“But I saved the Prince! I saved the person with the greatest merits, so my contribution isn’t small either!” Jin Luoluo argued shamelessly.
“Hm, a life-saving favor is worth more than building a seven-story pagoda. Remember to ask the Seventeenth Prince for a reward—he ought to repay you properly.”
The Emperor’s meaning was perfectly clear: the person you saved wasn’t me, so if you want a reward, ask him for it. Don’t cling to me.
Jin Luoluo was furious. He was obviously toying with her.
The crafty gleam in the Emperor’s eyes and the amusement with which he looked at her made it obvious that he was deliberately having fun at her expense. After all this, he had summoned her merely to provide entertainment.
The reward itself was a small matter; her dignity was what truly mattered. No matter what, she couldn’t allow him to make a fool of her without striking back.
Raising her chin, Jin Luoluo declared, “I’ll certainly ask him for his reward, but I want yours as well.”
“That makes no sense. You neither killed any bandits nor contributed any strategies. If I reward you, wouldn’t I be breaking the rules?” The Emperor knitted his brows, putting on an expression of great difficulty.
“Your Majesty, that’s where you’re mistaken. Without the Prince, there would have been no victory this time. But without me, there wouldn’t have been a Prince to begin with. Therefore, half of the credit for this victory belongs to him, and the other half belongs to me. Even if mine isn’t direct merit, it’s certainly indirect merit. You can’t simply ignore my tremendous contribution.”
“Jin Luoluo, I truly fail to see where your contribution lies. I’ve heard that you saved the Seventeenth Prince only after the soldiers had already captured the bandits’ stronghold. That means he had already completed the mission. Even if you hadn’t saved him, the operation against the mountain bandits would still have succeeded. What does that have to do with you?”
The Emperor deliberately made things difficult for her, curious to see what other absurd arguments this peculiar girl could come up with. He had heard that even his sons had been completely wrapped around her finger, and as their father, he was determined to win back some dignity.
“That’s not right, Your Majesty—you can’t put it that way. I didn’t save the Prince as a personal act. I saved him from the standpoint of national duty and righteousness. Is the Prince’s value limited to a single campaign against mountain bandits?”
“In the future, the Prince will surely accomplish many great deeds for Your Majesty and establish tremendous achievements. And I am the one who saved him. If I hadn’t, where would all those future accomplishments come from? Therefore, my contribution carries profound historical significance. You should properly commend me for helping you preserve such an outstanding talent.”
Jin Luoluo spoke with dazzling eloquence, her words flowing as smoothly as a lotus blooming from her tongue.
