“Then what about her?” Madam Wang still felt heartache seeing how thin and small her younger daughter was.
But when she turned her head and saw Wang Nuannuan’s tears falling in streams, she couldn’t bear to say anything more.
“It’s nothing serious. Just change her diet a bit, take walks and move around in the courtyard morning and evening. It’s best not to drink alcohol. At her age, her menses will come soon—when that happens, she’ll really suffer.”
Wang Nuannuan looked at Jiu Yue with gratitude. Jiu Yue’s lips twitched—she hadn’t expected that look at all. What did that expression even mean?
Madam Wang’s face darkened. “What exactly are you doing every night instead of sleeping in your room? And all those things you’ve been eating—who prepared them for you? You’re only twelve, yet you drink alcohol every single day?”
A whole string of scolding followed, and Madam Wang’s expression grew worse and worse.
Jiu Yue kept her mouth shut and didn’t get involved.
Ji Yiqing sat beside Jiu Yue and noticed that although her face looked cold, her ears were practically perked up—she was listening with great enjoyment. Turns out she really liked watching drama.
Wang Nuannuan, however, clearly couldn’t take it anymore. She suddenly stood up. “You never cared about me before, so why are you controlling me now? In your hearts, there’s only my brother, only Nanny Wang! She’s the only one who truly cares about me. She finds me storybooks, makes tasty food for me on purpose, talks with me in my room…”
Jiu Yue raised an eyebrow. Oh? Another big drama?
That so-called Nanny Wang—this was clearly indulgence disguised as care.
Madam Wang hadn’t expected Wang Nuannuan to say this either. But after thinking it over, she realized something was wrong. Wang Nuannuan’s health had been getting worse these past two years.
Wang Jinnian too—but one was on the verge of death, while the other just had minor illnesses. Madam Wang inevitably showed favoritism, but she had always cared about her daughter as well.
“I don’t care about you? I check on you every night. Every day I specially make one dish just for you. Every now and then I make clothes for you…”
Wang Nuannuan stared at Madam Wang blankly. “Wasn’t… wasn’t it Nanny Wang who did all that?”
Master Wang slammed the table hard. What was there left not to understand?
That Nanny Wang had been flattering the daughter while sowing discord at the same time.
Madam Wang couldn’t bring herself to say harsh words—after all, she was only a twelve-year-old girl. She pulled Wang Nuannuan into her arms. “How could Mother not love you? Your brother is so seriously ill, so I naturally had to put more energy into him. But I’ve never neglected you either. Why didn’t you tell Mother when you felt wronged?”
Wang Nuannuan burst into loud sobs. “Nanny Wang said you favored Brother. She said Brother was going to die and told me not to bother you with trivial matters. She said if I felt upset and had no one to talk to, I could talk to her.”
“That old hag!” Master Wang roared.
Then he turned to Steward Wang. “Lock up all the servants in the young lady’s courtyard. Once Jinnian’s situation is dealt with, I’ll deal with them one by one. These treacherous servants who betray their master.”
There was no way Nanny Wang alone could have pulled this off—clearly the whole courtyard had long been colluding together.
Madam Wang added coldly, “I’m afraid it’s not just the servants from Nuannuan’s courtyard.”
As they spoke, Steward Wang had already carried out the arrangements.
It was getting late. According to what Jiu Yue had said, Wang Jinnian would only last until tonight.
So Madam Wang and Master Wang didn’t dare waste even a moment and immediately had Jiu Yue begin treatment.
Jiu Yue was so hot she was getting irritable. “Move the braziers out, and open all the windows and doors. There’s not a bit of fresh air in here—no ventilation at all. Is that good for a patient?”
The servants hurriedly sprang into action.
Jiu Yue actually wanted to eat first before treating him, but this wasn’t the time to say such a thing, so she could only let it go.
There was no assistant by her side.
Madam Wang, Master Wang, and even Wang Nuannuan didn’t leave—they all stood by watching. Jiu Yue couldn’t be bothered to care. Watch if you want.
“Boil the medicine and mix it into the bathwater. Later, your young master has to soak for at least an hour. During that time, the water can’t get too cold or too hot, so someone must keep boiling the medicine continuously.”
Steward Wang quickly agreed.
Jiu Yue jerked her chin at Ji Yiqing. “Strip off his upper clothes.”
Ji Yiqing froze. “This… men and women shouldn’t have physical contact. This doesn’t seem appropriate…”
Jiu Yue was speechless. “What are you thinking? I’m a doctor. I need to use acupuncture, alright?”
Seeing that Jiu Yue left no room for argument, Ji Yiqing said no more.
He was afraid of upsetting this young lady again—she seemed especially to dislike being questioned.
Jiu Yue’s hands didn’t stop moving. “By the way, shouldn’t you send someone back to let your family know?”
So the Ji family wouldn’t think she couldn’t return and start stirring up trouble.
She hated cleaning up messes.
Ji Yiqing paused in the middle of undressing and caught the implication in her words. “Alright.”
Once he finished undressing, Ji Yiqing felt no discomfort at all.
He had already noticed it that morning—when Jiu Yue touched him.
She clearly favored his firm muscles; she didn’t just touch them, she even pinched them.
This Wang Jinnian, though a young master, had been sick all year round.
Skin stretched over bones with only a thin layer of flesh—no aesthetic appeal whatsoever.
Steward Wang tactfully said he would send someone to Ji Village to inform them. Jiu Yue felt reassured and took out the small knife she had used earlier to intimidate Ji Dahuo.
Seeing the knife in Jiu Yue’s hand, Ji Yiqing’s gaze burned.
The material and design of the blade were unheard of, unseen before.
Yet that small knife was frighteningly sharp, faintly glinting with cold light.
What Jiu Yue held was actually a modified scalpel.
She had altered it to be easier to carry in her combat suit—and, of course, more convenient for killing. Thinner and longer.
Truly a blade that could cut iron like mud, a deadly weapon.
Madam Wang and Master Wang stood not far from Jiu Yue.
Seeing the knife in her hand startled them badly.
The next moment, they saw Jiu Yue grab the knife and slash straight toward Wang Jinnian’s neck.
Madam Wang screamed and her legs went weak. Jiu Yue immediately twisted her head around. “Make another sound and get out!”
As she spoke, the blade had already cut a small gash just below Wang Jinnian’s Adam’s apple.
Jiu Yue had washed her hands with strong liquor beforehand.
The environment here was what it was—far from sterile.
But since this was just detoxification, the incision didn’t need to be large—less than a centimeter long.
Blood flowed out instantly, though not much.
Then Jiu Yue threw off the quilt, silver needles flashing nonstop in her hands.
In less than half a quarter-hour, Wang Jinnian had been turned into a hedgehog.
After the needles were placed, the small knife in Jiu Yue’s hand moved again.
She made tiny cuts at Wang Jinnian’s ankles, wrists, fingertips, tongue tip, and several other places.
Finally, the last needle was driven straight into the center of Wang Jinnian’s chest.
As that final silver needle went in, everyone noticed that the bright red blood that had flowed earlier had now turned black.
Jiu Yue stood up and rolled her neck. “Alright. In a moment, we’ll stop the bleeding and remove the needles.”
As the black blood seeped onto the bed, an indescribable smell gradually filled the room.
It wasn’t exactly foul, but it was unpleasant enough to make people uncomfortable.
Jiu Yue rummaged through the materials Steward Wang had brought.
Then she found something that looked like a tree root and stuffed it straight into Ji Yiqing’s mouth.
