It was a dark night with a strong wind—the perfect night for murder, the hour when the King of Hell came to claim lives.
In a heavily fortified mansion somewhere in Tianyi City, cups clinked, laughter rang out, and dancers swayed gracefully.
At the head of the hall sat a burly man with one arm wrapped around a dancer’s slender waist. He buried his face against her neck, inhaling deeply, drawing peals of coquettish laughter from the woman.
Below him, the others either drank and reveled or boasted loudly.
“I’ve got to say, Boss is amazing. If one plan fails, he simply comes up with another. I refuse to believe those damned doctors from Divine Physician Valley can keep handling everything perfectly every single time.”
A wretched-looking man below raised his wine cup while teasing a dancer beside him, all the while flattering the burly man above.
“Old Wolf, now that’s well said.”
“The bunch of hypocritical doctors from Divine Physician Valley? Sooner or later I’ll skin every last one of them and turn them into my medicine puppets.”
The speaker was an obese man whose body was practically all fat. His eyes were nearly invisible within the folds of his face.
Hearing their words, the burly man laughed.
“Don’t worry. You’ll all get your share of the benefits.”
“Follow me, and you’ll drink deeply and feast on meat. Divine Physician Valley? Divine physicians? They’ll all become history. Only our Heavenly Poison Sect deserves to be the sole overlord of Tianyi City.”
“Everyone, eat well, drink well—let the music continue and the dancing go on!”
The man’s voice was thunderous. Even through a wall, Lu Wu heard every word clearly.
She lightly nudged Jiang Yunhe beside her.
“So what’s going on here?”
After finishing her stall business that day, Jiang Yunhe had dragged her away, saying they would be doing a good deed for the benefit of the nation and the people that night.
As such an upright and righteous person, Lu Wu naturally came along to help.
Who could have expected that Jiang Yunhe would lead them into this estate in the dead of night?
No sooner had they arrived than they heard the people inside spouting their nonsense.
Heavenly Poison Sect? More like Heavenly Annoyance Sect.
“Oh? So Divine Physician Valley is about to go bankrupt?” Qin Zhan chuckled and teased Jiang Yunhe. “For the sake of our many years of friendship, come join the Holy Sword Sect when that happens. I’ll take you in.”
“Our Dragon Palace can take you in too.”
Long Zhang spoke with complete sincerity.
They were brothers, after all. No need to be formal.
Only the four of them had come tonight to uphold justice. Zhang Yue and Shan Hanzhi had gone shopping together instead.
Jiang Yunhe felt Long Zhang’s goodwill was entirely unnecessary.
Ignoring Qin Zhan’s mocking expression, he explained to Lu Wu:
“The Heavenly Poison Sect appeared in Tianyi City several decades ago. They’re all poison users. Many of them are bandits and practitioners of evil arts who have harmed countless people. Their poisons are particularly vicious. Eventually, the City Lord sought help from Divine Physician Valley.”
“Divine Physician Valley developed a batch of antidotes specifically targeting the Heavenly Poison Sect and dismantled the organization.”
“Unfortunately, the person handling the matter back then was too lenient. Quite a few escaped.”
“These people are the remnants from that time.”
The Heavenly Poison Sect had nearly been wiped out, but they blamed their defeat entirely on Divine Physician Valley, believing the valley had deliberately targeted them.
Afterward, they hid in the shadows and continued causing trouble.
Unfortunately, their poison techniques were no match for Divine Physician Valley, so they resorted to dirty tricks, determined to ruin the valley’s reputation.
The recent incident involving the old man’s false accusation had originated from exactly this conflict.
“That doesn’t add up. These people are like rats—you can never catch them. How did you manage to locate them so precisely this time?”
Qin Zhan looked skeptical.
After rubbing his chin, realization dawned on him.
“You did it on purpose?”
“Mhm.”
Jiang Yunhe nodded.
Divine Physician Valley couldn’t be bothered with petty disturbances, but these people clung to them like stubborn adhesive. It was becoming increasingly irritating.
This time, they simply baited the hook, lured the fish out into the open, and planned to wipe them all out in one sweep.
The three men inside were the core leaders of the Heavenly Poison Sect.
“Tsk. So you’re using us as free labor. Remember to pay appearance fees afterward.”
Qin Zhan rubbed his hands together, eager for action.
“No need.”
Jiang Yunhe stopped him.
“For something like this, none of us need to act.”
“Boss Lu alone is enough.”
“Huh?”
Lu Wu almost believed him for a second.
Since when had she become that amazing?
Her cultivation might have advanced rapidly, but she was fundamentally support personnel. Fighting was definitely not her specialty.
The highly anticipated Lu Wu could only say:
Sorry. I’ve disappointed you.
“Just watch.”
Jiang Yunhe gestured toward the room.
At that moment, servants were bringing in fresh food and wine. The table was piled high with fish and meat.
The three men ate enthusiastically.
The burly man casually picked up a chunk of meat. After a few bites, he realized it was surprisingly delicious.
“Boss, your cook’s skills have improved. This braised pork is incredible.”
Old Wolf below him had noticed it too and immediately praised the dish.
Meanwhile, the fat man stuffed the glossy red meat into his mouth with both hands, completely unconcerned about the grease covering him.
“Not bad.”
The burly man nodded with a smile and ate several more pieces.
Then he casually asked:
“By the way, Old Wolf, how did that job you took last time turn out?”
Old Wolf’s eyes flickered.
The boss was referring to a job from half a month ago.
A cultist had approached him to purchase poisons. It had been a massive order worth over a hundred thousand spirit stones, earning him a fortune.
According to Heavenly Poison Sect rules, members could accept private jobs, but fifty percent of the profits had to be handed over to fund the sect’s operations.
After all, bringing down a giant like Divine Physician Valley required manpower, resources, and money. Empty words alone wouldn’t accomplish anything.
[It’s done. The total was eighty thousand spirit stones. I’ve already placed forty thousand in the sect treasury.]
That was the lie Old Wolf intended to tell.
But to his shock, his mouth produced something entirely different.
“I worked my ass off to finish that job. Why should I hand over half the profits? Sooner or later I’m taking those spirit stones back anyway. It’s not like Boss would ever know.”
The words flowed out with astonishing smoothness.
The moment he finished speaking, Old Wolf froze.
The burly man froze.
The fat man’s chunk of meat slipped from his hands.
He stared blankly at Old Wolf as though looking at a fearless hero.
To be fair, he also thought handing over fifty percent was outrageous. He skimmed money from his private jobs every time.
But he definitely didn’t have the guts to say it aloud.
“Old Wolf…”
The burly man shoved the woman from his lap aside and slammed his wine cup onto the table.
Cracks immediately spread across the solid wooden surface.
“Can you explain what exactly you mean by that?”
[Ahem… Boss, I’ve had too much to drink and started talking nonsense. The money I kept was meant to prepare a grand gift for you.]
Old Wolf desperately tried to explain.
Unfortunately, his mouth refused to cooperate.
What he thought and what he said had become completely disconnected.
“What do I mean? I mean exactly what I said.”
“I earn that money risking my life outside. Why the hell should I share it with you? Just because I call you Boss doesn’t mean you’re actually some great figure.”
“Every day it’s ‘destroy Divine Physician Valley, destroy Divine Physician Valley.’ Then go do it already!”
“Instead you’re hiding here making petty trouble like some rat that can’t show its face. Forget them—even I look down on you.”
“To hell with you!”
