyes turned red as he spoke. He still had some affection for these Ganshan dogs.
“Jiaohua, didn’t you only need twenty-four dogs? You already have five at home, so you just need nineteen more. But it’s unfortunate that we can’t maintain the color ratio.” Luo Changjun was worried that Zhang Jiaohua, in a moment of childishness, would take all these puppies home, adding more burden on himself.
“Why don’t you just pick a few?” Zhu Kaixun also felt awkward asking Zhang Jiaohua to take all the puppies.
“No, I’ll take all these puppies. With so many puppies, I can soon raise the twenty-four hunting dogs.” Zhang Jiaohua was very determined.
Zhu Kaixun exchanged a glance with Luo Changjun, who smiled bitterly and shook his head, “Don’t look at me like that. I can’t make decisions for this child. Since he said he’ll take them all, then give them all to him. Let him figure it out.”
Zhu Kaixun was a bit puzzled but still said, “Take them all then. No matter what, don’t mistreat them.”
Although Zhu Kaixun wasn’t very good at socializing, he wasn’t completely devoid of human feelings. He warmly invited Zhang Jiaohua and Luo Changjun to have a meal, and of course, Luo Changjun wouldn’t leave without eating.
After the meal, they faced a problem when they went to catch the puppies. The puppies hid in their mothers’ cages and wouldn’t come out, sensing that something was about to happen.
In rural areas, when taking puppies, the owner would usually find a way to distract the mother dog and then secretly take the puppies away. Otherwise, even the owner wouldn’t be spared by the mother dog. Any nursing animal can be fierce when protecting their young, willing to risk their lives to protect their puppies.
Even Zhu Kaixun couldn’t get the puppies out of the cage now.
“What should we do? Why didn’t we think of driving the big dogs together earlier and catching the puppies first? Now it’s really troublesome.” Zhu Kaixun tried to approach a cage, but the dogs inside immediately became furious.
Zhu Kaixun had to give up and shook his head helplessly at Luo Changjun and Zhang Jiaohua, “It seems impossible to get these puppies out today. Maybe you should come back another day.”
“Another day, another day. If I had the time, would I be asking you here? Hurry up and think of something.” Luo Changjun snapped irritably. He wanted to hurry back with the puppies. If someone else got them, he would be furious.
“What can I do? These dogs seem to know that you came for their puppies.” Zhu Kaixun found it strange. These Ganshan dogs were usually very dull; how did this happen?
“What’s the big deal?” Zhang Jiaohua sneered.
Zhu Kaixun pretended not to hear, “Let’s leave it for another time.”
“Shanbao, it’s up to you. If you can’t get these puppies back, you’ll stay here.” Zhang Jiaohua called out.
Zuan Shanbao walked over and suddenly barked loudly, “Woof woof woof…”
Immediately, all the Ganshan dogs’ attention was drawn to Zuan Shanbao. The place fell silent as the dogs stood on their hind legs, their paws resting on the cage bars, watching outside.
Zuan Shanbao barked a few more times, and the puppies started crawling out of the cages one by one. The adult Ganshan dogs didn’t stop them but seemed to look on with longing.
Zhu Kaixun had thought there was no way to give these puppies to Zhang Jiaohua and had felt a bit reluctant. If the puppies hadn’t come out on their own, he would have tried to find a way to keep them. But to his surprise, Zhang Jiaohua’s dog was so impressive. It had truly become a king among dogs.
“Now there’s no problem. Old Zhu, keeping these Ganshan dogs locked up here is meaningless. Why not release them back into the wild and let them truly become kings of the forest? These Ganshan dogs look like sick dogs being kept here.” Luo Changjun felt pity for the Ganshan dogs in the cages.
All twenty-three puppies crowded into the back seat, and Zhang Jiaohua sat in the front passenger seat with Zuan Shanbao. The puppies sat quietly in the back, not making a sound.
“These puppies are really strange, not making a sound,” Luo Changjun said, glancing at them through the rearview mirror.
Zuan Shanbao snorted, seemingly with a hint of disdain, as if answering Luo Changjun’s question, meaning that with it around, how could the puppies dare to act up?
When Zhang Jiaohua returned home with the puppies, it immediately drew the attention of everyone in Meizi Village.
“Jiaohua, are these all Ganshan dogs?” Dumb curiously held a black puppy, wanting to take it home.
“Of course. They’re almost the same breed as Shanbao.” Zhang Jiaohua was very proud. These were brought from the police dog squad.
Zhang Manyin was very angry, but Ma Donghua wouldn’t let him scold Zhang Jiaohua.
“Don’t stop me. I’m going to beat this prodigal child. With the Shanbao, there are now twenty-nine dogs. Do you think raising so many puppies doesn’t cost money?” Zhang Manyin was furious.
“Yes, it costs money, but it’s worth it. These dogs are purebred Ganshan dogs. Who knows, in the future, when all twenty-some dogs grow up, what in the mountains could escape them?” Ma Donghua said.
“You just spoil him. When something goes wrong, you’ll regret it.” Zhang Manyin sighed deeply.
Ma Donghua pouted, “Why would I regret it? Just wait and see. When Jiaohua raises his twenty-four dogs, even wild boars will be caught alive.”
