Leaving Nanjing, Mu Bai maintained a speed of 60-70 kilometers per hour. In just over an hour, he exited the city roads and entered the highway heading toward Xuzhou.
Since it was nighttime and traffic was light, they didn’t have to wait long and were able to grab a ticket and drive straight onto the highway.
“Wow, it’s my first time driving out this late. The night sky in our beautiful Nanjing is stunning,” said Qian Yiwen, gazing out the car window.
The sky was indeed beautiful tonight, with a rare sight of stars filling the winter sky. After admiring the view for a moment, she turned around, grabbed a bag of chips from the back seat, and snacked while continuing to enjoy the view. Occasionally, she would offer a chip to Mu Bai.
“That’s enough, you can eat them yourself. I’m not hungry. Once you’re done, if you get sleepy, feel free to nap in the back,” Mu Bai said, shaking his head as he declined the chip offered by her delicate hand.
“I’m not sleepy. This is my first long trip, and I’m too excited to sleep. How about I drive instead? You can rest for a bit,” Qian Yiwen suggested.
“Are you sure you can handle driving on the highway?”
“Of course! I’ve had my license for over two years now.”
…
After a brief chat, Mu Bai pulled over at a rest stop and let Qian Yiwen take over the driving. He wasn’t tired, but his phone had been vibrating in his pocket, likely with some notifications.
Once in the passenger seat, Mu Bai took out his phone and said, “We’ll stop at the Xuzhou service area later. It’ll be hard to find a hotel in Xuzhou this late, so it’s better to rest at the service area tonight and head into the city tomorrow morning.”
“Okay, that works,” Qian Yiwen nodded in agreement.
The SUV started moving smoothly again, accelerating steadily. It was clear that although Qian Yiwen was a girl, she was a capable driver.
Seeing that she had no problem driving, Mu Bai focused on his phone. It was a message from Mi Xuan on QQ.
It was almost 11 p.m., and Mu Bai wondered why Mi Xuan was messaging him at this hour. He opened their chat.
Mi Xuan: “Mu Hao, are you asleep?”
Seeing the message, Mu Bai typed a quick response.
Mu Bai: “Not yet. What’s up?”
Mi Xuan: “Nothing much, just that Ah Hai, the guy you added to the group yesterday, asked me to check with you. He said a team from YY is interested in joining you. What do you think?”
Mu Bai: “That’s fine, but I’ll need to take a look at their team first.”
Mu Bai welcomed new teams joining, as every new team brought a substantial reward in virtual currency.
Mi Xuan: “Okay, I’ll let him know. He joked that he wouldn’t go to sleep until you replied.”
Mu Bai: “Haha, no need to wait. I’ll contact him directly. It’s getting late—you should sleep soon and stop staying up so late.”
Mi Xuan: “You always care about me, Mu Hao. Thank you! Good night.”
Mu Bai: “Sleep well.”
…
After a brief exchange with Mi Xuan, Mu Bai encouraged her to rest. She had been working hard lately and doing a great job.
Once he closed the chat with Mi Xuan, Mu Bai opened his QQ group “World of Dusty Illusions.”
There were only five people in the group at the moment. He glanced through the chat history and noticed a few formal messages from Hai Qing.
It was clear that the group members were still feeling a bit reserved.
Mu Bai @-ed Hai Qing and typed, “No need to be so formal. Just reach out directly if you need anything. So, there’s a YY team that wants to join? What kind of team is it?”
Shortly after, Hai Qing responded.
Hai Qing: “Mu Hao, it’s a gaming agent team for Wen Dao. They’re not a top team, but one of their streamers is a famous level grinder in the game and has quite a few fans. They also have a wealthy member. If you’re interested, I can let them know.”
After Hai Qing’s message, group members Ah Wen and Xiao Yue also joined the conversation.
Ah Wen @-ed Mu Hao: “Daily worship of our Mu Hao! Mu Hao, mwah!”
Xiao Yue: “Good evening, Mu Hao.”
Mu Bai responded with polite greetings to Ah Wen and Xiao Yue, then turned back to Hai Qing.
Mu Bai: “Alright, let me take a look at their team first.”
Although Mu Bai needed to recruit more streaming teams, they had to be rated by the system. Without a star rating, there would be no virtual currency reward, and recruiting them would be pointless.
Hai Qing, seeing Mu Hao’s interest, quickly sent several messages with the contact information for the YY Wen Dao team’s decision-maker.
Mu Bai: “Okay, I’ll get in touch with them.”
Hai Qing: “Oh no, I can’t let you make the first move. I’ll have them contact you.”
Mu Bai chuckled at Hai Qing’s politeness. Just as he was about to reassure him that it was fine, he received a friend request.
“Hmm? That was fast.”
He exited the QQ group and checked the friend request, which turned out to be from the contact Hai Qing had mentioned.
…
Meanwhile, in a small apartment in Longyun City, Jianghai Province, a young woman in her early twenties lay under her blanket, staring at her phone.
A few seconds later, she saw the notification that her friend request had been accepted. A smile of joy appeared on her delicate face.
“I hope the big spender Ah Hai mentioned can take in our team. Even if we only get enough for basic living expenses, it would be great,” she thought as she opened the chat window, contemplating how to start the conversation.
