After staying at the summer resort for too long, the days became incredibly boring.
Sure, it was cooler than the capital, but there was nothing fun to do. Lin Mo had already played through all the villages at the foot of the mountain. Everyone in those villages knew her now— even the big yellow dogs no longer barked at her, and would instead wag their tails and run toward her.
Lin Mo lay sprawled on her brother’s couch, wailing dramatically. Bai Xiao sat on a stool beside her, propping his chin with one hand, looking at her speechlessly.
As for why she was in her brother’s place—her parents had kicked her out for being too annoying.
Her first stop had been her elder sister’s place, but that annoying guy was there, so she’d run straight to her brother’s residence.
Lin Qi was working in his study, while Lin Mo wailed away on the couch beside him. He didn’t even know what she was wailing about.
“Hey huff, hey huff! I, your daddy, am number one in the world!”
“Xiao Bai, Xiao Bai, calling, calling!”
When Bai Xiao didn’t respond, Lin Mo smacked his forehead with a slap. “Answer me! If you don’t answer, how am I supposed to say my next line?”
Bai Xiao took a deep breath. “Xiao Bai reporting! What are your orders?!”
Lin Mo lifted all four of her limbs. “Come on, carry me! I’m going to go ‘attack’ people. See my legs? Those are your cannons. See my hands? Those are the handles.”
At the desk, Lin Qi’s temple vein twitched violently. He was on the verge of exploding.
These two little terrors—couldn’t they go play somewhere else? Didn’t they see he was working?
Soon, Bai Xiao really lifted Lin Mo onto his shoulder and started running wildly around the room. Lin Mo cooperated enthusiastically, making boom boom boom cannon noises.
“Have the enemies ahead been eliminated?!”
Bai Xiao: “Reporting! Not yet! The enemy remains unmoved! Do we need to increase assault intensity?!”
Lin Mo pointed ahead. “Charge! Increase assault intensity!”
The enemy ahead—Lin Qi—: …
Heavens, could someone please come take these two away? Anyone? Please save him.
The little golden snake hovering on the desk also looked speechless. Lin Qi actually read the snake’s expression.
He picked up Little Gold and asked seriously, “Do you also feel extremely helpless?”
Little Gold nodded very intelligently. Truthfully, when Bai Xiao had opened its spiritual intelligence, the snake had thought these two humans must be impressive people.
People this powerful must also be smart. And since they could raise other people’s IQ, surely they had raised its IQ too—they must be extremely intelligent.
And yet… among the two humans and one snake, it, the snake, had the highest IQ. While those two were unbelievably confident—absurdly confident.
Over there, the two had already gone crazy playing, while the man and snake here were already half numb with exhaustion.
It took Bai Xiao only one minute to go from refusing to play to having the time of his life.
He carried Lin Mo from one room to another, then back again.
To use a modern expression: developmentally challenged children having too much fun.
Luckily, perhaps Lin Qi’s bitterness had finally moved the heavens—someone finally came to save him.
When Princess Hua Yao entered the courtyard, she saw Bai Xiao running around with Lin Mo on his shoulder, both of them completely wild.
The moment Lin Mo saw her handsome future sister-in-law, she shouted joyfully: “Big Sister Hua! Do you want to play with us?!”
Princess Hua Yao looked at the image of Lin Mo being carried like a sack, and the corner of her mouth twitched. “I’d better not. Not many people can carry me.”
Lin Mo happily sold out her brother: “Then let my brother carry you! If he can’t lift you, you can just… look at him instead.”
After all, in her future sister-in-law’s eyes, her brother was like a delicate little fairy—touch him and he’ll break.
Princess Hua Yao picked Lin Mo off of Bai Xiao’s shoulder and set her on a swing. “Let’s not. I’m too old to play like that.”
Please—if she really played like that, the whole capital would laugh her to death.
The moment Lin Qi heard Princess Hua Yao’s voice, he rushed out. She looked like a savior descending from heaven.
“Hua Yao, you’re finally here. You don’t know what I’ve been enduring. These two turned my study upside-down!”
Princess Hua Yao found his aggrieved face amusing. “They like to play. Just let them. Being lively is good.”
The two talked as they walked toward the study, while Lin Mo and Bai Xiao followed behind excitedly.
But just as they were about to step into the study—
Bang!
The door slammed shut in their faces.
Lin Qi’s voice came from inside: “We’re going to discuss official matters. You two go play somewhere else.”
Lin Mo narrowed her eyes and snorted. “Official matters, my foot. Aren’t you just going to flirt? Don’t think I don’t know.”
Bai Xiao: “Exactly, exactly.”
Inside the room, the couple: …
Could these two be any louder?
Yes, they were going to flirt, but they really were discussing business too. One was a civil official and one was a military officer—more communication between the two sides was always good.
Many civil and military officials held prejudices: Civil officials thought military men were crude; Military men thought civil officials were fake.
But after Lin Mo appeared, everyone got along surprisingly better—since they had a new common enemy.
Lin Mo and Bai Xiao guarded the door for a while, but once they confirmed the conversation inside was truly about government affairs, they instantly lost interest.
Serious things were not appealing—they contaminated their brains. So they decided to relocate.
Soon, on a tall tree outside Lin Ran’s courtyard, two people were hanging like ornaments.
Inside, Ji Qianhua was practicing martial arts in front of Lin Ran, each move smooth and handsome. Lin Ran watched admiringly.
Lin Mo, lying on the tree branch, snorted. “He’s totally showing off like a peacock. Come on, let’s climb higher—we can see better up there.”
They climbed even higher. Their view improved—but so did their visibility.
Ji Qianhua had noticed someone watching as soon as they arrived. When he turned, he saw two big heads hanging from the tree.
The branches really were convenient—one low branch for their feet, one high branch for their chins—so from Ji Qianhua’s angle, he saw two giant heads perfectly lined up.
Lin Ran followed his gaze, saw them, paused for a second, then covered her forehead.
Bai Xiao: “Ah—they saw us.”
Lin Mo: “So what if they did? We’re outside, not inside.”
But very quickly the two realized a serious problem— Climbing up was easy. But… how were they supposed to get down?
Were they supposed to activate their “protection mode” and jump? Wouldn’t that… break the ground?
