Upon returning home, Zhen Shi was not in the living room waiting for Lu Ming, which was unusual, especially since he had said he’d be back tonight, albeit a bit late.

But then he heard some noise coming from Pamela’s room. Pamela was saying loudly, “Boss, Sister Hanzhu is undergoing treatment and insisted on coming to greet you. Look at this.”

He was startled and quickly responded, “Don’t move, don’t move. What’s going on? What kind of treatment? Why didn’t she go to the hospital?” Saying this, He walked quickly and pushed open Pamela’s bedroom door.

Unlike Zhen Shi’s room, which was decorated with traditional elegance, Pamela’s bedroom was very modern, with a large Simmons bed, stylish off-white bedside tables, wardrobes, and even a fashionable alarm clock on the nightstand.

At this moment, however, the lights in Pamela’s bedroom were off, but the Simmons bed was brightly lit.

He looked over and was dumbfounded.

He saw Pamela, Zhen Shi, and the little one, Bess, all sitting together on the bed. In the center of the bed was a circular lamp emitting a ring of light, under which all three of their feet were placed.

“What are you doing?” He asked, bewildered.

Pamela, holding onto Zhen Shi to keep her from moving, laughed and said, “We’re doing a light bath foot therapy. It’s very good for the body!”

He then understood. He had seen advertisements on TV; this was a man-made sunlamp. TV and newspapers heavily promoted its benefits for maintaining and improving human health and functions. These small sunlamps were popular home appliances, fashionable among middle-class families.

He rubbed his nose, thinking it was similar to the deceptive products that emerged in the 1950s in Western countries. In his previous life, such misleading health devices and products only appeared in China in the new century, like magnetic therapy pillows and pulse massage chairs, sounding high-tech and grand.

Reflecting on this, he was about to speak when he was suddenly struck by the sight of three pairs of beautifully distinct feet under the sunlamp. The most exquisite pair belonged to Zhen Shi, translucent like artwork, with pink toenail polish resembling blooming plum flowers, evoking a desire to kneel and kiss, and a feeling of wanting to cherish them for a lifetime. Pamela’s feet, with black toenail polish, often in high heels, had an alluring curve, full of charm and more directly provoking sexual desire in men. Bess’s small white feet, cute and delicate, added a harmonious contrast to the scene.

Seeing me staring at her feet, Zhen Shi’s face turned crimson. Even in front of Pamela and Bess, she was shy. Encouraged repeatedly by Pamela to use the sunlamp, which was said to make her more appealing to her master, Zhen Shi reluctantly and bashfully removed her shoes and socks for the therapy.

Now, caught by her master, she instinctively wanted to cover her feet but stopped halfway, feeling that not letting her master see them meant she wasn’t a good servant. Blushing, she buried her face in her knees, feeling as if her face was hot enough to cook an egg.

Pamela lightly coughed, “Boss, why don’t you join us?” Her enticing feet, with black toenail polish, arched even more seductively.

He snapped back to reality and looked away, “Do you really believe in such deceptive things?”

Pamela retorted, “Even hospitals promote it, and there are ultraviolet lamps too. Maybe I’ll check if they sell them separately. It seems only hospitals have them.”

He was startled, “Don’t! Although it’s good for sterilization, UV light is harmful to the skin. Didn’t you know that the ozone layer protects us by blocking most UV rays? Without it, humanity couldn’t survive…”

Suddenly pausing, “Ultraviolet lamps? Are they available now?” He stared intently at Pamela.

Pamela was puzzled, “Yes, why?”

“Ultraviolet, ultraviolet…” He muttered, pacing and thinking hard.

Suddenly, Zhen Shi darted past like the wind.

He was stunned. Then Pamela quickly followed, already putting on her crystal slippers.

“Boss, she… she seems to have another… episode…” Pamela shook her head, “I’ll go check!”

“No need,” He said, shaking his head. “I’ll go.”

Maybe Bizhu went out without warning because of some danger outside?

Thinking wildly, He quickly went to the bedroom, opened the nightstand drawer, and took out a small, Browning-like pistol.

He had bought it through Old Ghost. In this world, people of a certain status can legally own guns.

Grabbing the pistol and stuffing a few clips in his pocket, He hurried out. Even if He couldn’t help much, just standing by while a young girl faced danger alone felt wrong, regardless of her strength.

But as soon as He opened the balcony door, a silhouette flashed by, and Bizhu returned, noticing the gun in his hand.

Bizhu was momentarily stunned but then seemed to understand his intentions. Her fierce eyes softened a bit, “Someone wants to repay you. Do you want to send him away?”

Huh? He was taken aback, “Is it old Mr. Sun?” Thinking about it, He tucked the gun behind his waist, “I’ll go take a look.”

Descending the side stairs from the balcony, He immediately saw under the moonlight, by the shadow of a locust tree, a figure in a white shirt and black pants. He walked over helplessly, “I said you don’t need to protect me. Go treat your injuries!”

Hmm? Getting closer, He noticed Sun Lutian’s face was pale, as if he had seen a ghost or encountered something terrifying.

“Mr. Sun?” He waved a hand in front of his eyes.

