At the mention of evidence, Muyun looked utterly dejected.

“I don’t have any. If I did, I would have reported her to the authorities long ago. How could I let her continue acting so arrogantly?”

Jin Luoluo could not help feeling disappointed.

After revealing such a shocking claim, it turned out to be nothing more than suspicion.

Perhaps Muyun simply could not accept her sister’s death and had therefore come to suspect Yang Ruoyao. That seemed far more likely.

“If you’re relying only on intuition, it’s difficult to convince anyone that she murdered the princess consorts.”

“I know none of you believe me. But I have a feeling—a strong one—that she killed my sister. She had free access to the prince’s residence long before all this happened, so she knew everything about the household. If she wanted to harm one of the princess consorts, it wouldn’t have been difficult at all. My sister drowned in the lake, and all the servants in the residence said that she accidentally slipped and fell in.”

As she recalled her sister’s death, tears welled up in Muyun’s eyes.

Although her second sister had been born to a concubine, she had loved and cared for Muyun since childhood. The two had been closer than many full sisters.

Her sister had been such a kind person.

Yet only a month after marrying into the prince’s residence, the terrible news arrived.

Muyun had not even seen her one last time.

“But my sister had feared water since she was a child. A fortune-teller even said that water was inauspicious for her, so she never went near ponds or lakes. Even when the palace hosted banquets on the water, she always refused to attend. The lotus pond in her own courtyard at the prince’s residence had been filled in because of this. Why would she suddenly go wandering by the lakeside for no reason? Someone must have pushed her in…”

Tears streamed down Muyun’s face as she spoke.

She became so overwhelmed with grief that she could barely continue.

Seeing this, Jin Luoluo felt a pang of sympathy.

She had never expected that such a carefree and straightforward girl could be so deeply affectionate and loyal.

It was a rare and admirable quality.

Jin Luoluo handed her a handkerchief.

“Alright, don’t cry. Your sister would surely be comforted knowing that you’ve never stopped searching for the truth behind her death. To be honest, after hearing your story, I also find it suspicious. Her death does seem strangely inexplicable. If it truly was murder, I absolutely won’t let the culprit go unpunished. But I’d like to hear about the others as well. Do you know how the remaining princess consorts died?”

Muyun wiped her tears and tried to recall everything she knew.

“The first princess consort was supposedly bitten by a venomous snake in the flower gardens of Chongyun Temple outside the city and died despite treatment.

The second was my sister.

The third princess consort was thrown from her horse when it suddenly went mad during an outing. She fractured her skull and died.”

She recounted the events little by little.

In truth, everything she knew came from what others had told her. She possessed no concrete clues or special information of her own.
