Muyun tried to recall the details one by one. In truth, everything she knew came from what others had told her, and she possessed no particularly important clues.
“The fourth princess consort contracted some strange illness and passed away after suffering for more than a month. The fifth died after miscarrying. But I refuse to believe that my sister was killed by some curse.”
After hearing about the deaths of all five princess consorts, Jin Luoluo’s doubts only deepened.
People in ancient times believed in ghosts, spirits, and supernatural forces, so they naturally accepted ideas like a man being cursed to bring death to his wives. But as someone from the modern world, she knew such things did not exist. The notion of being “fated to kill one’s spouse” was complete nonsense.
Even if one or two of Xiao Che’s wives had truly died by accident, could all five really have met accidental deaths by pure coincidence?
There was likely something far more sinister beneath the surface.
And naturally, the most suspicious person was Yang Ruoyao.
No one had a stronger motive for murder than she did.
“These deaths are certainly strange. But the brilliance of it all lies in the fact that a fortune-teller had already declared that your brother-in-law was cursed to kill his wives. Every woman he married died, seemingly proving the prophecy correct. If someone really was murdering the princess consorts, that superstition would be the perfect cover. People firmly believe in such things. As long as the killings were carried out skillfully, everyone would simply blame fate and incompatibility rather than suspect foul play. That’s why no one ever questioned the causes of their deaths.”
Muyun’s eyes lit up with excitement.
“So you believe my sister and the others were murdered too?”
Jin Luoluo nodded.
“When coincidences happen often enough, they stop being coincidences. There’s no reasonable explanation for every princess consort dying in an accident. But if we’re going to investigate, we can’t focus solely on Yang Ruoyao. We also need to look into the people within the prince’s residence itself. To orchestrate a series of ‘accidents’ like this, someone close to the princess consorts must have been cooperating from the inside.”
“Jin Luoluo, will you work together with me?”
“Of course. First, if we can prove that that jinx isn’t actually cursed to kill his wives, it would greatly benefit me. Second, if someone this vicious truly exists, she certainly won’t spare me—the future sixth princess consort. I’d rather eliminate the danger before it reaches me. I’ll drag her into the light and make sure she receives the punishment she deserves.”
“That’s wonderful! Jin Luoluo, you’re such a good person!”
Muyun was overjoyed.
She knew Jin Luoluo was far more capable than she was.
With her help, there would surely be a way to uncover evidence.
The true, malicious face of that vixen would finally be exposed.
And perhaps, at long last, she could avenge her sister.