“Ah? Ah…” Sun Lutian came to his senses.

“I said, you don’t need to protect me. Go treat your injuries,” He repeated helplessly.

Sun Lutian glanced up at the building, showing a look of extreme apprehension, and whispered with a bitter smile, “Master indeed doesn’t need my protection. But I’ve lived over fifty years and never received such a great favor as from you. Let me serve you, Master.”

Seeing his expression ready to refuse, he knelt down on one knee and said in a low voice, “Master, I won’t hide it. It’s not just about repaying a favor. I have many questions only you might answer. I thought I’d never get answers in this life, but today… Master, please, let me follow you!”

Lu Ming scratched his head. You have a lot of questions? Doesn’t he have a lot of questions too?

You want me to answer them? His own head is filled with so many questions that they’re practically curling up.

He reached out to pull him up and said, “If you don’t get up, I’ll turn around and leave!” With his small frame, though better than before, there was no way he could pull the old man up if he refused to rise.

Sun Lutian slowly got up and sighed, “Young master, my limited skills were taught by my great-grandfather. He said that although my aptitude was poor, it was still better than my grandfather’s and father’s. I didn’t understand at the time, but when I had a son and grandson, I realized their aptitude was even worse than mine. Perhaps, this really isn’t the era for martial arts anymore!” He sighed deeply again.

“All these years, my greatest regret has been the fear of facing my great-grandfather after death, because he told me to find a successor and pass on our family teachings.”

“Since I was young, my great-grandfather made me look at a painting. I still have it at home. It depicts a token. Our family rule is that if we see someone holding that token, we must obey their orders as if they were our ancestor, even if it means immediate suicide. This rule is only known to those qualified to learn our family’s skills and is the true heir of the Sun family. Even my grandfather and father didn’t know about it.”

“When I found out none of my grandchildren could inherit my skills, I traveled extensively, hoping to find a talented child. I even thought of buying one to pass on my knowledge, but unfortunately, I never found anyone.”

“Maybe because of this desire, my grandson was kidnapped. There’s a cause and effect for everything…”

Sun Lutian sighed deeply, “I thought I wouldn’t find a successor and that I would take our family rule to the grave, but…” Sun Lutian suddenly looked up at the second floor of the small building, his eyes shining with a strange light, “I never expected to see the holy token that even my great-grandfather never saw in person!”

“My wife would be overjoyed if she knew!”

Lu Ming was taken aback, “Are you saying you just saw the holy token?”

Sun Lutian lowered his head and softly said, “If you want me to leave, young master, I will obey. How dare I defy the holy token? It seems you are friends with the envoy?”

Lu Ming rubbed his nose. By logic, Bizhu would be the envoy in Sun Lutian’s eyes, but he’s not her friend, He’s her master.

So, who is he then?

Looking at Sun Lutian, Lu Ming said, “Go heal your wounds first, and we’ll talk about other things later!”

Sun Lutian immediately looked up with joy. Lu Ming waved his hand, “No need to say more. I won’t promise you anything. Heal your wounds first, and we’ll talk later.”

“Yes, yes! I’ll take my leave now!” Sun Lutian bowed and retreated into the shadows of the alley without turning around.

Returning inside, Lu Ming saw Bizhu standing by the balcony’s glass door and raised his hand, “Hold on!”

Bizhu paused her movement to sit on the sofa, looking at Lu Ming with confused eyes.

“Who are you? And who am I?” Lu Ming stared at her intently.

“When the time comes for you to know, you will know, Master. Otherwise, it will only cause more worry and trouble, and it might even bring calamities that not even I can resolve. Please forgive me for not being able to say more, Master” Bizhu replied and then turned to go to the bedroom. Soon, there was the gentle sound of Zhen Shi waking up with a soft moan.

Lu Ming shook his head. It seemed that Bizhu was not afraid of the mastermind who killed his entire family.

Otherwise, she wouldn’t have said that knowing his identity might bring great trouble.

After all, if the mastermind was after his family’s identity, and his family was almost wiped out without him knowing who he is, wouldn’t it be easier to remain ignorant?

Moreover, Bizhu only truly awakened when we reached Donghai. Before that, at the Wuan court, the Shuanglong almost killed him, and she didn’t appear, likely because it wasn’t yet time to awaken her. She might not have sensed the external danger back then.

Maybe it was spending time with Hanzhu that gradually awakened another personality in her.

Or perhaps Bizhu would only awaken upon reaching Donghai, like being triggered by certain sights under hypnosis?

Grandpa always told him since he was young that Donghai holds the secrets of our family.

But if that’s the case, it’s even more terrifying.

Does that mean his potential enemies are even more fearsome than the ones who nearly wiped out his family?

This is too much!

Back in the bedroom, Lu Ming washed his face in the bathroom. The cold water refreshed him, and he exhaled deeply.

For now, he’ll not worry about what he can’t control, just as Bizhu said. It only adds to his troubles.

Better to focus on the case at hand.

The ultraviolet lamp gave me an idea. Tomorrow, he need to find a chemical expert to verify it.

At present, he have no clue who to approach, so he need to think carefully about this choice.
