“Huh? Why isn’t my name there?” Jin Luoluo cried anxiously.
“Wait a moment, Master of Ceremonies. Did you accidentally skip a name? What about me?”
The official replied awkwardly, “Miss Jin, your name truly isn’t on the list.”
When drafting the imperial decree, the Emperor had specifically instructed that her name not be included. It was obvious that he intended to tease her.
Jin Luoluo was dumbfounded. What was going on? She had been summoned to the palace, yet there was no reward for her at all.
Then another thought occurred to her.
Perhaps the Emperor intended to reward her separately!
Her spirits immediately rose again.
“Your Majesty, where is my reward? Don’t keep me in suspense. Although I know my contributions were tremendous, I’m actually a very low-key person, so there’s really no need to prepare a special reward just for me.”
The officials seated around the hall secretly chuckled. This was the first time they had ever seen someone openly ask the Emperor for a reward like this.
Xiao Luo smiled faintly. Had she still not realized that his imperial brother was deliberately playing a prank on her? And she called herself low-key—if this counted as modesty, everyone else might as well have buried themselves underground.
“Jin Luoluo, there is no separate reward,” the old Emperor said, stroking his beard as a crafty gleam flickered in his eyes. “The distribution of rewards has already concluded, and there simply isn’t a share for you.”
Jin Luoluo widened her eyes and argued her case.
“No share for me? Then why did you summon me to the palace? Your Majesty, this is truly unfair. Letting me see the rewards without being able to receive one is a form of psychological torture! Besides, I made contributions—everyone witnessed it. How can you reward everyone else and leave me out of it?”
The Emperor asked, “How many bandits did you capture? How many did you kill?”
“I captured none and killed none. But that shouldn’t be the standard for handing out rewards! Charging into battle is physical labor; what I did was intellectual work from the rear. The two aren’t comparable. If that’s the criterion, then the Prince shouldn’t be rewarded either.”
Jin Luoluo shamelessly dragged Xiao Luo into the argument.
The Emperor shook his head.
“How can that be the same? He was the commander-in-chief. He directed the entire force in capturing the bandits’ stronghold and was the greatest contributor of all. What strategy did you provide?”
The very person who had invited her to the palace was now deliberately making things difficult for her. Clearly, the old Emperor wanted to have some fun at her expense.
Hmph. The old fox was truly devious.
But since she had already come, there was no way she would leave empty-handed. She was determined to gain something no matter what.
“But I saved the Prince!” Jin Luoluo declared shamelessly. “I saved the person with the greatest merit, so naturally my own contribution isn’t small either!”
