Jin Luoluo had just left the main hall when Xiao Che, full of pent-up resentment, stormed off as soon as he stepped outside. Xiao Luo, meanwhile, headed to the Ministry of War on official business.
Xiao Yu accompanied Jin Luoluo as they walked through the palace grounds. Jin Luoluo was in an exceptionally cheerful mood. She skipped happily through the imperial gardens, at one moment hopping onto rocks to play at balancing across them like a tightrope walker, and the next stopping to smell the fragrance of newly bloomed roses. She looked utterly content.
Watching her adorable figure darting among the flowers like a little fox, Xiao Yu unconsciously broke into a bright smile.
Simply accompanying her and watching her run about so joyfully felt surprisingly wonderful.
“Ahh~~”
A startled scream suddenly rang out from one of the garden paths, followed by a chaotic chorus of shrill female voices.
“Damn it! Where did this filthy mutt come from?”
The moment Xiao Yu heard the speaker’s voice, he recognized it as Consort Hui, who had recently been enjoying the Emperor’s favor and was also the mother of his second brother. He immediately hurried over.
The sight that greeted him nearly made him burst out laughing.
A food basin was upside down on Consort Hui’s head, while pastries were plastered all over her hair and face. She looked utterly ridiculous.
“Your Highness, that’s certainly a unique look. If Father Emperor saw you like this, he’d surely be delighted,” Xiao Yu remarked. Naturally, he had little affection for his own mother’s rival.
Only then did Consort Hui seem to realize what had happened. Grabbing the dish from her face, she hurled it to the ground, where it shattered into countless porcelain shards.
Then she fixed her furious gaze on the dumbfounded Jin Luoluo and swung her hand toward her face.
“You blind little mongrel! How dare you offend me!”
Jin Luoluo had originally been chasing after a green-and-gold swallowtail butterfly. Not paying attention, she had suddenly rushed out from the flower bushes.
At that exact moment, Consort Hui happened to be passing by carrying a tray of pastries. Jin Luoluo had immediately slammed on the brakes and hadn’t even bumped into her. Somehow, however, the woman had startled herself and flung the basin backward, ending up dumping it over her own head.
At first, Jin Luoluo had genuinely felt apologetic. After all, this comical appearance had been caused because of her, so she repeatedly apologized.
Who would have thought that the consort would immediately start calling her a “mongrel” and “filthy mutt,” and even dare to slap her? Even Buddha would lose his temper under such circumstances, much less someone like Jin Luoluo, who had never tolerated being bullied.
So when Consort Hui’s hand came swinging toward her, Jin Luoluo swiftly dodged aside.
Consort Hui had put considerable force behind that slap. Normally, no one would ever dare evade her.
Caught off guard when Jin Luoluo moved out of the way, Consort Hui immediately stumbled forward.
