“Stay in your room and don’t go wandering around.”
Xiao Che warned her harshly before closing the door to Jin Luoluo’s bedroom.
As he walked out through the garden, raindrops began pelting down on him.
His thoughts were in complete turmoil.
Lately, it seemed he was paying more attention to Jin Luoluo than he was to Ruoyao.
“That damned cripple has probably figured out a way to get out by now. Someone as smart as him—if he can’t even deal with a single door, I’d look down on him.”
The wind and rain brought a bitter chill, causing the temperature in the mountains to drop sharply.
Wrapped in an outer robe, Jin Luoluo paced back and forth around her room, unable to fall asleep.
Outside, fierce winds howled.
Rain battered the eaves with loud pitter-patter sounds that were unsettling just to listen to.
“But people say even the wisest person can have a foolish moment.”
“What if tonight happens to be his?”
“Wouldn’t that mean he’d be trapped there all night?”
“It feels especially cold tonight. That place is gloomy and damp…”
“Treating a disabled man like that… doesn’t it seem a little inhumane?”
Jin Luoluo couldn’t help feeling guilty.
Although that damned cripple had treated her badly…
She had probably gone a bit too far herself, leaving him alone in such a place to suffer.
She tried to reassure herself.
“Still… I believe his IQ isn’t that low.”
“He’ll definitely find a way out.”
She flopped onto the bed and stared up at the canopy overhead.
Forget it.
Anyone who bullied her deserved to be punished.
Xiao Luo was no exception.
This was nothing more than a small lesson for him—
A lesson to make sure he never toyed with her feelings again.
She burrowed beneath the blanket and closed her eyes, intending to sleep.
But it felt as though something heavy was lodged in her heart.
No matter what she did, she couldn’t sleep with a clear conscience.
How pathetic…
She still cared about him.
With a sudden movement, Jin Luoluo jumped out of bed.
She rummaged through her luggage until she found a rain cloak and put it on, then grabbed an umbrella.
“Damned cripple, you’re lucky.”
“This young lady has the heart of a bodhisattva.”
“I just can’t bear to mistreat a disabled person.”
She first went to the courtyard where Xiao Luo was staying to check on him.
The attendants told her that Xiao Luo had indeed never returned.
It seemed he really had had a lapse in judgment tonight.
With no other choice, Jin Luoluo braved the pouring rain, carrying a swaying lantern as she hurried through the maze-like imperial residence.
